I cannot fathom why someone would leak their intentions to quit as chairman of a football club. Either Walter Smith is sufficiently alarmed by the conduct of his club to resign, or he should be busy working to resolve matters. Leaking that he intends to resign will surely only add to the nonsense that surrounds the club.
Some will believe that Smith, who accepted the position as chairman of Rangers International when season tickets went on sale in May, can shuffle of the scene now 34,000 tickets have been sold. Shareholder votes will determine the future of the club, in this instance, the identity of the chairman has little reach beyond parting fans with their cash.
Some investors may consider a more immediate problem is why the club are burning a hugely disproportionate amount of cash to secure promotion from the third tier of Scottish football, and why a management structure is not in place to deploy resources more effectively.
In light of Francisco Sandaza’s off-the-cuff comments to Tommy in Glasgow, and his subsequent dismissal by Rangers International, we urge Mr McCoist to be more cautious than he was after his team’s spirited, but ultimately fruitless, performance in Forfar on Saturday. It would be unfortunate if McCoist transgressed a condition of employment and suffered accordingly.
Advertising Standards Authority ruling withdrawn
It doesn’t rain but it pours. The Independent Review Process of the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has looked into the ASA’s recent, and widely reported, ruling on Rangers International’s claim on football titles won by a liquidated club. The Review found that “it was a procedural flaw for the ASA to have relied on an extract only of a report sent to it by the advertiser”.
Further, the review process ruled that “there was also the risk of a substantial flaw of adjudication in the distinction that had been made between ‘club’ and ‘company’, especially in the light of previous ASA decisions about companies that change hands and the circumstances in which the new company could or could not trade off the reputation of the old company”.
The Chairman of the ASA, Lord Smith of Finsbury, as decided to reopen the ASA’s investigation into the case and to withdraw the published adjudication, which favoured the advertiser. Withdrawing this adjudication does not infer that a different outcome will subsequently be reached. To use a football analogy, it’s half time and they’re all square.
An interesting, and potentially critical part of the story, is that after the initial ASA decision was issued, the club’s web site noted that their submission to the process included information that a “panel of the London Stock Exchange” supported their claim.
The Stock Exchange subsequently appeared surprised at this assertion, so much so that the club promptly withdrew the claim from the web article.
“You’re history, that’s what you are, na na na na”.

I know what you say is true, but I’d warrant side to side bouncing wasn’t one of the envisaged scenarios. So I was just suggesting that perhaps the potential for long term minor effects cumulating into something that need monitored was there.
I met a guy that worked for Norman Foster. I’m sure you’re aware that they had a bit of bother with the Millenium Bridge. This was as the result of the previously unrecognized action of pedestrians synching with the wave length of movement in the bridge. I think he said that three brand new engineering principles came about as the result of that. All through an unforseen effect of human interaction with the built environment.
As if the Zombies are not confused enough – ‘Mad’ David Leggat (copyright Jack Irvine) claims his ole pal Challs is a front man for his other ole pal Ahmad.
It seems like only yesterday that ‘the Sevco version of Phil Mac Giolla Bhain” (copyright Jack Irvine … and how that must stick in the craw) was eulogising about these fine upstanding individuals.
The Legless Loon – I reckons he changes his opinions more than his underpants.

Just getting somewhat miffed about this slap on the wrist form of punishment becoming the norm with that lot!
Even the sanctions they have had, such as fines and transfer embargoes, have been blatantly ignored.
They have pi..ed over every rule, law and regulation, and will continue to do so until someone has the steel to treat them appropriately.
Not holding my breath for it though.
Ah well. My attempt to get tomorrow`s game to be the topic for conversation has failed miserably 0:-)

