Principled resignations, ASA withdraw adjudication

1739

I cannot fathom why someone would leak their intentions to quit as chairman of a football club.  Either Walter Smith is sufficiently alarmed by the conduct of his club to resign, or he should be busy working to resolve matters.  Leaking that he intends to resign will surely only add to the nonsense that surrounds the club.

Some will believe that Smith, who accepted the position as chairman of Rangers International when season tickets went on sale in May, can shuffle of the scene now 34,000 tickets have been sold.  Shareholder votes will determine the future of the club, in this instance, the identity of the chairman has little reach beyond parting fans with their cash.

Some investors may consider a more immediate problem is why the club are burning a hugely disproportionate amount of cash to secure promotion from the third tier of Scottish football, and why a management structure is not in place to deploy resources more effectively.

In light of Francisco Sandaza’s off-the-cuff comments to Tommy in Glasgow, and his subsequent dismissal by Rangers International, we urge Mr McCoist to be more cautious than he was after his team’s spirited, but ultimately fruitless, performance in Forfar on Saturday.  It would be unfortunate if McCoist transgressed a condition of employment and suffered accordingly.

Advertising Standards Authority ruling withdrawn

It doesn’t rain but it pours.  The Independent Review Process of the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has looked into the ASA’s recent, and widely reported, ruling on Rangers International’s claim on football titles won by a liquidated club. The Review found that “it was a procedural flaw for the ASA to have relied on an extract only of a report sent to it by the advertiser”.

Further, the review process ruled that “there was also the risk of a substantial flaw of adjudication in the distinction that had been made between ‘club’ and ‘company’, especially in the light of previous ASA decisions about companies that change hands and the circumstances in which the new company could or could not trade off the reputation of the old company”.

The Chairman of the ASA, Lord Smith of Finsbury, as decided to reopen the ASA’s investigation into the case and to withdraw the published adjudication, which favoured the advertiser.  Withdrawing this adjudication does not infer that a different outcome will subsequently be reached.  To use a football analogy, it’s half time and they’re all square.

An interesting, and potentially critical part of the story, is that after the initial ASA decision was issued, the club’s web site noted that their submission to the process included information that a “panel of the London Stock Exchange” supported their claim.

The Stock Exchange subsequently appeared surprised at this assertion, so much so that the club promptly withdrew the claim from the web article.

“You’re history, that’s what you are, na na na na”.

The leaders of the Green Brigade are full of their own importance and not very bright. They’ve been warned repeatedly over safety issues but paid no heed. Their stupid, inflammatory language in their arrogant statements says it all. No-one but themselves to blame.

  5. The Celtic choir will be an unmitigated disaster like all ‘corporate entertainment’ at CP. We already have a disaster of a PA announcer who will probably deafen the majority (certainly in the South Stand) and the monotonous dirge that they call atmosphere music pre match.

  6. I would have thought that the Green Brigade would have issued any statement on their own website first i.e. announcing it to their own members first.

I find this story just a little too convenient in terms of timing and subject. The one subject which would split the club and supporters right down the middle is harassment of Green Brigade.

I could be wrong, and frequently am according to the wife, but this one stinks worse than last weeks fish.

  11. Green Brigade Section Disbanded

Posted on August 5, 2013 by admin

The Green Brigade are disappointed to announce that our section in 111 is to be closed by Celtic Football Club. Pathetically, this is due to ‘lateral movement’ which has been deemed ‘unsafe’ by the club’s directors. Our group and section has continually made concessions and strived to be co-operative with the club over various safety concerns so we are left dismayed that such drastic and immediate action has been taken over such a trivial and harmless movement.

The group is currently seeking legal advice and will consult with those in our section over the coming days. A detailed statement shall be released over the next few days and we’d advise all within our section to take no action until we have had the opportunity to discuss our options together. We would like to stress that this is not the end of the Green Brigade. Decisions and hurdles like these will only strengthen our group’s resolve. We would like to thank the Celtic support who have continually backed, funded and inspired our group from our formation to the present day and can assure you that none of this support will have been in vain.

    Until the last rebel.

Just read back…..if the Safety Certificate is (justifiably) at risk….and if the GB have been repeatedly briefed on this risk, then their ‘leadership’ need to review their strategy of defiance ….off to read the official site etc

La Boqueria market on right halfway down Ramblas to wards sea for food to gawp at then eat.

Palua Guel on same side and not far from Boqueria. Its the most recent Gaudi work open to public.

At top of Ramblas is Plaza Catalonia and diagonally across Passeig Garcia. Walk up and Casa Batlo is on left. Incredible Guidi building. Further up on right Casa Mila or La Pedera. Another Gaudi job.

Sagrada Familia obviously but get off tour bus at Parc Guell in east of city facing the sea.

You should be Gaudied out by then but she will be so grateful a visit to Nou Camp will be gratefully permited.

A standing area is the answer but I don’t know what the appetite is within the corridors of power for such a venture. Section 111 is now actually too small for the numbers who want to be there. I’d love a standing section behind the goal in the Lisbon Lions stand packed with noise and colour.

  27. If its true about section 111 – then they only have themselves to blame

It was stated very clearly that the lateral movement had to stop

To engage in this so soon after such a warning is either stupidity or arrogance

Either way the club cannot allow their safety certificate to be put at risk by spoiled brats – because that’s the way they are behaving

They are like the kids at school who just will not take a telling but need to go on their own sweet way no matter the cost to others!

Last night Charlotte was talking about the safety certificate at the Rustbucket being called in to question

Should such a thing happen then there will be much greater scrutiny of other clubs by the MSM – seems the numpties in 111 feel they are the story rather than the team!

The Boqueria just off Las Ramblas is widely regarded as one of the best food markets in the world.

You can also eat and drink there in one of several tapas bars inside, if you can get near them for the tourists.

  30. I see that some are very quick to criticize Celtic re the Green Brigade.

I see that others are bemoaning the fact that if the Section 111 doesn’t create atmosphere, then there will be none.

Time for a discussion on Responsibility.
