Postecoglou subs shut door on challenger hopes

161

Analysing Celtic performances has become more complicated recently.  The first half in Dingwall saw the visitors create enough chances to be four goals ahead; Kyogo, alone, scored, hit the crossbar and had the easiest chance of the game saved.  After the break, Malky Mackay tightened the middle of the park to such an extent that Celtic spent 20 minutes in a battle of attrition with Ross County until three substitutions sorted things out.  The outcome was never in any serious doubt, but it took a goal from Jota in the closing minutes to confirm the points were heading back to Glasgow.

As you well know, we are at the stage of the season when the value of a SWOT analysis is less important than immediate outcomes.  A week after their first domestic defeat since September, Celtic wanted to shut the door on whatever hopes their immediate challengers had on narrowing the gap at the top.

Ross County had not lost at home since Celtic travelled there last year, the game presented a credible threat to Ange Postecoglou’s plans, but the manager was able to drop a gear when required and motor ahead.  Any serious doubts on where the title is going this season were surely extinguished with Jota’s clincher.

The movement, ability to float in the air and finish Kyogo showed at his goal reminded a few of us of a player we used to watch.  Whatever his comparative merits, he is undoubtedly a talent to be cherished.

  1. Political allegiance decisions can be funny things.

The North Carolina Republican Congressman, Madison Cawthorn, is a 26 year old who many endorsed and voted for despite his tweeting that a visit to Hitler’s Eagle Nest was a “bucket list” wish fulfilment. This born again Christian has lost some of that support recently because pictures emerged of him dressed in female lingerie at a party. For some of his supporters this was more reprehensible than a dubious fascination with Adolf (and some pretty ropy beliefs about a stolen election and a White Slave Trade).

In this country, you can get “Unionist” with its NI overtones , Butcher’s Apron supporter, and Red Tory if you do not vote for an Independence Party. And you can get “Stupid” or “Uncle Tim” or “Tartan Tory” if you do loan your vote to the SNP.

Now, I doubt that any Celtic supporter of a non-separatist party has ever cavorted or fetishised the Union Flag- certainly all the forefathers of the Yes voters who voted Labour in their droves, would find that offensive. And Ia also doubt that there is any difference in IQ level or propensity for anti-Catholic feeling in the group that favours the SNP, even as a temporary vehicle.

So, most of this stuff- whether it be “BritNat/Unionist/UnionJackist” or whether it’s “Cult Follower/ Uncle Tim/ Faith Traitor” jibes or vermin of any sort, these are just jibes generating more heat than light.

Of course, there may be other aspects of personalities that draws such responses but surely it cannot be just the party vote that justifies it.

Director was taking a liberty there. Or more likely poetic license.

Still, with a name like Sean Aloysius O’Fearna

Abada has been amazing this year but slightly under the radar for appreciation ( a bit like the Ayrshire Superstar when he was younger)

  5. VERY short input from me on constitutions, flags , countries etc.

Scotland and England are countries who agreed to a political union for mutual benefit (rightly or wrongly)

For me, patriotism stays with the original country; in my case, Scotland. The emotions in sporting events and flag waving are therefore a given

The UK, as a political union is therefore a bureaucratic set up which I am happy to support and believe is beneficial to Scotland

I struggle to get emotional about such a set up and sing GSTQ would be like me singing the EU anthem (i believe there is one)

I follow team GB in all sports because I can but the same emotion is not there (hence the Alan Wells , curling , Andy Murray, David Wilkie focus)

I lived in England for years and the above is not the same in a lot of areas where the English emotion has been funnelled into the UK and Union Flag. Euro 96 changed that in football and I fully supported my English friends in becoming more English and less British (as it isn’t a culture in itself)

The take over of UK emblems by far right organisations and the same with the Scottish emblems by separatists is unfortunate

    ——

A balanced, interesting, informative & erudite offering.

Prior to the poison spouted by the SNPcult over the last fifteen years, it was perfectly acceptable to have a Scottish/UK identity in Scotland – these days one is spat on, actually and metaphorically, when espousing such a view.

Everything Scotland, including the flag. has been hoovered-up and used as a propaganda tool by the SNP. The SNP are not Scotland, and as was shown in 2014, firmly in the minority with their views of independence.

The Neanderthals from Ibrox follow a similar route, except they hoover up all things UK, also including the flag, and use it for their own propaganda & jingoistic purposes. These people are not the UK, they like the SNP are a minority grouping, infinitesimal in numbers and influence in the UK as a whole.

Two movements using the same methodology to ram home their dogma.
