Prima Facie Day!

865

Prima facie day is here!  Neil Doncaster spent weeks telling us that the SPL had yet to establish if Rangers had a prima facie case to answer in connection with the alleged illegal registration of players.  Today he confirmed to the SPL board and the media that they do indeed have a case to answer.

Rangers Employee Benefit Trusts have been the source of considerable controversy since 2010 when it emerged that HMRC had taken action against the club, at the time claiming in the region of £24m.  EBTs had been recorded on Rangers accounts for a decade without much comment, so there was no reason to assume the club had made payments to players out-with the oversight of the football authorities.

On 22 February this year Celtic Quick News asked the question, were these EBT payments recorded with the SFA, or did Rangers hide them?  There was little reason for the club to hide them, unless, perhaps, they had something to else hide, which was beginning to look the case.

Today we have our answer.  Whatever is left of what some regard to be Rangers FC will be subject to some of the most severe disciplinary procedures levelled in the history of football.  Appropriate penalties for subverting the game for over a decade are impossible to define.

Celtic fans are not the only ones to lose from this illegal registration of players but they suffered significantly.  Five league titles went to Rangers, in 2003, 2005, 2009, 2010 and 2011.  All of these titles will be stripped from Rangers records and awarded to Celtic.

You can look forward to 12-in-a-row day soon, which is simply, CHAMPION!

Personally I’d prefer no penalties be imposed upon Sevco. They’re a brand new football club with no history and so deserve to be treated like any other: let them apply to the SFL Division 3 and take it from there.

As for Rangers FC (In Administration) let them face the full force of the rightful retribution for their years of misdeeds. Adjust the result of every relevant match to 0-3 and re-award leagues accordingly. Leave the Cup competitions with no winners, unless the first such cup game each season that RFCIA played an ineligible player was the final itself.

And while they can’t be punished as a club going forward for the disrepute charge or for taking the SFA to court, make such that any individuals who were in positions of responsibility are suitably punished for any misdeeds which they were responsible for.

I can’t believe there are still people posting on here thinking they can wriggle out of this…………………..sweep it under the carpet!!!! they can’t it’s all in the open now…………..their club is dead and this is the nail which stops the zombie opening the coffin and climbing out…………….any new club formed will be applying for the vacant space in the third division…AT BEST

“Surely the NewCo can’t be stripped of league titles etc as they don’t have any?”

It has nothing to do with ‘Newco’. Rangers will have the titles stripped from their records. As you say Servco have won nothing – they are not even one week old.

  6. Can’t believe this circus…..

This dithering is starting to impact –

    – The joy of being Champions in the close season.

    – The anticipation of the challenge for next seasons honours.

    – The debate over merits of potential new signings.

This has been caused by one ex-club, and the whole of Scotland awaits a decision from bodies that are not fit of their charge of governance – after all, being promoted from within,in accordance with their institutionalised bigotry.

Is anyone else not tiring of this emotional rollercoaster?, I am absolutely sick of this, as make no mistake, It is Celtic who are being punished here.

I understand that ducks have to be lined up, until the big boys can push the nuclear button on the cheats, but I feel I’m being denied the pleasure of even celebrating my champions in the meantime because of this fixation on the cheats.

Soon the new season will be upon us – and I hope we have enough puff left to cheer on “The” Celtic.

C’mon Scottish Football Association – Do what’s right – for the lifeblood of the game.

Good post. Suitable punishments for Ragers (deceased) and this newclub whatever it’s called joins Spartans in the que. We have to emphasise that these are two distinct enetities at every opporyunity. They were still talking about the ‘o^d f^rm’ on STV news FFS.

  9. The only proper punishment for any team that systematically cheats year in year out is Sine Die. That should also apply to any director of the tarnished club during the period of cheating. Players who knowingly cheated should be compelled to return all medals and application should be made to uefa for all international honours (or caps) to be struck from the record. No player with an EBT who understood the tax evasion when payment was a contractual right should ever play for their national team again.

Then and only then will football in Scotland be clean again.

And to think those radio phone in buffoons called us paranoid.

The information i have is that Motherwell will almost certainly vote yes for Newco

Their Chief Executive will see to that

    —————-

    That is disappointing.

  11. Auld Neil Lennon heid on

One thought after reading the Motherwell statement, if UEFA who are loaded, really want to see sporting integrity why do’nt they offer some form of “cushion” for SPL clubs? It could be in the form of a soft loan to be paid back over a number of years from the money the likes of Motherwell will earn from playing in UEFA competition?

I’d even go so far as to suggest that such people should be prevented from having any official connection to any other club in Scottish football. Or indeed the national association itself, Mr Oglivie…

  16. @Charvey17: That will be a ‘yes’ to newco from @MotherwellFC then. F off. No point in the ‘fans forum’ club have made up their mind.

  17. Disgraceful from Motherwell. However I did not expect anything different.

How can they advocate voting yes without having a clue about the numbers and blatantly disregarding fans views…..

I have to support anyone who talks of bhoycoting these types, however too many dimwits in our support would not ‘hold the line’ and we would just end up looking stupid sadly.

I noticed the other day Kenny Shiels urging that the 4 July vote be by secret ballot. Is there anything in the rules abotu how such a vote should be conducted, and if there’s no explicit instructions then who decides on the day how it is carried out? One hesitates to sound like Sally but is there a possibility that we might not know the identities of who votes which way?

  20. Auld Neil Lennon heid on

Further thought, Rangers are not part of the fabric of Scottish society, they are a rather unwelcome pattern on that fabric.

Football is the fabric and if Alex Salmond was so concerned about saving Rangers how about the SG coming up with some dosh to save the game?

(That is what they call a snooker in politics) ;)

  21. Magnificentseven,

why would you be so sure,to me their statement reads that they know they should’nt,and know the fans don’t want them to,but they are voting for them nontheless

Only the Celtic board can now push for these lost titles, they need to start making some noise. Over on fandango fandango there already talking about adding titles they won during WW2 to up there count, there really not right at all that mob, also says there march on Saturday has been cancelled. Surely if there’s proof of the huns cheating from 99 onwards they must investigate before then, If proof was found for there 9 In a row there was cheating then it would break my heart to think that Tommy Burns was cheated out of a title and that same scumbag who was involved In cheating him out of it was carrying his coffin at his funeral, being that It’s the huns it shouldn’t really surprise though.

  24. Does anyone else feel, RFC(dead) and the authorities, are trying to bankrupt all other fans with continuous reasons to celebrate.

Surely there is a case for assistance from UEFA to the SPL to help avoid a scenario whereby the perpetrators of a great wrong are rewarded due to the enormous extent of the impact on the victims.

Some kind of bridging loan to the league from UEFA to help clubs even out the projected loss from no “Rangers” and reductions in TV revenue should be requested. The SPL clubs need to be able to make a decision based on the evidence alone viewed through the lens of sporting fair play and integrity, and not on the basis of “what is the impact on me financially” – this is a disciplinary matter.

Paul 67. The work you have carried out on behalf of us as supporters is nothing short of outstanding and really should be recognised at some stage by not only us but by our board. I know there’s even more to come but you really should take a bow. I sometimes have to pinch myself that we find ourselves in what is, other than 1967, our strongest ever position and that is in no small part down to you. We all know there is no financial gain for you. The charity work you also do is not recognised outside of this blog but is equally important. Well done Paul for your endeavour and non stop hard graft. I’ve always been a Celtic fan but I don’t ever remember feeling as proud to be one. Thanks. HH.
