Practice penalties, de Vries

472

And then the lights came back on.

You and I have discussed this before, but one week from tomorrow Celtic could be in involved in a +£20m penalty kick competition. Between now and then I’d have the players take 100 each. Preparation is everything and there’s no amount of preparation for penalties next week which will be too much.

You have to suspect that it’s too soon for Brendan Rodgers to throw new keeper, Dorus de Vries, into such a critical game, without a proper opportunity to work with his defenders, or be assessed by Stevie Woods.

After the Aberdeen game later this month we have a two week international break, where de Vries will be able to work with the coaching staff for an extended period, but that precedes the group stages of European competition, so I’m not sure when the new keeper will get a first team break.

  1. Just listened to the end of lenny’s interview on RS.

Disappointed in his answer re mc fly bassa’s comment in his ear.

It irked him so that’s it.

    Meanwhile……

    Estimation readjustment.

  2. The latest edition of World Soccer Magazine has a very accurate portrayal of the death of Rangers and the creation of the new club.

Accurate enough to cause social unrest actually. They clearly haven’t sought the views of Reagan or Doncaster.

  3. How to practise penalties

    1. Find the best pen for you

    2. Every player takes only one pen a day at the end of training (because that’s how they come up usually).

    3. The player always takes the same pen each time.

    4. The keeper is told where it is being aimed at unless it’s down the middle.

Over time the player should be perfecting the best pen on a one only basis.

Don’t hold your daughter back from making the move, I bottled out of it years ago and it’s my biggest regret.

I’ve told my kids to see the world and hopefully they do.

Like Auld Tam, you can always come back.

    Auld Tam…

Always liked your posts and got BMCW to clarify that you were the who I thought were weeks ago. Glad You have settled home again and I’ll catch you for a beer during the season. HH

Always thought Thomson was poor, then again, they’re all poor. But his performance over two games at Ibrox convinced me there was an added ingredient to his incompetence. In one of those games Maloney was denied two clear penalties and Wilson a third. The other Ibrox game was marred throughout by calculated Rangers thuggery with McCoist cheering from the sidelines.

  7. Dexter says HAVE WE ALL FORGOTTEN ABOUT THE LIVING WAGE AT CELTIC PARK??? on

I have managed to get a partial transcript of a recording of the Sevco phone call to Preston regarding the possible signing of the 6 goals in 44 matches machine, Joe Garner. We only have the Sevco end of the conversation:

    RING RING. RING RING

Hi, it’s The Rangers Finance Director here.  I was lookin to speak to my counterpart there about possibly signing one of your players?

    Yes, I can hold.

Rangers, you know, from Glasgow.  The mighty Teddy Bears!

    ….

No, no.  We kept the history you see.

I don’t know, you’d better ask Charles Green.

    Apparently that’s an ecumenical matter.

Aye, well we like to still call ourselves Rangers.

    The manager? It’s Mark Warburton.

    You do know him, ‘Warbo’.

    W-A-R-B-U-R-T-O-N.

    Aye, I can hold again.

Yes, Its the Rangers Finance Director.  I was hoping to speak to someone about signing Joe Garner.

    Glasgow Rangers

I think I’ve already been over this with your deputy, but we kept the history.

    Well, apparently you can.

No, not Gardener.  Joe GARNER.  He’s a striker you have there.

    Are you laughing?

Aye, well we would really love to sign Joe.

Well how much would you be looking?

Sorry, it might be a bad line here.  Did you say “million”?!

    Oh… right…ahem…

Oh, instalments ARE a possibility?  Great.  Would you want them weekly or monthly?

Every six months? That sounds great!

    Only two?

But thats like 900 actual grand each!

Could we possibly negotiate on that timeframe?

Well I was thinking, on a goodwill basis, mano a mano, so to speak, we could agree that we will pay you.

Do you need any specific dates?

And would that be by cash or cheque?

I see.  Well, hypothetically speaking, if there were unforseen cashflow issues this end,  could we extend that proposed 1 year timetable?

    Well, maybe 20 to 30?

    No, years.

    Hello?

    Oh, you dropped the phone.

Yes, 20-30 years.  As a goodwill thing.  Football club to football club.

I do appreciate that, but the chances of another liquidation in the next 20-30 months, sorry years, really is quite remote.

    Yes, we did say that.

    Yes we were wrong.

Would you be interested in any of our lads, by any chance?

Any of them, to be honest.

Well the manager did indicate that, yes.  But I think the media slightly misinterpreted him.

I suppose you could argue that, yes.

Sometimes you’ve got to downsize to upsize.

It’s a wee saying we have here.

Speculate to accumulate?  Aye, that too, I suppose.

Well we are looking to build a team around Gardener.

    Oh, Garner, yes.  Of course.

    …

Well, we do have an excellent academy.

    Murray Park.

No, no, no. It’s not a car park.  Last I checked.

Well, we have had many success stories from the academy

    ..

    Right now?

Off the top of my head… oh, I know his name…I can picture him… blue tracksuit… just cant think of it right now…

Maybe I could email the details to you?

Aye.  Great.  So, to sum up, in principle, you would consider instalments.

I will obviously come back to you to see if we can narrow that wee issue.  But to be clear from my end, 20-30 years is not on the table?

There’s really no need for that sort of crude language

In principle too, you actually would want actual real money.

Also, In principle, you don’t want any of our players.

Again, I’m not sure that sort of language is helpful.

So, will I call you then?

Actually, you wouldn’t mind calling us?

Hold on, there’s the pips.  The money’s about to run out

    Hello? Hello?

okay .. just for fun, I”ve decided to start a rumor and see if it will gain any traction … the midfielder that JFH was talking about is none other than Yaya Toure … who has been left off City’s CL list …. so, adding 2 and 2 together, and I get Yaya on loan to Celtic …

lets see how long it takes to make it into the Daily Ranger …

Absolutely ,and if we are nearing the split with Sevco borderline to make top 6, those mid table clubs around them will have to do the same.

Going by BR’s interview after the Milan game I wouldn’t be surprised if he gives De Vries the jersey right away, only two players he regretted loosing in his career as manager and De Vries was the first.

I would argue that having that mob in the league will make our final points difference greater than last year from the racing pack. The sheep and hertz will not be allowed four straight victories against them.

Good connection with Brendan, doesn’t like USA, needs coaching badges for management in UK

5 years older than Scott Brown, 2 years older than Joey B, done much more than both put together

Could he add experience and dig to midfield?

    I don;t know
