Power behind the throne

303

Agreeing on important topics, like wages, seems a straightforward business for some. You wonder if agreeing compensation is more of a challenge.

Celtic and confirmed prime target Brendan Rodgers have lots to discuss, not least who will make it into his backroom team.  Chris Davies was considered the power behind the throne when they were both I’m Glasgow before.

Chris was the technician, Brendan’s main sounding board and tactical resource. At 38, after 13 years as a Rodgers protégé, he will have options of a manager’s of his own.  I respect Chris greatly but wonder if Brendan needs a fresh pair of eyes after do many years.

    Love a close season CQN

    Even better with no manager

Even betterer with the rat jumping back onto the ship lol

In my defence, if/when the rat does come back, I will back him to the hilt as I have done with all Celtic managers

Until then, I and whomever else fancies it – it’s fair game

If Pastor Jack Glass took a weans’ fitba team, would he be a fundamentalist coach?

  3. I think I’m coming to terms with – I’m fickle as ever. I’d much rather BR was returning to my team than Beale – what a gulf. So jump in Brendan. Btw, Kent has gone to fenerbache – that’s a great outcome for him – I never rated him.

Don’t recall any comments made by Gordon McQueen about Paul Elliott.

I remember vividly his comments about Aiden McGeady.

IMHO they were the product of aggression, ignorance and stupidity.

    Probably…:)

  7. Nice to see the system still works even without a manager in place.

    Welcome Odin.

I’m having flashbacks to Kirk Douglas and Tony Curtis in the Vikings.

Will he improve us as a team

    Yes, without doubt

Am I allowed to air my grievances until he becomes manager???

    Defo

  14. Hypothetical question (as he’s not confirmed)

Do people think he would be coming if we weren’t assured of champions league?

    Just wondering this myself. :)

    Dunno mate

But we have champions league football

And as I have said before

If he is a success, he will leave in around 2 years (as our last 2 successful hunskelpers/treble winners have)

If not they will get sacked and replaced

I only hope they go to the epl

    But maybe not mid season……

  16. he is only coming as the Chamions League will give him the platform to go manage in Spain next,

    No.

Scottish football alone cannot satisfy an ambitious manager, but European football, especially the CL can.

  20. Bhoy From The Boyne on

Couple of other bits from Spiers podcast yesterday.

Harry Brady – People close to Rodgers are very surprised he is coming back now. Says there was only a 1% chance of Rodgers returning when Celtic first approached him but DD is a very persuasive person. Rodgers is a conceited person and is coming back because he has reassurances within Celtic that they want to move up the club up the next level in Europe. Thinks BR in any other circumstances would be considered an excellent appointment by all given his EPL record.

Paul67 on Feb 2019 events. Just about everyone at the club thought the time was right for him to move on at that point. Surprised about the amount of fans who are willing to forget and take BR back given how things ended last time. References the fickle nature of football fans. Thinks BR’s return has as much to do with where he finds himself at this juncture in his career and reckons the Celtic profile is best for his profile right now given he has been and sacked by Leicester and Liverpool in his previous stints down south.

  21. Bhoy From The Boyne on

Another point made by Paul67 on the podcast.

He says (and I am paraphrasing here) that everything created by Ange in terms of structure during his 2 years at the club was done in the best interests of Celtic football club while same cannot be said about Rodgers.

  22. Out of interest, and balance, what has Ange created at the club that will remain beyond his departure?

Didn’t the Asian deals involve his big agent mate, who left with him?

Weights moved into the big room at Lennoxtown?

Mark Lawell an Ange thing? Really?

As I said earlier, Ange = good, Brendan = bad seems to be the narrative. Could be a tiresome season on CQN.

No angels in professional football’s managerial game. More fool us for hiring single points of failure in our structure.

I hope Celtic continue with the B team playing in the Lowland League. The logistics are awkward with cancelled games to fit in our Euro Youth League fixtures meaning we fall six or eight games played behind the other teams. Stick to the original dates as much as possible, we’ve plenty teenagers.

Matthew Anderson has always played in advance of his years. My opinion is Brendan can work his magic to bring him into the big squad before next season’s end.

  24. I could be wrong of course, but with all the meetings and interviews with Brenda, why has his name not been announced????

I reckon a vit of a shocker to be announced.
