‘PRIVILEGED’ POSTECOGLOU ACCEPTS RESPONSIBILITY

ANGE POSTECOGLOU admits he feels “privileged every day” to be manager of Celtic.

However, the Greek-Australian gaffer acknowledges there is also a relentless responsibility to produce silverware at the club.

Postecoglou will lead out the Hoops in the Premier Sports League Cup Final against Hibs at Hampden tomorrow afternoon and is well aware of the expectation levels that rest on his shoulders to deliver his first piece of silverware as the team’s chief following his arrival in June.

The 56-year-old boss said: “It’s an honour for me just to be in this position looking at the people who have graced this position before me. Absolutely. That’s where the privilege lies for me.

“Sunday is more of a responsibility than a privilege because, when you do take this position, that’s what you are expected to do.

“To get this club to the big occasions and bring success to it. That’s the precedent that’s been set. I feel privileged every day I’m in this position. On Sunday, I’ll feel the responsibility of trying to bring success to this football club and continuing the great traditions of the managers of the past.”

Postecoglou now has the luxury of being able to concentrate on the showpiece occasion with seven games between now and the 1-0 semi-final success over St Johnstone on November 20 when substitute James Forrest fired in the winner.

The Hoops boss, speaking to the Daily Record, added: “Because of what we’ve been through, the challenges we’ve had in terms of injuries and so many games, it’s served us well to keep the head down and focus on the next fixture.

“Coming in on Friday, though, was our first day after the Ross County game and we could start preparing for the Final.

“The excitement is there and I’m looking forward to it. It’s why I came to this football club, to hopefully create some success and some memories for it. This is the first opportunity.

“I really enjoyed the atmosphere in the semi-final at Hampden and I’m sure tomorrow’s game will be a fantastic occasion.

“It’s an opportunity to have success, that’s why I came and I’m immensely looking forward to it.”
