Premiership takes familiar shape with a green exception

517

It was good to get our business out of the way on Friday night before what turned out to be an interesting weekend, as the Scottish Premiership adopted a familiar look. Aberdeen did well to come from behind away to Ross County. They will not challenge for top spot, but their grip on second place looks to be in rude health.

The major questions is, is there a genuine challenge from Hibs for the remaining European spots? Their win at Ibrox, also coming from behind, suggests Neil Lennon has instilled an important ingredient of success: attitude. Not every opponent will be as defensively porous as Newco. Nor will they always face a self-defeating pantomime of a stadium.

The test for Neil will come when his team faces disciplined defensive formations – like Ross County, the only side who have prevented Hibs from scoring this season.

St Johnstone are the only other team on full points, however, they have the benefit of starting the season earlier than those who didn’t have European football, so I wouldn’t read too much into their wins against Motherwell and Kilmarnock. Their 0-3 League Cup tanking at home to Partick Thistle may be more indicative of the season ahead.

I cant help feeling that we are putting to much on signing young Patrick Roberts at 20 years of age it is a lot of pressure on the player.I dont know what it is with Celtic but I always hope our transfer business will be completed before the C.L. play offs start but I always feel let down when it doesnt happen.Astana will be a very difficult tie and it will be 50/50 on who goes through I would much prefer it if the odds were more in our favour and signing Patrick Roberts today looks out of the question as he is off to Italy with Man.City.We may sign someone else today as our wild card with Danny Ings name being mentioned but I cant help but feel it is all a bit rushed and we are more likely to end up playing the players from our current squad.H.H.

I don’t know, this time could be different. I’m not sure if they have Nandos in Belgium so…

My memories of Belgium are a haze of chips, mayonnaise, beer and chocolate. But you’re right – I didn’t see a Nandos. :-))))))))))

  3. Further on Astana, they no longer have Agim Ibraimi how terrorised our defence when playing for Maribor and scored for Astana against us at CP last season.

Finally Scott McGregor, Possilpark, Glasgow, took the opposite view.

Scott said: “I am a Rangers supporter and I was in the Main Stand at Ibrox on Saturday and I am ashamed to admit the abuse Lennon was subjected to was totally vile.

“I get that Lennon is a hate figure among the Rangers supporters but nobody should have to endure that level of treatment.”

Just did some quick research there. It still seems to be a fully synthetic pitch whereas we will be installing a grass pitch that is reinforced with synthetic fibres (like what Rosenborg had). Hopefully their new pitch plays a lot better than their old one as that was an absolute shocker.

I dont know what you expect Celtic to do.I really dont.Do you think that every time we get hit by injuries,we should go out and blow millions on replacements, who will then sit on the bench when Dembele is fit again.Same with the CH position. We have 3 at the moment, and Ajer, waiting to break through.

We have been so unlucky with injuries at a vital time.We bought Ntcham, who will be a tremendous asset,Eboue, again,so unlucky.

Sometimes, those are the breaks. The Paddy thing, has been a sideshow for Celtic.Do they hold money back in case City want to sell?.

I agree in the past we have dithered a bit,but not this time.

Lets hope.Wee bonus,we play Killie at home on Saturday.

  15. Not dithered about signings? £30 M at stake and we sign no forward (JH is not any better thn James |Fdorrest or GMS) and no centre half. We should have been buying these with no injuries to IMPROVE The team/squad. With injuries nnot exactly unexpected with these players, we should have bough straight away.

  16. PDS do you here MAn Utd say we have a centre half we had better not sign another in case he gets fed up sitting on the bench…

Did BR not say at the end of last season he’d like another CB? or was it a defender, sadly neither have been purchased, unless you count Hayes as a left wing back, yet……………… injuries aside we’re still novices at CB for European football.

  19. I think too many getting nervous about Astana. They are not a great team. They will be average. We beat them last year in a state of flux.BR just in the door,no idea who he could trust to play,Ronnies team.No time to get his ideas across.Since then the improvement has been incredible from the team that beat them last year.

I said before the Rosenborg game,if we turn up,we will win.We did not.Not until the away leg.

Their top players are valued around 1 million. If they were that good, they would not be there.

Any time you are on here you are a pure whinger.Never anything positive to say.Name me a striker who would be CL class that we could afford?.If we signed one where would that leave Griff? In case you have not noticed BR plays 1 up front. So which top class striker would be willing to sit on the bench? Is that logic too hard to grasp?Moult or Walker, would that suit you.At the moment we have 4 CHs.Just how many do you want us to carry?.

    Non stop nonsense.

  24. Brendan Rodgers,a good coach ,but like good managers before him at Celtic, had there hand’s tied behind there back’s, Desmond and Lawell, certainly don’t have the visions of being a Celtic Fan

  27. Does anyone know of the injury situation with our players, Eboue etc. . MD supposedly out until September, are they talking about the 1st or 30th.

Updates from the club on injured players are very patchy and could be more specific.

I wonder if Man City have changed the parameters re Patrick Roberts. The transfer market has gone crazy this summer.

Average players are going for vast sums.

To date Man City have signed, amongst others :-

    Mendy >£49m

    Darilo cira £30m

    Silva cira £43m

    Ederson >£35.5m

    Walker cira £50m

Maybe they have re-evaluated Paddy’s worth.

No matter. IMO the deadline for both SA and PR should be tomorrow.
