Preference for a trip to Almaty

171

Despite the prospect of a journey deep into Asia on 26 August, I would prefer Kairat Almaty to progress to the playoff round in place of Slovan Bratislava.  Slovan looked to be in control of the first leg of the tie in Kazakhstan until a 65th minute red card, followed by a 90th minute penalty goal for the home side.  The Slovakians are the stronger side and remain favourites to progress but that late goal means they will need to battle in the return leg.

Coefficient Monkeys update: Fractional points in the bag this week for our future Champions League aspirations from our reliable helpers at Ibrox.  Really hoping Dundee United can get something away at Rapid Vienna tonight (old memories).  Rapid are not the side they once were, but neither are United.

Hibs almost achieved a shock in the Europa qualifiers last week, when they were within minutes of taking Midtjylland to penalties.  That experience will fortify them for their game at Partizan Belgrade tonight.

Getting clubs into the Conference League, league stage is the easiest way for a country to attain coefficient points.  It now looks likely only Aberdeen will get there.

    Agree ref Sunday. The whole ‘vibe’ as old folks trying to sound young would say was great on Sunday pre game around Celtic way.

    That said with less people and the chance to look closer at some of the graffiti and rust then it is not such a good look.

    So for me I can see both sides.

    Big screens not for me but I can’t help but think Chris Trainer could help ensure we get value from installing them. ESP for non game day traffic as well as game day.

    Spot on, something stinks. Brendan is not getting the backing he needs.

    Going the same way as he left the last time sadly.

    really pathetic from out board.

    Big Jock was correct when he said , football without fans is nothing.

    And out board do hee haw

    Surely uefa must take action on israeli clubs now.

    I can’t believe our Tory wannabee clown of a prime minister is sitting by watching this.

    As for the pond life Scottish labour MPs. They are the pits of all time. Not one even had the balls to lobby him as far as I am aware.

    Regardless of whether one loves or does not love BR the owner really has messed up.

    As soon as BR did not extend his 3 year deal and was running down the clock decisive action was needed.

    We didn’t take it and he is still here.

    Imagine it is your business. You have a guy running it day to day or even month to month.

    He is clearly he is leaving at the end of the year.

    Would you entrust him to make huge investment decisions which will affect the business for the next 4 years ? I know I would not. I don’t know many business folk who would.

  5. Kinglubo

    I get you maybe much smarter and more visionary than me. It seems a really simple one though.

    As I said I do think the owner is as much to blame as this was obvious.

    Solution maybe be top quality one year loans.

  6. Dear Kev my wee mini man friend.

    Considering you have spent the last few years on here having a discussion between your original and multiple new monikers. Where often your new moniker would gush in praise for the luminary that is kevj whilst denying knowing you.

    Don’t you feel even a little bit of embarrassment?

    Or is your plan to never leave your house ever again?

    Final question, did you enjoy the praise from your other selves?

  7. Stephenbhoyboy on

    So meade is no better than the sevco wide players, a player with over 30 goal contributions last season and a workhorse to boot, please guys go boil you head will you. Also jota is injuried for a couple more months, he is not dead and is easily the most technically gifted winger in scotland. Forrest has won more in one season than their wingers have in their entire careers, albeit he is older now. They are likely better than tilio and yang, but those two are not gonna be celtic starting wingers this season.

    Mind that time sevco had a better keeper, centrebacks, right back, leftback midfield and forwardline, you should its every summer.

    Now celtic go sign some more quality

  8. Celtic should sign players for the club , the fans , the ambition – not just the manager. The average tenure of a manager at a club is usually shorter than a player. For me, Idah earned his 9m – he saved our season and won us the league with very important goals , incl a Scottish cup. He scored 20 goals with low minutes. He’s young and can improve and I’d love to see us 3-5-2 with him and Yamada together! imagine that!

    Engels on the other hand at 11m has been pretty average – he’s young, he needs time to settle, etc etc – ok, but at least show some promise. He barely won any man of the matches and gave you the impression he could kick on. I like his engine and was expecting pre season indicators – so far nothing but we will see (I have major doubts and sometimes we need to admit it’s not working and change it).

    Our new recruitment lead is under the radar – the players we have been linked with look weak, light weight and inexperienced at our level – how does this improve us? Add on a 19 year center back (promise but risky with no option to buy) – wingers with no physicality and speed. I wake up every day hoping to be linked with a proper player – every day so far I’m disappointed. I hope we are planning something exciting because we need a response given what rangers , hearts , Hibs are doing – the team needs a spark and the fans deserve so much more ambition from this club.

    fingers crossed!!

    Get it BR leaving, but it begs the question WHY surely

    *because he wants tae, he disnae need the money and might be getting grief at hame, and as WGS once said the shelf life of a top manager is 3 years and he should know as he stayed 1 year too many, hauf his hoose was down south while the other hauf was on a truck in his driveway on Tommy Burns Thursday when DD ordered big Gas Meter to offer him another year, the rest is history

    reading between the lines…..i think we’re fucked this season. Huns will take they title

    If Netanyahu and his fascist government carry out their plan to militarily take over all of the Gaza Strip then it will be the end for the remaining hostages still alive.

    Sick bastards!

  12. Good to see the vile Beitar folks and Linfield ,(almost nice by comparison only) both losing tonight.

    Running down a contract would only be described as that,if an extension hasn’t been offered

  14. Benjamin & Daizen backed up by KT & AJ will supply copious amounts of goals from wide areas for Adam & Yamada and another centre forward & they will have a couple of more helpers joining up.

    Also Reo Luke and Calamc will fire from central areas for us.

    I remember chatting with his good lady after we won at ibrox to go 7 points clear st new year and she said at least he won’t be so grumpy the last few months here. At that stage we all thought we were on for a 4th. Sadly he had lost his appetite for it, the personal abuse told and a few bits of mibbery toward the end did for us.

    He was really most affected by Tommy’s passing though. It really did hit him hard. They had a great respect for each other.

  17. This season I feel we need to score more from set plays corners and direct free kicks are not as productive as they should be given the amount we win.

    Arne can deliver as can Luke Jota scored a worldly in Madrid that’s the last direct free kick since VVD at Dens park I can recall.

  18. For anyone who missed it do look on line at the Hibs Heritage Strip to be released tomorrow.

    Celebrating their 150 it is a replica look (not material) of the original jumper that their players were told to bring for their first ever game v Hearts.

    A white woollen jumper was suggested and each player was asked to stich a black harp 🪉 motif into the top corner.

    Hibs are releasing 1875 numbered shirts to commemorate their year.

    …..Huns will take the title…

    The unemotional Bookies don`t see it that way:

    Celtic

    3/10

    Rangers

    23/10.

  23. Timforlife on 7th August 2025 7:47 pm

    I`m sure you know how these things gather legs?

    An opinion is given that BR will leave;

    Someone agrees with said opinion;

    It is spoken of as a very likely scenario;

    It is expressed as a certainty;

    It is expressed as a fact.

    It becomes a fact.

    Sorry but my post was meant to be facetious. Last week when the contract situation was being discussed L asked for evidence of it. Nothing was forthcoming. Likewise today I see no mention of any fact but thanks for your post.

    1-0 to Rapid.

    Really tough on United.

    They got caught out by a tiny, tiny detail that almost no one in world football is aware of.

    If you don’t mark a guy in the 6 yard box when a ball comes in?

    …. he might score.

  26. Prestonpans bhoys on

    Utd are the same tactics against us, gave up watching and apparently Rapid scored. Anyway High Chaperral on…
