‘PRICE TAG? DON’T EVEN ASK ME,’ LENNY HAILS TALISMAN

NEIL LENNON insists 24-goal Odsonne Edouard has a chance of making the French international squad for the Euro 2020 Finals this summer.

The Celtic boss believes the World Cup winners will be taking notice of the on-fire hitman who has claimed seven strikes in five games since the champions returned to action following the mid-winter break.

Edouard has been in the spotlight with some dazzling displays and his free-kick for the fourth goal against Motherwell at Fir Park in midweek summed up his campaign in one breathtaking moment as his effort whipped up over the wall and ricocheted into the net off the inside of the keeper’s right-hand post.

France, one of the favourites for the tournament, is a nation with rich striking talent such as Kylian Mbappe, Antoine Griezmann and Anthony Martial plus, of course, Edouard’s former Hoops team-mate Moussa Dembele.

Edouard has already proved what he can do at Under-21 international level for his country with an extraordinary 11 goals in just six games.

Lennon, speaking to the Daily Record, said: “It would be a huge shot in the arm for him. Confidence always does a player the world of good. I’m sure they are monitoring him very closely.

FREEWAY TO GLORY…Odsonne Edouard combines accuracy with finesse to score a superb free-kick against Hamilton last week.

“His record with the French Under-21s is excellent, but they are the World Cup winners and have such strength in depth, so I don’t know.

“He’s scored in Old Firm games, Cup Finals and Europe. He’s done all of it. The form he is in is really helping the team. But his record in the big games is outstanding.”

The Parkhead gaffer, preparing his players for tomorrow’s Scottish Cup visit to Broadwood to take on League One part-timers Clyde, acknowledged the champions are likely to be bombarded with offers in the summer for the club’s 22-year-old talisman who arrived in a £9million switch from Paris Saint-Germain in June 2018.

Lennon said: “It’s inevitable he will attract interest. I don’t want to talk about that – I’m in a good mood!

“He could play in most top leagues and for most top teams, no problem at all. His potential is massive.

“He’s not only done it at domestic level, he’s done it at European level, as well.

“A price tag? Don’t even ask me. Leave him be! You’ll have to ask the board what their price on it is.”
