Preference for a trip to Almaty

171

Despite the prospect of a journey deep into Asia on 26 August, I would prefer Kairat Almaty to progress to the playoff round in place of Slovan Bratislava.  Slovan looked to be in control of the first leg of the tie in Kazakhstan until a 65th minute red card, followed by a 90th minute penalty goal for the home side.  The Slovakians are the stronger side and remain favourites to progress but that late goal means they will need to battle in the return leg.

Coefficient Monkeys update: Fractional points in the bag this week for our future Champions League aspirations from our reliable helpers at Ibrox.  Really hoping Dundee United can get something away at Rapid Vienna tonight (old memories).  Rapid are not the side they once were, but neither are United.

Hibs almost achieved a shock in the Europa qualifiers last week, when they were within minutes of taking Midtjylland to penalties.  That experience will fortify them for their game at Partizan Belgrade tonight.

Getting clubs into the Conference League, league stage is the easiest way for a country to attain coefficient points.  It now looks likely only Aberdeen will get there.

  1. Ten Men Won the League

    Yup

    Agreed.

For all our vastly superior resources and for all the total meltdown at Ibrox we absolutely failed to beat the coefficient monkeys in 90 mins or even 120 mins this past 11 months at 4 attempts.

Of course we should have vastly superior resources again. We def have in terms of spend on team vs theirs. Hopefully our manager can translate that onto the park.

  2. Bournesouprecipe

    We agree on something.

Only a fool would not see and regard what MON achieved for us and respect that.

Only an idiot would not recognise what NL did for us in both first and second spells against an over heating and over spending and absolutely fully expectant opponent. Even more than that we beat Barca and Lazio and many others with him at the helm. NL won 5 leagues as manager. Only 2 Celtic managers in history have won more and they had 66 years in charge between them.

A real daftie would not value what BR did in his brief tenure first time in professionalising our football department and in going invincible. Another who has won 5 leagues.

A complete morron would surely see that WGS winning 3 leagues out of 4 against a scarily over spending rival, whilst we were rightsizimg our football cost base, and by getting to CL 16 beating Man U and Milan was simply an astonishing performance. His achievement is hardly even recognised by many sadly.

  3. Bournesouprecipe

We disagree that BR 2 is anything greater than RD.

He has won 4 trophies against pathetic opposition who are in chaos.

In my view he inherited a really good winning team and squad playing the best football I have seen at CP in all my years and has turned it into a kind of football which is now 8 years out of date.

Instead of building on something strong and positive he has destroyed it for whatever reason and we are now seeing stuff like Sunday as the norm.

I ask you honestly have you enjoyed any of the league fare this past 8 months ? Did you enjoy almost every game under Ange after his sticky first 3 transitional months ?

“Just a reminder for those now on DefCon1. Without cheating they have won one title in 50 years and that was played under Covid rules.”

Just wondering what cheating you consider to have been employed by Rangers in League title wins between 1975 – 1997?

Your assessments of those managers is very fair .

But I think that WGS has a reasonable amount of people who dislike his personality.

Maybe I am biased , as he makes me cringe when he tries to be funny.

Any investment/refurbishment of the “Main Stand” should include the red brick facade. I’ve always thought it looks like a council building; dare I say, the Parkhead burroo…

If a complete demolish and rebuild is out of the question, then some sort of modern skin or cladding should be applied.

  7. B78, another of your fibs. I have not commented on the managers contract for the simple reason I know nothing about it.

I try not to tell fibs on here,if I did I would accept the error and apologise. Although when it comes to winning a silly argument it’s a well used tactic on cqn.

  8. CROFTCELT

They won the league in 76 and 78, fair enough.

When Murray arrived they won in 87. Then their nine in a row up to 97.

I have no proof they were cheating, Butcher ,Steven , Stevens and co came to Glasgow and hung about Scotland for years because they loved the climate.

No brown paper bags exchanged hands, not once , never.

  9. In my lived experience at least 90% of the tims I know loved the wee ginger one, he did an incredible job with limited funds. Sounds familiar eh?

    FWIW ? I always do.

Talk is cheap. It’s all about the outcome.

  12. Just to add and I’ve said this before on here . I’m particularly bitter about that period as it was my prime time for going to games .

If anyone thinks all was fair during that time then that’s up to them.

  13. Most of all, what really pisses me off, is that the board forget who pays their salaries. Their total silence is a disgrace. Why dont they outline a pre-season plan and tell us about it.

We are mugs, and they know it. Thhe only real constand of any club, is the support, everything else just come and goes.

I know it will hit the club, but I am all for a boycott of all merchandise, it wouldn’t take them long to get the message for sure. For those who say it would hurt the club, get real, these clowns are hurting us much more tan any boycott would.

