Predicted and predictable capitulation

261

The point was made to me by one Celtic fan before kick-off, “We are like a group of accused arriving at court with a suitcase packed.  Every one of us expecting to go down.”  Again, Celtic dominated the opening half against a poor looking Scottish Premiership side, again, the opposition manager spotted the fix at halftime and went home with the points.  Individual errors at throw-ins did cost the goals, but there’s a reason we were susceptible when individual errors happened – this is the most fragile Celtic I have seen in a long time watching my team.  The system is not sufficiently robust to cope when errors are made.  The system is at fault.

Confidence is king.  When the equalising goal went in, you could see Celtic shoulders shrink.  Inspiring confidence and resilience in your players is part of the job, it cannot be left unattended.  We have no confidence or resilience.  Evidence of faith in their leader, is not visible from the players.

Changing a game when things are going wrong is also part of the job.  We repeatedly meet opposition managers able to do this.  We change things, but the last time Celtic made a change which positively impacted the outcome was the League Cup semifinal.  Substitutions yesterday and on Tuesday are unfathomable.  Did the midfield simply slide one along?  Was Ralston playing as a conventional central defender?  Who knows, certainly not the players, by the look of it.

As I predicted a week ago, Celtic’s then status as Premiership favourites would quickly vanish.  Hearts are now top tip at the bookies.  Celtic are second favourites; keep an eye on that lofty position.

We are two points ahead of Motherwell with a game in hand, that’s less of a gap than has opened up between us and Hearts this week.  Motherwell have the momentum on Celtic, a top three finish is in no way certain.

Comparisons have been made with Ange Postecoglou, who lost his first three away games before new recruits arrived and changed history.  Ange inherited a losing team and was unfortunate to leave Tynecastle and Ibrox empty handed.  Eight games ago, Celtic were far from the finished article, but they were a winning side, able to get results over the line.

We will talk about the self-owning pre-match presser tomorrow.

  1. Tictastic- Tisdale will go with him making the Board trying to be blameless,we have sneaked in their latest heat shield, a scout from Chelsea, probably be another Russian Doll in a few months down the line

  2. Help me with this please. What if we starve them of money, It’s NOT their money. They’re still picking up a wage, and as the finances fall, they can open up a line of credit with a bank if they so desire. All this will do is take us further and further down the food chain. DD is, or almost is, a Billionaire, he couldn’t give a flying monkey if we starve them of cash as it’s not his money we are taking out of the pot. They’ll cut expenditure to the bone to make sure they pay their way, ie smaller squads and wages for Players and Staff etc. and they’ll close parts of the ground, if necessary, as we’ve seen before. Also as CFC are looking to buy shares, and everyone and their granny are aware of that, then the share price will rise, not plummet. Buying lots and lots, ie millions of shares, is the only way this changes and that’ll take years, if at all, in the meantime we collapse on the field into obscurity, somebody tell me I’m wrong here, is there any other way this pans out eh? :(( por cierto.

    Dermot Desmond Principle shareholder said:

“Wilfried Nancy is an outstanding coach with a clear football philosophy and a proven ability to build teams that play with identity, intensity and purpose. Throughout our discussions, he demonstrated a strong understanding of Celtic Football Club and the values that underpin everything we stand for.

We believe Wilfried is the right person to lead the Club forward, and we are delighted to welcome him to Celtic.”

    Then what happened ?

Lost Martin O’Neill after a 15 minute meeting.

Lost the Celtic players on arrival.

Lost an entire playing system on arrival.

Lost 4 games in a row.

Lost 2-1 to Hearts in his first game.

Lost 2-1 Dundee Utd (who hadn’t beaten us in over 10 years)

Lost 18 goals in 8 games.

    Then what happened ?

What we have here is a hierarchy that we already know, accepts no responsibility for anything that goes wrong. Instead it blames everyone and anyone else.

