Premiership takes familiar shape with a green exception

517

It was good to get our business out of the way on Friday night before what turned out to be an interesting weekend, as the Scottish Premiership adopted a familiar look. Aberdeen did well to come from behind away to Ross County. They will not challenge for top spot, but their grip on second place looks to be in rude health.

The major questions is, is there a genuine challenge from Hibs for the remaining European spots? Their win at Ibrox, also coming from behind, suggests Neil Lennon has instilled an important ingredient of success: attitude. Not every opponent will be as defensively porous as Newco. Nor will they always face a self-defeating pantomime of a stadium.

The test for Neil will come when his team faces disciplined defensive formations – like Ross County, the only side who have prevented Hibs from scoring this season.

St Johnstone are the only other team on full points, however, they have the benefit of starting the season earlier than those who didn’t have European football, so I wouldn’t read too much into their wins against Motherwell and Kilmarnock. Their 0-3 League Cup tanking at home to Partick Thistle may be more indicative of the season ahead.

Does anyone know of the injury situation with our players, Eboue etc. . MD supposedly out until September, are they talking about the 1st or 30th.

Updates from the club on injured players are very patchy and could be more specific.

Totally agree.Have said this before. Our PR to the fans is shocking, especially with injuries.

Not dithered about signings? £30 M at stake and we sign no forward (JH is not any better thn James |Fdorrest or GMS) and no centre half. We should have been buying these with no injuries to IMPROVE The team/squad. With injuries nnot exactly unexpected with these players, we should have bough straight away.

    MARADOMINIC on 14TH AUGUST 2017 1:35 PM

PDS do you here MAn Utd say we have a centre half we had better not sign another in case he gets fed up sitting on the bench…

Here he comes again the most frustrated man on here apart from neganon. I honestly think both need a women to take all that frustration away or perhaps a man

If Gamboa had more game time, he might have played RB on Wednesday, with Lustig at CB…

    …………………………..

BADA mate, what about young Ralston ( The TANK) at right back and Lustig at CB ?

Maybe Brendan will go with that ?

If Brendans really stuck, I played Centre Half….very occasionly 35 years ago. LOL.

    HH

  4. no,no,no, please no Lustig at CB.

ML has been an excellent servant to our team over the years but is now struggling to keep up at right back always looking for the easy inside pass option to SB and not giving us those strong darting runs up the right wing, agree that if C Gamboa was fit he would be right back or give young ralston a go.

  5. I remember Big Sutton playing at CB at Ipox one day….Celts won….and Big Chris played with his hands in his feckin pockets…?

Seriously, i believe that if our midfield and strikers are on their game ( why shouldn’t they be ?), and with The Celtic Warrior KT up and down the left….and Mickeal up and down on the right ( maybe young Ralston ?)…..we can finish this tie off at Celtic Park ?

No disrespect to Astanta….but when the Invincibles are on their game…..naebody can feckin touch em !

Okay I may be slightly biased noo and again.

    COYBIG.

  6. I still love Ashley Judd.

I posted about a Canadian actress called Suzanne Lloyd…………..not to be with Brit Actress Sue Lloyd who was in feckin Crossrroads and the movie “The Stud”.

I only went to see The Stud, to ensure that I wasn’t getting both actress’s mixed up ….ahem.

Canadian Suzanne Lloyd made Brit Sue Lloyd look like Michael Mols wife !

  9. I see Imperial Bears are involved in the Club 1872 campaign to #Change The (Daily)Record.

Funnily enough Glibby’s cohorts seem happy with the BBC. The Editor of the Record isn’t flavour of the month.

Imperial Bears are co-ordinating contacts with advertisers in the tabloid to ‘starve the Trinity Group of advertising money.’

Surely the time is approaching for a halt to be drawn to this dangerous escalating madness.

A dreadful attempt to silence the media and distort the narrative.

I see that today’s story in the Record regarding the most recent threats made against NFL is credited only to a ‘Record Reporter.’

    Why?

Are the toxic shower currently operating out of Ibrox really worth the hassle for £10m?

  10. Lustig has been a worry for me for a while.Great servant, but that was then.OK in the SPL,but not sure about Europe.

Young Ralston needs to come in sooner than later.A beast of a bhoy.If KT can do it,so can he.C,mon Brendan.

  11. Arnold Clark is deid….just like the Ranjurs…………….don’t think he will feel anything ?

Maybe someone should tell the imperial bears that ?

