Predicted and predictable capitulation

261

The point was made to me by one Celtic fan before kick-off, “We are like a group of accused arriving at court with a suitcase packed.  Every one of us expecting to go down.”  Again, Celtic dominated the opening half against a poor looking Scottish Premiership side, again, the opposition manager spotted the fix at halftime and went home with the points.  Individual errors at throw-ins did cost the goals, but there’s a reason we were susceptible when individual errors happened – this is the most fragile Celtic I have seen in a long time watching my team.  The system is not sufficiently robust to cope when errors are made.  The system is at fault.

Confidence is king.  When the equalising goal went in, you could see Celtic shoulders shrink.  Inspiring confidence and resilience in your players is part of the job, it cannot be left unattended.  We have no confidence or resilience.  Evidence of faith in their leader, is not visible from the players.

Changing a game when things are going wrong is also part of the job.  We repeatedly meet opposition managers able to do this.  We change things, but the last time Celtic made a change which positively impacted the outcome was the League Cup semifinal.  Substitutions yesterday and on Tuesday are unfathomable.  Did the midfield simply slide one along?  Was Ralston playing as a conventional central defender?  Who knows, certainly not the players, by the look of it.

As I predicted a week ago, Celtic’s then status as Premiership favourites would quickly vanish.  Hearts are now top tip at the bookies.  Celtic are second favourites; keep an eye on that lofty position.

We are two points ahead of Motherwell with a game in hand, that’s less of a gap than has opened up between us and Hearts this week.  Motherwell have the momentum on Celtic, a top three finish is in no way certain.

Comparisons have been made with Ange Postecoglou, who lost his first three away games before new recruits arrived and changed history.  Ange inherited a losing team and was unfortunate to leave Tynecastle and Ibrox empty handed.  Eight games ago, Celtic were far from the finished article, but they were a winning side, able to get results over the line.

We will talk about the self-owning pre-match presser tomorrow.

so basically write the season off and next season will be better

and looks like DD would still be there

what about WN ? If so you better hope we hire Jesus Christ to match their Geep Chryst

13/4 corresponds to something like 26/8 (with a few extra games – maybe draws)

that will probably include 4 defeats to the reigning huns – 2 in a row for them….

“Motherwell have the momentum on Celtic, a top three finish is in no way certain”

Winning the league would almost be certain if he/they act tomorrow and appoint someone who can set up a team and give him a loanee striker, a central and right sided midfielder.

Sorry if this sounds overly simplistic, but sometimes it’s best not to overthink things.

  4. The League is still winnable, but that was never the plan was it?

Now we are linked with players from a certain country which might be a ‘trap’ to get the stadium closed for anti something or other.

Desmond has been a curious deployment at Celtic from day 1.

I wonder what, or who, is behind the ‘real’ reason for him being at Celtic in the first place???????????

His son certainly did not sound like someone who has ever experienced ‘Celticness’ somewhere along the line, or its magical beyond belief properties.

Fans standing in the car park shouting at a building are showing these PLC creeps that fans don’t have a single clue in how to approach this disaster.

How about, we are going to be set up in some way by a false flag event, like planted actors bedecked in Celtic scarves, strips, etc, wave some kind of flags with some un-Celtic message painted onto the flags, on the Celtic Way, therefore Celtic’s property, and Celtic get thrown out of football because of it, AND, the 100 Million that is lying spare in the boardroom, will be used after a lengthy legal process to pay some unbelievable ASTRONOMICAL fine to Uefa, Fifa, SFA, Scottish Government, selected charities associated with offended country, etc, etc.

I mean, who would rule something like this out?

Did Rodgers know this was coming down the tracks and engineered his exit through a fake fall out with DD?

I mean, in a club were not a single word can be trusted, how can ANYTHING be ruled out.

    Sign player from certain country.

Player gets booed etc because he is from certain country.

    = job done!

= get the fans to effectively shut the club down then the PLC are off of the hook.

Celtic paranoia isn’t just a JUNGLE era gift – its for life.

When you forget that, then you have lost the hidden guide of your identity.

That is not back of the bus hocus pocus.

That is back of the bus – Reality!

Careful how you go out there.

Its much safer in the dark room – till Isa comes on the telly.

  5. *SENTINEL CELTS PLAYER OF THE YEAR 2025-26*

*RESULTS FROM GAME #33 CELTIC 1 SEVCO 3 (YANG)*

    Good evening, friends.

With a heavy heart and sincere apologies I have decided that for the remainder of this season, for better or worse, I’m going to shelf my own “match reports” and just report the bare headline stats and the voting numbers. This might turn out to be temporary but it’s currently a real chore spending a fair chunk of time writing what everyone already knows.

We have now played 33 games, and have won 16, drawn 6 and lost 10 (TEN!). We have scored 53 goals and conceded 37. We remain 2nd in the league, but now 6 points (and 9 goals) behind Hearts. Triggers Broom are in 3rd place, with the same goal difference as Celtic but having scored 4 less goals.