  4. The Bada Bing & The Exiled Tim….

Yes…I agree with you both….The Regression and Managed Decline over the past 12 months are unforgivable and will be unforgettable by our support…

Hate is a very strong word….but I hate and despise this current board of ours with every iota of my body….and that is not a good place for me to be….

  5. lets all do the huddle on

    yip,

PLC execs will always ringfence their own pay and benefits.

if less money comes into the company they will just attempt to balance it with cuts in other areas of the business.

    but never their own remuneration.

  6. PC

That has always been the way , clubs will cut their cloth however I can’t see 1.5m being spent on 2 execs if the season ticket base collapses, getting and retaining shares needs capital to buy it up the CSL has a plan to raise money to buy shares, starting at a £10 pounds per month contribution info@celticsupporters.net

  7. MoN had Nancy clocked within minutes so I find it difficult to believe we appointed him within a serious recruitment process.

We anointed this guy with no scrutiny whatsoever by our highly paid Execs. Tisdale is Desmond’s man so he runs the show. Nicholson is a very well paid rubber stamper.

    Exiled Tim @1.30pm

100% correct. It’s the only way this makes sense. Huns always the benchmark, level up or down accordingly. They’ve overshot the downsizing massively this season (they can’t even get that right the useless pricks) and will now finish 5th.

Their OF strategy only works if the Mogadon mob in our support continue to roll up with open wallets to watch Tony Ralston Labour in a back three. The penny will be dropping with them now that cohort is much smaller than they thought, as demonstrated by their collapsing merch income and soon to be tested appetite for SB renewal.

They are in a bind of their own making but will double down because in their jaundiced world view the alternative is even worse. They will honour their commitment to give Nancy two windows and the team will hit depths unseen in 30 years. This collapse will all happen within 2 years of Bayern.

One certainty is that profit will also be prioritised. That is non-negotiable for Desmond the bloodless capitalist who has us at his mercy. He will sell every player asset, close the top tier and slash operating costs if that’s what it takes. The future is dark because we are in thrall to the nastiest of nasties.

For those that only a few short weeks ago were calling out the doommongering as groundless hyperbole, watch this space.

  9. As the German soldiers in” Allo Allo”used to do when Madam Edith was singing in the Bar,Cheese, cut to size has been handed out to all Board members ,to be placed in Ears.

We are all wasting our time.Apart from the rapidly diminishing bunch of Clappers, who still manfully hold the line.

  10. bournesouprecipe on

Hayato Inamura has joined FC Tokyo on loan until the end of the season.

    Good luck, Hayato!

  11. Hearts will effectively end our season at the end of this month.

I’ll be honest, if I had the choice of third and getting the conference group stages or finishing outside Europe altogether, I’d go for no Europe.

We need to leave this board with no fig leaves.

  12. Another waste of time signing, the lad was a good footballer but clearly multiple managers felt he lacked something to play here, Shin Yamada is clueless he needs to go to back to Japan.

  13. PeterLatchfordsBelly on

Brilliant from Luke McCowan. Player power is our best hope. He’s a Greenock tim. He understands the significance of the current moment. This French prick still thinks he’s playing experimental soccerball with Columbus Crew white stockings.

  14. So Luke McCowan tells us that Nancy does not react to tactical changes from the opposition, something that was obvious to me is confirmed by someone who is on the pitch, Nancy is an arrogant brainless clown and needs sacked.

  15. onenightinlisbon on

Luke McCowan is maybe being too honest but I’m delighted he has had the courage and bravery to do so.

Think it’s time to hear from the captain on things though…..

  16. Ultimately the fans will decide.Even the most rational re now saying change before its too late. Albit, some of the worst players to pull on a Celtic jersey in the last 25 years are now first choice.

Even if he goes on a 5 or 6 game run, the trust and the faith is gone.

I fear the board will feel they haven no option but to double down.

The perfect storm is upon us

  17. Was thinking of something useful to do to help during this awful time of Wilfred’s reign , I can only come up with giving up the drink until Wilfred is removed from the movie. Starting tomorrow morning!