I never mentioned the Green Brigade, let’s make it like this Kev, I won’t comment on anything you post again until you grow a pair and admit when you have posted completely unfounded rumours about the Celtic Support which by the way were refuted by a London based Tim, a regular poster on here whose company I’ve been in several times that he saw or heard about nothing untoward at the Brentford game and agreed that had those songs been sung the atmosphere would have been very very different….
Is it too much of a generalisation to say that Celtic supporters do not like authority?
That the rebel instinct flows strong through the veins of the support?
Is it not so much the authority, in this case the Board, are exercising their authority and disputing that H&S is the reason or an excuse , is simply the manifestation of rebellion against authority?
If the authority have a rule that says no lateral movement and have made obeying that rule a condition of keeping 111 and can withdraw the 111 facility, then they do not need the H&S excuse or reason depending on how one sees it, being the authority inside the ground they can simply exercise that authority because they are the authority and wish to stay so.
The GB in not obeying the request re no laterals are simply challenging authority not because they want to have lateral movement but because challenging authority is part of the make up of the Celtic support.
And the Celtic support then wade in,some to challenge authority, others to support it.
The solution is pretty straight forward, follow the rules set down if they are not unreasonable.
The reason is that a seated stadium is not designed for standing so a request not to stand is not an unreasonable one.
If enough supporters wish to stand during a game then make the case. Get enough who wamt the same to make standing a condition of attending.
If enough get together then finances will support the idea. If not enough do not cause discord in order to have your wishes take precedence over the majority.
This is not about lateral movement or H&S its about exercising authority and being rebels by nature we do not like it when authority acts, but without the discipline authority brings there would be chaos and most folk recognise that whether they like the authority or not.
It is therefore wise to pick your battles with authority and the battlefield, no point entering a battle that cannot be won.
Gordon-J – save yerself the aggravation – I’ve never seen it like this on here. I’ve written all I am going to on it.
I feel for the GB, the club was in some ways between a rock and a hard place, the bigger issue is perhaps one of social control, sanitisation of football (and working people’s past times in general), the removal of anything remotely counter cultural, the gross over monitoring of what are now very small left wing groups in comparison with any other sector of society and ya d ya de ya de ya……..
I think this one is outwith Celtic or the GB’s control. It’s all part of the myopic, compliant society we have become. Wider calls for standing room are probably the best that can come from this situation.
It’s going to cause turmoil for a while. However if we get it right on the park on Weds night it will die down for a while.
In the grand scheme of things this is like a family member of ours playing their music too loud and keeping their room in a way that is not tolerable to the parents. It’s causing all kinds of hassle. But then you hear about the neighbours who have a succession of temporary ‘dads’ around the place, the kids are all on crack and involved in so much anti social behaviour it’s a wonder they are allowed out, the mother is terminally ill, they’ve no cash and the house is in need of so much repair it’s only a matter of time until the bank comes and takes it off them.
Things urny that bad for Celtic.
John O Neil:
Twice I gave you the opportunity to explain your post of 09.45, twice you declined. It leaves me to conclude that your post was a crock of **** and you didn’t have a clue what you were posting about. Rather feeble of mind if you ask me.
Or did you just want to look important or did you just want to see your name on the blog or did you just have absolutely nothing better to do with your time, if the latter is the case, they you have my deepest sympathy and sincere condolences. (sic)
Can’t help being in a good mood. I’m a day closer to seeing Celtic play again.
As for all the angst re Green Brigade Health and Safety Public Liability and simple commonsense it does seem to me that powers that be generally seem to have lost sight of some basic things.
As a youngster I went to watch Celtic in the first instance because I loved football. I didn’t go to join a political movement but I was absorbed and entranced by the colour and vibrancy of chants, songs, good humour and generally letting steam off in the good company of my pals. It was all part of the coming of age ritual for me and something I’m more than glad I was able to enjoy. As such I think I can understand what those who congregate in the 111 area are about but unfortunately for them times have changed. It is not the Jungle and can’t be treated as such. It is not 1960. It is 2013. Society has changed. That’s just an unpalatable and in some cases a necessary and welcome fact.
How then can we accommodate the vibrancy and exuberance of youth in a safe and acceptable manner?
It is surely obvious that crowds at football matches in Scotland do not warrant all- seater stadiums. Much larger crowds are safely accommodated in safe standing areas in German grounds so why is that not possible here? Personally I think that standing areas at the lowest level behind the goals would be beneficial and would be an enhancement in atmosphere and a huge benefit in reducing cost for clubs and spectators alike. the only downside I see in the case of Celtic and its supporters is the practical fact that UEFA will not allow these to be used for their matches.
As for the supposed conspiracy by Celtic against the Green Brigade I can’t help but feel the argument is undermined by the fact that the Club arranged to provide this area and made it happen. Those who occupy it have in the main been a great benefit to all via their colour noise and inventive displays but I’m afraid they have to learn that when it comes to Rules you don’t win by ignoring them. You can only work to change them or your own circumstances.. I see Celtic Plc as being in a no win situation vis a vis those who have power to issue the license and am not surprised by the action taken.
I do feel that if there is any goodwill left then it should be applied to working to provide a safe standing area at ground level where movement lateral or otherwise will not endanger others.
Young people are the future of the game. Its high time that those in charge of the game in Scotland took note to create an environment that encourages youth to congregate in safety in a controlled environment where they can help to make watching football part of the pleasurable experiences of growing up.