  12. Turkeybhoy on 14th August 2017 2:43 pm

This could be the transition season where Lustig passes over the right back role to Ralston. Lustig will play the European games, and the ‘bigger’ domestic games but Ralston will still get 20+ games to show what he can do over a more sustained period. If Ralston develops as quickly as KT, Lustig may become back up centre half (although I think that role may become Ajer’s this season)

  13. Sevco are doomed to, at best, mediocrity, and, possibly, oblivion. I say this with regret because Celtic need honest competition in the SPL to push them to greater heights. BR also needs that competition to stay interested, long term, in the Scottish game.

Why do I conclude that Sevco’s future is bleak? The post match interview by Pedro was the final straw, and what a sad event it was.

When a club appoints a new manager they are looking to benefit from the fresh ideas and a fresh approach that he brings. What did we hear from Pedro in the interview? The old destructive themes of “we are the people” and “we know about the anti-Sevco bias from refs”………both are tired themes born of the need to control events off the park. Control the media and the football authorities and you influence what happens on the park. Why not simply develop a better team? Poor Pedro, his job matters more than his integrity! He is doomed for the scrap heap no matter what happens. His card was marked after the European exit and it is just a matter of time and finances that will determine when he is gone.

I feel sorry for the man. He is out of his depth both in a footballing sense and in dealing with the worst aspects of a flawed society.

There you have it…..there will be no innovation from Pedro that will influence performance on the park. Other forces will be used to try to gain positive results on the park. We are seeing it now. Nothing has been learned by the blue side of the city. It is the same old hate shop that it was previously. Trouble is, it is Sevco that will suffer most in the long term.

Clogher Celt…that is the modus operandi of fascists and is exactly what is happening here. However, the bold NFL is facing up to them bravely whereas the reporters, or their employers, are scared sh**less…

  17. So you are happy going into the most important games of season with one fit CH and one half fit CF? You don’t mneeed to be a fortune teller…just look at players injury records over last year or so.

  18. PS I assume you don’t bother with a spare tyre in your car a complete waste of money it just sitting there doing nothing

    Totally agree.

We have plenty of cover in midfield and at the full-backs.

We have damn few in central defence or up front.

That’s why we are playing midfielders in those so important roles

It IS a dereliction of duty not to have cover in,especially when those two areas are undermanned in the first place, and that the incumbents are clearly injury-prone.

    Btw,who’s the cover for Gordon?

  22. Maradominic

A spare tyre is unlikely to feel rejected and upset the other tyres.

  23. Starry,

I hope you are correct because BR at Parkhead long term will bring nothing but good things to the club. However, he is an ambitious man and there are a lot of interesting challenges out there. If he is here to increase our profile in Europe, then it is passing strange that he has not been given the resources to remedy, at least, the striking situation prior to Astana, don’t you think?

My comment was more about Sevco than Celtic.

I was watching an old episode of the 1960’s tv show The Saint with the bold Roger Moore in the lead role obviously ( later Ian Ogilvy in the 1970’s/80’s…not so good imo).

There was an actress who I have seen before in other episodes of The Saint, and her name is SUZANNE LLOYD. She was absolutely stunning and very sexy imo.

So I obviously “Googled” Suzanne and lo and behold, she was a Canadian actress, born in Toronto

*so was Avengers babe Tara King/Linda Thorson. Opportunity Knocks host and real da of Paula Yates wisnae although it was always thought he was. He was touring Canada in vaudeville when the war broke out he joined the RCAF and subsequently married a Montreal girl. His own da was fae Glasgow.

  26. Can’t see Roberts coming back or he would be here already, clearly Guardiola doesn’t fancy him and would prefer he goes to a Premier League club to see if he can be a future part of Man City’s squad, or get a better price for him more like.

Armstrong? We’ve hunted better, good player but if he doesn’t sign a new deal by tomorrow I would have him in the squad at all for the Astana game, he’s hardly kicked his arse this season.

Biggest worry for me is Scott Sinclair, he’s been nowhere near it this season and for about the last four weeks of last season.

Is Deadline for signing 11pm tonight?

43.08 For the three qualifying rounds and the play-offs, a club may register a maximum of one new eligible player on List A after the above-mentioned deadlines, provided the quota of locally trained players is respected. Such registration must be completed by 24.00CET on the day before the relevant first-leg match and the club’s association must confirm in writing that the new player is eligible to play at domestic level at this time.

So to be registered to play in either Astana game, paperwork must be done by 11pm tomorrow. PR very unlikely with Citeh playing friendly in Girona tomorrow evening and Paddy in the squad.

Transfer window closes at midnight Thursday 31st August for domestic games though and up to 11pm Friday 1st September for European competition. Bit daft that !

  28. REBUS67

I don’t think it’s a matter of not being given the resources, I think Brendan won’t panic buy just to make the support feel better and in my opinion I would rather he got his targets than us be landed with somebody like Ciftci or God forbid Louis Moult..
