Pride and confidence the target for Celtic

264

Before Barcelona opened the scoring with a 27th minute penalty, Ferencvaros hit the crossbar and had a goal disallowed for offside; incidents that would make it into a season review DVD around these parts.  Messi & Co. eventually won 5-1, but that gap was half that until the final 8 minutes.

The Hungarians are remarkably organised, but that should not have been enough to remain in the Champions League after they left Celtic Park.

I suspect that both Celtic and Milan have bigger fish to fry this week than each other in tomorrow’s Europa League game.  Milan sit atop Serie A with maximum points from four games and face Roma on Monday.  Celtic’s most important game of the week is in Aberdeen on Sunday.  The domestic league, as always, remains paramount.

The biggest prize on offer to Celtic tomorrow is an opportunity to win some pride back.  Aberdeen will be flying after beating Hamilton last night, a result, or performance, against Milan, will go a considerable way to building confidence in a team that looked short on Saturday.

  1. DAVID66..

If you remember my Pet is called “ROCKY” and he is now 14 years old, I am seriously worried about him although he doesnt seem to be in pain since I took him to the Vet a couple of weeks ago and he had Anti Biotics etc

I am ALSO seriously worried about Celtic…as last Saturdays “Display” against the Huns was SHOCKING and very, very Depressing…I am STILL angry about it.

    Stay safe.

    HH.

  2. Well, its match day.

Feels like a free hit tonight. Expectations likely to be low.

Could we see the emergence of an unlikely hero?

    Anything is possible

  3. Going by CQN news feeds, tonight’s going to be a fight in the park or a sacking. Never a dull moment!

  4. The hand of God on

Would have been nice to have seen big Zlatan strutting his stuff at Celtic park tonight (with fans in attendance)…one of the greatest European players of the last 2 decades.Hope we put up a decent show tonight and more importantly I hope Eddy is back for Sunday with Griff partnering him up front.

  5. Don’t know how it works but if anyone is lacking game time / fitness……..I’d give them a run out this evening.

    It can’t hurt can it?

The Dandy Dons game imo is much, much more important.

  6. and I’d try to focus on formation that we will persevere with for the foreseeable………

…and is there any sign of “positive” news form The Dilapidated Edwardian Toilet Block?

  7. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

Hand of God – agree on Zlatan

I remember Martin O’Neill saying Ibrahimovic was overrated. 🤔

To be fair to Martin, I think his point – at the time – was the player’s ego exceeded his effectiveness.

Throughout his career since he has become more effective and slightly less egotistical.

I suspect his unsuccessful spell at Barcelona had something to do with it.

Can you imagine being the unparalleled superstar of the team everywhere you play ….

…. then turning up at a place where 30% of the outfield (Xavi, Messi, Iniesta) are MUCH better footballers than you are?

    Hail hail

  8. If the capitalists are still handing out bike fixing coupons anywhere reputable in the south side of Glasgow I’ve two rides that need repaired. Help!

  9. In case anyone is has other things on their mind than Neil Lennon’s demeanor when looking into the lens of a camera in an empty video press conference here’s Milan’s probable line up for tonight:

    4-2-3-1

They’re missing one of their best players – their Turkish attacking midfielder – otherwise it’s their first team

Pioli, their coach, says he’s taking this competition very seriously, they want to win it, and they want to win the group a quickly as possible. He said he admires Macgregor.

From reading the article I thought Pioli seemed like he’d had a good breakfast and had had relations with his wife in the previous 3 days

There is a Bike Shop on The Saltmarket very near The Old Shipbank Pub ( 30 yards away ).

Its also very near the High court which is sited behind the Bike shop.

I am not sure, but maybe they do Bike repairs ?

Willy Bains, Pollokshaws Road is a repair shop rather than retail

when i was into cycling in the 80s, i use to go to Billy Bilslands in Saltmarket to look at very expensive bkes and maybe buy an inner tube. Had a signed ‘king of the mountains’ top from Robert Millar on the wall.

  13. Big Jimmy – sorry to hear about wee Rocky, hope he pulls through. Try and keep your chin up.

Yes the black ash parks in Royston were Glenconnor or the Coup to the local’s.

Heard it was all the incinerated rubbish from the Royal, shooooorely that cannot be true.

How have the Huns as a club not been touched by Covid, a lot of clubs in our own league have been hit and so have clubs in europe and england

DAVID. They are playing LIEGE in BELGIUM which is the worst infected city in EUROPE.

Now not wishing anyone harm is not the same as not wishing them any good.

  16. Tonight would be a huge ask at any time but we will still be missing a few key players and we are not in the best of form so the odds are stacked against us.

A brave gutsy performance is called for, if we get that I for one will be satisfied regardless of the scoreline.

  17. Corkcelt,

Same here fella. I’ll be staring at the telly in the hope that at least application is there.