macjay1 for Neil Lennon:
And assuming I am right (just assuming because I don’t have the book to hand) is it not a case of Goose and Gander when people object to the Russian invasion of Czechoslovakia whilst others, just as sincere and principled, but not on the board but every which way an equitable Celtic supporter, object to the invasion of Iraq?
If the board play politics then don’t be surprised if educated supporters do likewise.
I,for one, think that the invasion of Iraq was a shocking mistake.
But,what`s that got to do with Celtic?
Re.Czechoslovakia.
Geopolitics and party politics. That`s one distinction.
Board political decision 45 years ago.Supporters political decisions for the last 5 or so years. That`s another distinction.
The most damaging aspect of the G.B. is that they have created division amongst ourselves.
There is surely a basic principle at stake here.
If you accept the entitlement of the G.B. to express their political preferences with banner and song, then you must accept the right of ANY other group of ANY other political preference to do likewise.
I don`t have to spell out the possible upshot of that scenario.
Personally,I find the placement of image of Che Guevara on the white portion of the flag of the Republic of Ireland offensive in the extreme.
Now,my understanding is that the white was designed to represent peace between the orange and the green.Whether that is a fact or not,it,for me is offensive.
As offensive as it would be to see the face of Stalin or Hitler there.
Do people really know the shocking legacy of Che and his manual of urban terrorism.
The murderous Sendero Luminoso, the murder of Aldo Moro,by the Red Brigades, the Baader Meinhof gang?
What does all the baggage have to do with Celtic?
The big question in relation to the G.B.?
Whose agenda are they pushing?
For what purpose?

I don’t think there’s any way Lenny will pitch Myoukolo into tomorrow night’s game. It will be the tried and tested to withstand to trials and tests of the match.
It’s all so reminiscent of last season’s early campaign. An early goal for Celtic, like Kris Commons’ volley at Helsingborgs, would calm the old nerves.

Very good!!
A Stor. Your tetchy posts are not needed. You don’t seem capable of conversing in a cival manner. I said nothing rude to you.
Auldheid:
Yes I think it is too much of a generalisation. From my experience Celtic supporters have been subjected to some prejudiced policing over the years, the issue today is are Celtic being complicit in the prejudiced policing.
As I said earlier, all those calculations are kept on record, if there is any concern about the structural safety of the stadium due the massive load factors produced by the Green Brigade then these calculations can easily be brought out, checked and re-calculated with all up to date info.
Once done you can strike all concerns about structural safety and move on to who broke the seats, and then, maybe, why were police present in the toilets at the huns game and did nothing whilst the toilets were destroyed, and why is video evidence being used against the Green Brigade for dancing whilst very clear video evidence of huns wrecking the toilets at Parkhead are not being used to bring those who vandalised Celtic property to court and account?
Celtic to GB: If you want 111 to stay open, don’t do lateral movement at the Ross County game.
GB:
Nobody to blame but themselves.

You continually state you will stop buying your choice of tabloid if the board decide to ban it – which makes no sense on any level.
It’s your decision on what you read – but at least take responsibility for that when people pull you up about it instead of trying to implicate the Celtic board in the matter.
You read it and you phone it because you want to. Just accept it. You are old enough to make your own decisions.
An Stor, I normally would say that I don’t keep interacting with people who remain rude but for you I make an exception.