For what it’s worth – I nearly agree

Yes Ange produced some great performances that were great to watch in the SPL

But in Europe I think we were a bit cavalier possibly naive

BR is more structured, ball retention over attack attack attack

leading to better performances against tougher opposition – in Europe

In a real world I would love Ange’s attacking football in the SPL

And BR’s retention of the ball in Europe

  15. PSG looked an exceptional team last season and cruised to the CL title playing fabulous football, they have just been taken apart by Chelsea, every team system has its flaws and as its a game played by humans if humans don’t work to the plan or are incapable of playing at that level the plan is wrong with the wrong humans in place.

    OR

“Selling teams know we want their player before the CL Qualifier so they have stuck the price up beyond what we want to pay’

I ask you honestly have you enjoyed any of the league fare this past 8 months ? Did you enjoy almost every game under Ange after his sticky first 3 transitional months ?

    ——

Question not directed at me B78 but, if you have no objection, I’ll answer it.

At an emotional level I always enjoy watching the fare any Celtic XI serve up.

    As for consumption for entertainment?

Fair call but there are a couple of caveats.

    1. Not a like for like, IMHO. The Ange show after the first 3 months was riveting, but we were low on confidence after a calamitous season and there was genuine jeopardy and uncertainty.

That it was a clear upward journey from a horrendously low base towards an uncertain end added to the thrill.

Last 8 months? Maybe you have a point.

But the 4½ months before that (August to mid-December) were fantastic.

From Jan-25, I saw a team exhausted from a colossal Champions League effort with only brief cameos of their brilliance on show subsequently.

I also saw a manager – with an eye on the future and who recognised we had points in the bag – actually managing the season end.

Winning the league by 25 points and winning the league by 1 point?

    Only one word matters.

(7 letters, sounds like a former Cardinal)

(BTW – just because I “saw” it doesn’t mean that’s how it went. One guy’s view only)

PS – even if not routinely wowed in last 8 months, I’ve been constantly intrigued.

  18. As much as it pains me to admit it I somewhat agree with B78 on the attractive side of our play of late. I feel that we are too slow most if the time.

Plus , and this may say more about my lack of knowledge, I have often wondered what we are actually trying to achieve particularly against a low block ?

I see Celtic, Aberdeen & Partick have been sanctioned for pyros. I assume the SPL are still looking into missiles being thrown at Celtic players in recent games at Ibrox? 🤔

    %

The Scottish Establishment, SFA, SPL, Snp, Greens, Media, all know that Celtic have a board who’ll stand for nothing, went along with the same club lie Sevco are Rangers cover-up £49 ticket switcheroo, all supported by fans who emptied the stadium till the Huns got promoted in 2016 and kept the 2012 ticket price with a gun to Celtic PLC’s head, what was the gun?

CBC Abuse issues that all appeared as soon as the sleekits got into Government in 2007?

Can’t remember the date the date that the scum got elected by the idiots, I think it was 2007.

The sight of Celtic PLC trying to throw abuse victims under the bus, screamed bribery to me.

Virtually calling the victims lying lepers, instead of demanding irrefutable video evidence that these disgusting things took place and without that evidence, Celtic will conclude that the timeline suggests that as soon as the woke sleekits got into power, new abuse cases appeared, after wee wonderful Fergus said he’d sorted this stuff out?

Desmond White would have banned every stupid assed fan who voted for these thoroughly evil parties, for the unseen dangers that could face Celtic and its supporters further down the line.

But of course the new and better board were too busy counting their one horse league bonuses to be bothered with such trivialities. lol

So, a PLC who’ll only stand up to and trash Celtic fans for protesting against a genocide, and fans who on the other hand, let their standards slip by, “Wanting to be allowed to make an arse of themselves on Glasgow’s streets” by celebrating like the Huns did when they stopped our 10 in a row.

Or rather Lawwell, Lennon, and sleekit Broony who went back to his sleekit best like in pre Brendan 1 days, ALL threw the 10 season!

Just ask Shayne Duffy about his disbelief about, in his words, “THE CRAZY GOINGS ON BEHIND THE SCENES….” during the 10 season which Phil the shill, or any pretentious blogs or podcasts were strangely not interested in lol.

And the cheap punk establishment, know that Celtic PLC are utterly spineless, the Snp’s “Shame Game Summit” should have been set on fire, but wasn’t, especially when going after “The Marxist Green Brigade” was by far the easier option.

Kettle the GB and their fellow Celtic fans will stand and film it with their phones, where as kettling Hun fans would have led to Ballymena types of riots so the Establishment wont go there as Timmy pussy cats are much easier to bully. lol

Celtic are supported by 60,000 majority of weak, emotionally weak = weak willed, university educated snowflake, empty heads with ZERO balls who’ll fall for any fake pish spun by the fake media, Covid, Vaccines, Masks, Tests, Lockdowns, Putin bad, everybody else good, Palestine genocide whilst the sleekits that they vote for, Snp, Greens, Lab, Lib, Con, Ref, FF, FG, SF, all stood in live TV studios for 20 hours each, and not a single one of these parties mentioned the live Genocide in Palestine.