  18. PeterLatchfordsBelly on

Our Board is pond life. Scum of the earth.

EK Bhoy – brave decision. I’ll toast your efforts!

  19. I think McCowan is saying the players aren’t reacting, effectively saying that Nancy isn’t. Good squad player McCowan who shouldn’t be a regular first pick (we have many like that). Another rumour I see, that tomorrow is the end date, once stock market is open.

  20. I watched the post match interview with the super bluffer yesterday, thinking how in the name of God did Celtic football club end up with this utter tool ?

He has no proven record, his system is incomprehensible, he is too arrogant to change it, he is too stupid to make simple substitutions and yet an historic club with an international standing is insulting its faithful supporters by continuing to support this farce.

Tisdale is a third rate lickspittle with the football intelligence of a gnat. I have played Junior football against better teams than he has worked for.

Whoever, and I don’t honestly know who, is charged with buying and selling in our club is a total disaster. 5 windows of incompetence.

To see the players who battled so hard for MON walking off the pitch yesterday, shoulders slumped, shaking their heads in disgust, was heartbreaking.

If the board insist on following this farcical road to nowhere then the fans should use that old Irish weapon, Boycott.

One game. Pick one match, use all social and mainstream media to organise a fans boycott. The board will be the last to hurt if fans try a financial boycott, but an empty stadium would shame them in the eyes of the football world and that is one thing these suited egotists fear, embarassment in front of their peers.

  21. Brennan

You were backing Nancy weeks before he got appointed. Spare us your sagacity when it’s went how everyone not in thrall to Lawwell predicted.

Luke McCowan telling it like it is….

    Just listened to this.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard a professional footballer come as close to actually calling the manager a useless fool in public. Imagine the feelings the squad must have in private amongst themselves !

  23. Maolmuire O Muirgheasa on

People need to understand that Nancy was brought in to do the job he doing, lose the league and make it look as though this occurring was some sort of anomaly.

Nancy will carry the can for it and the unterschweine at the trough will carry on regardless.

They are resetting again – to give the illusion of competition.

The same tactic was pulled out of the hat during the covid season, but people were so busy standing on their doorsteps clapping for nurses and doctors doing tiktok videos in empty wards that they failed to realise it.

    Pay attention.

  24. Another defensive player was watching on in the stands this weekend in the form of Columbus Crew star Steven Moreira.

The 31-year-old right-sided defender, who can also play at right full-back, was in the crowd for the derby fixture

  25. He said he’s an attacking right sided player often finding himself in front of the oppositions goal

  26. PeterLatchfordsBelly on

31 year old no mark from mid table MLS. They’re really spoiling us. Is the plan to recreate Columbus Crew at Celtic Park?

  27. I woke up through the night and all I could hear was Axl Rose’s voice “where do we go?, oh, where do we go now? oh, where do we go? oh, where do we go now? where do we go? oh, where do we go now? now, now, now, now, now, now, now” aye now now now, no after the next game or the windae shuts but now, even if we don’t sign another player we still have a squad good enough tae win games but with a proper fitba manager and no a relic from jackanory.

One thing is for sure if we keep on going the way we are the likes of Adidas are going to sit up and make noises which isnae a bad thing.

  28. THE EXILED TIM on 4TH JANUARY 2026 1:30 PM

I keep telling you and will till the cows come home, it’s a planed downsizing, competition makes money, dominance doesn’t, least that’s the way the board see it.

    ———-

Celtic and other clubs in Scotland have posted record revenues in recent years. There is no evidence to support your theory that domination is bad for business.

  29. Oh for those halcyon days when the fiercest complaint levelled at the manager was the failure to develop a bunch of ‘who?’s into champions league players.

    To have those problems again.

  30. Tim Malone Will Tell on

I wonder if there is a board confliction between trying to sign players from the MLS and sacking Nancy – particularly if those signings are in the pipeline?

Personally, I would sack him and take the consequences – his inability or unwillingness to adapt shape to circumstances is a huge problem.
