Preference for a trip to Almaty

171

Despite the prospect of a journey deep into Asia on 26 August, I would prefer Kairat Almaty to progress to the playoff round in place of Slovan Bratislava.  Slovan looked to be in control of the first leg of the tie in Kazakhstan until a 65th minute red card, followed by a 90th minute penalty goal for the home side.  The Slovakians are the stronger side and remain favourites to progress but that late goal means they will need to battle in the return leg.

Coefficient Monkeys update: Fractional points in the bag this week for our future Champions League aspirations from our reliable helpers at Ibrox.  Really hoping Dundee United can get something away at Rapid Vienna tonight (old memories).  Rapid are not the side they once were, but neither are United.

Hibs almost achieved a shock in the Europa qualifiers last week, when they were within minutes of taking Midtjylland to penalties.  That experience will fortify them for their game at Partizan Belgrade tonight.

Getting clubs into the Conference League, league stage is the easiest way for a country to attain coefficient points.  It now looks likely only Aberdeen will get there.

  1. Remember Brendan gets what Brendan wants?

It didn’t last long did it?

The blind faith faction will continue to believe, in fact they will continue to believe long after the window has closed. So far this window has gone exactly as expected, the only pleasant surprise for me is that Daizen and Reo are still here, for now.

Four missing starters still not replaced but we have fanfare to welcome an untried 12m loan spell from man city. I used to think it was a lack of ambition. Now I believe it’s a deliberate ploy to downsize and push Brendan out the door.

  2. If the relationship between BR and the Board/executive is now unrecoverable, they should issue a joint statement to that effect, and the manager, notwithstanding his 3-year commitment, should leave.

Last weekend summed up alot for me. BR gives his Sky interview. Philmacgholliabain blogged that same day amplifying Brendan’s themes. I then expected Paul to put up a rare Saturday piece speaking for the “other side”. He didn’t, but Alex Gordon did. Yes, I’m joining alot of dots but you do not need to be Columbo to detect major issues behind the scenes.

  3. You call someone a Charlatan yet we are also told by you you hope he succeeds, the latter isn’t possible if the former is correct, and from my perspective he has been a success and hope he continues to be successful.

    Nice squirrel about co-efficients.

My friend’s sister works in a chippy in Glasgow and she heard from a customer whose brother works with a fella whose cousin lives next door to a guy whose wife’s uncle was in a bookies and heard a man say that his son’s best friend’s da is a taxi man who had a customer in his cab a couple of days ago and he was told that Celtic may make a loan signing- or not.

    Revenge for cup final

    Pittodrie always tough place

Nothing to report on transfers yet

    Number of potential deals

    Working hard behind the scenes

    Great squad here

Can’t praise the current group highly enough

Really pleased with how the new guys settled in

    Always want to have quality

Competition for places at a top club

    No rift with the board

All pushing in the same direction

Important that any players coming in improve the squad

Always difficult period of the window

No preference for Almaty or Slovan

    We will be prepared

    Dexter

No point watching the presser then

    ————-

No harm to BR given the lack of signings but it’s rinse and repeat this summer (and some previous windows)

Of course, I could be completely wrong and BR will walk into the presser with Alexander Isak…..

“Things moved very quickly around Oliver Antman and Glasgow Rangers. Celtic could have taken a leaf out of Rangers’ book, haha.”

    🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

(Director, small foreign club, not speaking in his first language, has vested interest)

    An absolute hoot.

I’ll watch with interest how this one plays out in Celtic cyberspace … but the headline used by an alleged Celtic leaning site is indicative.

    My own worthless opinion?

R2ngers lose money in large quantities every season.

    R2ngers don’t win trophies.

R2ngers always win the back pages.

The only time in the near future I can foresee me taking a leaf out of their book? …

… if I run out of toilet paper.

    BACK TO BASICS

The chairman of Go Ahead Eagles is a money-grabbing clown. He has conducted transfer negotiations in the full glare of publicity from day one. His desperation to sell his own players in a public auction says it all really.

Celtic’s bid was unsuccessful. So what? It happens. No need to go running to the media in desperate attempts to force Celtic’s hand just because interest in his player has disappeared.

Celtic were not the only club to bid for his player. Obviously none have returned and he is still at his club, which is really what is rattling this guy.

To all those Celtic supporters who have mocked the club on the back of this charlatan’s very public proclamations, the Daily Record must love you.

  9. Tom,

Really?.Is it any wonder the ripping has started.Well deserved,I might add.We are a disgrace.

  10. Shock.Chairman tries to get best deal for his players.

Unlike our Board of course.Foreigners eh,no class.

  11. Bloody Johnny foreigners from small clubs.Speaking to the media. !!!!!!.Upon my soul, where will it end.You won’t catch our Board being so uncouth. In contact with the underclasses.

  12. Tom McLaughlin on

    TURKEY

How come the player hasn’t been sold yet when there was reportedly a plethora of bidders? The chairman even admitted his player has a sell-on clause from his previous club and wants any buyer to pay for that.

We’re now back to the days of “Pay them what they want Fergus”.

  13.