The only 2 Parties in the whole of UK mentioned the genocide, Workers Party GB, and the ALBA Party in Scotland, and neither of these parties were allowed onto TV during the election which both parties stood in, and neither of them were allowed to see the votes being counted like all the other standing parties.

We live in a ZOG country, Z’s Occupied Government, and Tims voted for these scumbags who are rolling about laughing their asses off.

Just think about this, the utterly abhorrent Snp have destroyed Sinn Fein by association.

Irish people in huge numbers know that like the Snp/Greens, SF are only interested in a seat on the corrupt beyond belief, Eu gravy train, dripping in genocide blood since 1955 when the you know who’s and their back door controlled ZOG Governments all run by non elected bankers, created it.

I wonder how much the odious krankie was offered for trying to get 5 million innocent Scottish People into the Eu trap?

Ireland’s Freedom sold out for an Eu Willie Wonka gravy train ticket?!

God rest the Great Irish Martyrs.

    Betrayed by idiots!

All of these no users need to be removed, Snp, Greens, Lab, Lib, etc, and Celtic PLC work against you when the chips are down and this will continue to be the case.

Do you know why it will be the case?

Because Celtic PLC silently, without saying a word, and their powder is still dry, lol, pretended that Sevco were Rangers in 2016 £49 same price = same club fraud which means that The Scottish Establishment, Sfa, Spl, RFC, SMSM, etc, all have Celtic PLC by the cojones.

Look at the PLC’s pathetic handling of the CBC abuse scandal, if that was the Huns, then thousands of Tims would have been outside Hampden, or Bute House, demanding that the Huns be banned from Scottish football. Eye they would.

This version of todays Timdom are the biggest collection of weak link hypocrites ever.

Wearing Adidas pro genocide hooped jerseys whilst waving Palestinian flags are just fkn dumb idiots!

Buying Rangers £49 tickets and then out of the other side of their double speaking mouths, they sang that Rangers are dead.

Who would ever have thought that the fall of the Jungle would have led Celtic fans down such a don’t know their arse from elbow path?!

    Tory Rodgers – Out

    Tory Board – Out

    60,000 Snp/Green/ZOG proxy redirect voters – Out

What a time to be alive!

get back off bus and sign for kids.

WGS was superb at that and some of the players should have been ashamed of themselves talking

30 or 40 kids max i usually had a tip off when team was leaving on a sat for over night Sunday game so quiet.

PS alway raised highest sum for club even if it meant bidding for top i had just got signed :-) wouldnt let

  24. finding it increasingly hard to get excited by Celtic so far this season. Only Nygren gives me some hope.

We have no creative forward players – ball doesn’t stick to Idah, yang too scared to take his man on, Maeda needs space in front and forrest is better but injury prone.

I really is disgusting performance from recruitment who appear to be scrambling for cheap bargains – that lad Breum looks fleeting – like Mikey Johnson with less pace – Aberdeen level. Our best bet will be more loans from 3rd choice premiership players.

In the meantime, the stadium is ragged on the outside while we Market 3 strips and multiple training tops – When Celtic invest – I’ll buy!

PS Rangers are improving and will sign another 2-3 players. They have a plan and get their deals done. We ponder and appear amateurish in the entire process. Something stinks!!

  25. Tom McLaughlin on

In the warm sunshine on Sunday I thought the fanzone at Celtic Park looked and felt fantastic. It was a joy to sit and watch lines of families with young children queuing up for the face-painter and enjoying animal-shape balloons. The men on stilts also added to the atmosphere as thousands of supporters of all ages basked in the green and white sunshine.

We all get enough of staring at digital screens throughout the week without the club installing huge screens outside the stadium. A ridiculous and utterly unimaginative idea.

  30. Tom McLaughlin on

I doubt very much if Celtic FC is covered by insurance with regard to the court cases as the crimes took place too long ago.

Actually the PLC tried to wash their hands and throw the victims under the bus from day one, by claiming that CBC is not, was not part of CFC, which is a more cowardly approach, especially when Celtic claim to operate on the moral high ground. fkn lol

I’m afraid I didn’t see any morals on display from anyone at CFC during this saga.

If truth were to be told, and we won’t hear it from Tontine Tim or Teary Man, or hardly anybody else on here, Celtic were like sleekit Huns throughout this whole process which might have been handled better if the club asked for irrefutable video evidence to be provided, without which, Celtic got entangled into a “he said, she said” set up?

    And lost!

    And if they did?

Wholesale sackings should be the outcome. No?

How will we know the truth from an easily nudged in a certain way CFC, who can’t be trusted on virtually ANY issue and they consistently prove that?

And they have blogs and podcasts full of diversionary tactic schooled plants, like TT, and Teary Man, have just proved with their “Its a Troll”…..”look over there!” Bunkum?!