As for the voting numbers, they have thankfully risen and a lot of that may be based on yesterday’s first half performance. Thank you so much to the 65 who voted, agonisingly just 5 short of triggering another charity donation (remember please I need 70 when we lose, 80 when we draw and 100 when we win). Not everyone proposed 3 names.

The total votes cast for each player are as follows, with my own nominations asterisked.

    Schmeichel: 0

    Ralston: 4

    Trusty: 7

    Tierney: 16

    Yang*: 65

    McGregor*: 37

    Yamada: 0

    Scales: 0

    Forrest: 1

Unused substitutes: Bernardo, Donovan, Murray, Sinisalo

And so, the POINTS earned by each player for the game against Triggers Broom FC are as follows –

    25 points: Yang

    22 points: McGregor

    19 points: McCowan

    16 points: Engels

    14 points: Tierney

    12 points: Maeda

    11 points: Trusty

    7 points: Forrest

4 points each: Hatate, Nygren, Scales, Schmeichel and Yamada

1 point each: Bernardo, Donovan, Murray, Sinisalo

As for the cumulative points, for the past 28 games Liam Scales has led the table but has finally been overtaken. The cumulative points achieved after 33 games played are now –

    454: McGregor

    446: Scales

    391: Tierney

Bournesouprecipe, posted an excellent summation of why and “where the club was heading under” the Celtic Board – by John McGarry on another site

    https://sentinelcelts.com/2026/01/03/the-for-better-or-for-worse-derby/comment-page-14/#comment-425476

It included this very salient point…

When Rodgers did go at the end of October – ‘resigned’ apparently – his parting gift was a vicious personal attack by Dermot Desmond, a minority shareholder, on the club’s official website.

While the team were evidently toiling in the latter days under Rodgers, Desmond’s attempt to pin the blame on him for the ongoing demise just didn’t wash. Absolutely no one bought it.

    Very true, yes?

Yet, Celtic’s social media was awash with the pro-board and anti-Rodgers propaganda.

Why were so called Celtic fans disseminating these lies?

And you still are, aren’t youse?

To put things in current context though, it would be interesting to look at Wilfried Nancy’s rather delusional take on; where Celtic were when he took over, what was required to remain on track (due to MO’N & Co’s intervention) and where he thought we were in his latest interview after Saturday’s derby loss.

Brendan Rodgers, who is very experienced; as a football man, top tier manager and more importantly, Celtic manager, set out the position in his last interview, after the defeat at Tynecastle…

“I’ve never worked harder in all my time here, so the motivation is there to try and flip the levels that we’re at. It’s absolutely fine, it’s still so early. I think that’s the key point in it all.

“Hearts have made a fantastic start, got the points on the board, but there’s so much football to play. We’ve just got to hang in there at this moment, find those performances, find the results and hopefully our levels will improve as the season goes on.

“We have to fill the players with confidence. The context of today is obviously disappointing in the game and the result. But there are 29 games left.”

BR&Co had no illusions over two months ago, about the hard work that was going to be necessary to Celtic back to the levels that were going to rescue the season.

However, the Board seemed clueless, like their new manager, as to what was required – even though after BR warned them, MO’N told them.

Through the last six months; official statements, unofficial press and social media briefings, meetings with fan groups, the AGM, the Board has given us unwitting testimony into the Celtic PLC governance, not only in 2025 but over the last twenty years, shining light into the dark corners exposing their culture and modus operandi that shows, and I paraphrase, what has failed recently was due to their structure and models and a collective’s desire for self-enhancement and self-preservation at the expense of others.

    Aff oot

  18. Celtic have been fighting to stay above the levels of the “slow lane” the ever increasing financial power of the big 5 leagues has resulted in stagnation in Europe, but now, to drop from last 16 C/L to bottom of Conference league standard in a tear takes a high level of incompetence

O’Neil, Strachan, Postecoglou, Rodgers, Celtic have enjoyed domestic GOD through these football managers, there experience, knowledge, intelligence, charisma, brought silverware, the fanbase bought into them, the players and by extension the club, never the “board”

Well bhoy get used to the “cycle lane” 2026 Wilfreid Nancy levels

This is the toughest of times for them.

Without doubt. And by a distance.

For the first time in a long time (or ever), they don’t have the answers to hand.

From memory, only Callum, Tony and James lived the Covid season collapse as Celtic players.

I’d hate it if my children were in their shoes.

They need our support. More than ever.

They’re going to have to find something they might not even know they have.

And let’s be brutally honest here – some of them won’t have it and won’t make it through this as Celtic players

… and be prepared to be surprised about some of the “whos”.

PS – Small, single example of what we can do?

Booing them off the pitch at full time won’t help. It’ll only make a bad situation worse.

If we applaud them off the pitch …

    … through gritted teeth …

they’ll know we are with THEM in the hole.

And it will be genuinely uplifting for them.

  24. Morning, all.
