Post-split fixtures

132

With the Premiership top six now confirmed, the league is expected to announce post-split fixtures this week.  As we predicted on 5 March, this should see Falkirk and Hibernian both play 20 home and 18 away games, while Hearts, Newco, Celtic and Motherwell have 19 home and away.

The only solution I see as workable would have Celtic home to Hearts, Newco and Falkirk (for a third time in the league this season and a fourth time overall), and away to Motherwell and Hibs.  Hearts will have Newco and Motherwell at Tynecastle, with away games at Celtic, Hibs and on Falkirk’s plastic.

Newco will have the inverse of Celtic’s fixtures: home to Motherwell and Hibs, away at Celtic, Hearts and Falkirk (also for a third time, including a visit there in five days).Martin O’Neill, Danny Rohl and Derek McInnes will all look at these fixtures and tell their squads they can come out on top.

Trivia: If Celtic are home to Falkirk after the break, that will be six of the last seven meetings between these sides at Celtic Park.

    Genuine question here:-

How certain are we that the GB are back in for the run-in?

They are far from perfect but, for me , the lift it could give the whole place , esp the players of course, if the GB and the club can patch up their differences for the rest of the season could be game-changing, in every sense.

  5. Have we got so used to the GB providing the atmosphere that we, as a full support, are no longer capable of giving the players that extra boost that a truly supportive support can offer.

    Hmm…

    Exhibit A:

Trump on Iran: “A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again.”

The threat came one day after Trump said the US would destroy “every bridge” and power station in Iran if a deal isn’t reached.

The latest rhetoric raised new questions about whether Trump’s threat – if carried out – would target civilians and non-military infrastructure and constitute a war crime. Trump on Monday said he wasn’t concerned that it would.

After a period of protest and civil unrest would things have returned to some kind of normal? We know in Washington the arms industry is all powerful and hungry for war but this buffoon has removed whatever rules of diplomacy used to be followed. He doesn’t even pay lip service to it. I cannot think of anyone who has so little disregard for the future of the world than this egomaniac.

    Hmm…

    It’s a fair point.

My own view , FWIW , is twofold:-

    1. Even the reduction in the number of fans in the ground must have an effect. If the GB were replaced by “ordinary” fans then that would be far better than the audible and visible gap created by the absence of the GB and

    2. Even the appearance/ illusion of unity, even if we all know it might be temporary pending a full resolution, one way or another , over the summer can’t be a bad thing in lifting the whole stadium/ team. The absence of a sense of unity of purpose is , I think , having at least a bit of effect on the stadium overall.

  14. Earlier there was a closely argued and adult discussion between TBB and Hot Smoked on the quality of this season’s Celtic. Certainly, it would appear that the manager’s team selection is more limited than was the case last season.

But this year, there has been an added factor – atrocious bad luck. For almost every game this season at least three first-pick players have been unavailable. Add to that four short term managerial appointments. These must have damaged team cohesion especially when one of those appointments was an abject failure.

We have also drawn or lost games where we were in a position to win. The Trusty dismissals at Tynecastle and against Hibs cost Celtic five points. Both dismissals relied on very dubious interpretations of the rules.

While I don’t believe that we are seeing is vintage Celtic, MON is getting a tune out of them and they are as likely to win this title as either of their rivals.

Hearts at home is a potential nightmare scenario. We might need to win to get 2nd and a champions league place. But winning could hand the other lot the title.

  23. Re the fixtures….the Motherwell game is the one I’m most scared of.

That will be their night of fame, players playing for moves and playing for 4th place which would be a chunk of money for the players and the club.

To be fair, they deserve a strong end to the season.

Beating St Mirren this week would put crazy pressure on the 2 huns so that’s where every bit of energy should be focused.

    Supporter Update

The Club is pleased to confirm that a route has been found to lift the suspension of the Green Brigade with effect from Saturday’s game against St Mirren.

On March 27th, at a meeting of Glasgow City Council Safety Advisory Group, the Club again addressed the suspension on the Green Brigade. The SAG confirmed that it did not object to the suspension being lifted, subject to three conditions being satisfied.

These were that all applicable policies will be adhered to, including season ticket terms and conditions; agreement that members will comply with the safety and security operations; recognition that a match-by-match report will be submitted to the Safety Advisory Group, for as long as they deem it necessary.

We communicated this to the Green Brigade and asked for their unconditional acceptance. They have today responded positively by accepting these conditions, as outlined.

Celtic interim chairman, Brian Wilson, said: “I am pleased we have reached this point where suspensions can be lifted with the agreement of Glasgow City Council Safety Advisory Group on terms which apply to supporters throughout the stadium.

“On that basis, a full and united Celtic Park can get behind the team at this crucial point in the season”.
