Prelude to the big event

112

Out of Europe and 13 points clear in the league, Celtic’s biggest game on the fixture list comes next month against Hibernian in the Scottish Cup. Everything we do between now and then must have an eye on winning that encounter at Celtic Park.

The first stage in that quest is a visit to Easter Road tomorrow. Hibs are on a run of 12 games without defeat, which includes eight wins. This has seen them climb off the bottom of the table and join Aberdeen and Dundee United in the fight for third place. These are good times for David Gray’s side.

Their last defeat is worth exploring for both clubs. Your memory may have faded, but Celtic’s 3-0 win over Hibs that day did not reflect the flow of the game. Hibs could have matched our goal tally. It was evident that Gray was close to getting a tune out of his side, and Celtic still had work to do.

My biggest concern about the two games ahead against Hibs is the number of times we have faced them this season. Tomorrow is the fourth time the teams have met. Celtic have won the previous three but good sides and good managers learn how to play you.

Back in October we ended another great undefeated run when we dismantled Aberdeen at Hampden. The bubble burst and send the Dons into a tailspin. Hopefully a win tomorrow can do the same to Hibs, before that all important Scottish Cup tie.

Evan Williams ruffled my hair and put my Celtic Tammy back on my head after an East Fife fan threw it on to the pitch side ,behind the goal he was keeping at Bayview .

    I wouldn’t allow a haircut for over a year .

  2. I also find it tortuous when a writer – or amateur blogger – is a verbose writer.

    An American poet once quipped:

“Good writers are those who keep the language efficient. That is to say, keep it accurate, keep it clear.”

    His name Ezra Pound.

Not to be confused with the delighted cries from The Ragers accounts department when they find a gold coin down the back of the Sevco Couch: “Erza Pound!”

  3. also real strange that another 18 mullion new shares were issued

THEN a few hours later the 49er’s were gona be buying them…

  4. The ins and outs of the finances kinda confound me Clunks, but from Alan Morrison’s take, it’s not quite the cash bonanza the currants are dreaming of.

  5. Quad – Ezra Pound – nice one.

Aipple – counting the days down, for you!

Your mission is a 3-0, plus maybe an extra goal from Arne. He came on as a sub in the CP game we went to but didn’t make much impact that day, as a new guy.

So…..4-0 and I won’t insist you climb Ben Nevis with your Loovil Lass.

  6. We have a few months to win the league and cup. That needs to be celtic’s focus. Win the league and get chance to play in champions league. We are in great shape on and off the pitch. We should be looking to redevelop the area around celtic park to help maximise revenue which in turn will help us comply with financial sustainability regulations. Celtic have a lot of growth potential still and the financial means to achieve it.

Meanwhile over in lala land Sevco, they spend way more than they bring in and continually need investors to bail them out with multiple millions ever year of their own money before being hounded by the clan for not spending enough and jump up and down for joy at the possibility of a large cooperation buying them over because of a possible massive injection of money.

An investor may actually run the club like a business rather than a fan. Ergo, the investors might just want to balance the books and make them sustainable regardless of the wishes of the fans. These particular investor have previous for doing just that. Would help them comply with financial sustainability regulations but not likely to alter greatly the domestic landscape. Leeds fc are now in debt to them aka glazer style.

  9. I’m in Australia at the moment the game is 11:30pm here. I’ll be sitting up to watch with some local beers and snacks. It’s been odd watching games here at very unfamiliar times. Three points please Celtic.

If you plan to head down bayside way, email me via the Admins and I’ll shout you a brew !

  14. Cheers Quad. Weather was terrible on the road, cold and wet every day!

Very hot in the city today though. We went to the beach and for a swim in the bay.

  15. Good morning from a dry and bright North Staffs.

Happy match day – the Bhoys up first then the Vale at 3pm. Double the angst but hopefully double the pleasure.

Difficult game ahead in the lunch time K.O.

BR will likely freshen the starting eleven using his resources. Would like to see Adam Idah back central in a Kuhn, Idah, Maeda three, and Luke McCowan slotted in, maybe for Reo Hatate. The choice at the back will be to bring a rested Greg Taylor in for Jeff Schlupp.

Any win really does, after you’ve held Munich away from home.

  17. Celtic: Schmeichel, Johnston, Carter-Vickers, Trusty, Taylor, Engels, McGregor, McCowan, Kuhn, Maeda, Idah.

Subs: Sinisalo, Scales, Jota, Yang, Schlupp, Kenny, Hatate, Ralston, Bonnar.
