Profitable transfer fantasies

761

Neil Lennon did us all a favour yesterday by dismissing rumours that he was targeting a striker from Vitoria Guimaraes as nonsense this early in the transfer window. The guidelines are set for your summer ahead. As well as being nonsense, though, it is also profitable news fodder; just think of the amount of advertising which has been wrapped around this story.

What does this teach us? I reckon that the least informed contributions left on the CQN comments page are about as reliable as what passes for mainstream ‘news’. There is a good possibility that even the player didn’t know Celtic’s position on him until it was reported yesterday.

Celtic will be trailing up to 30 players at any point in time, all of whom will have passed one level of scrutiny, but at least 20 of whom would never pass all levels, even if a deal was possible. When players are being scrutinised the position of the club will always be to show courteous interest in proceedings. You and I know what this really amounts to.

Mungolian bhoy – people who get to the highest levels of the game very often have no football background, or if they do it’s at a relatively low level- think David Will at Brechin. Havelange was a water polo player, I think Blatter’s preferred sport was hockey.

And once you get to the top of the greasy pole the perks and kudos are so lucrative you cling on until the corporate tie has to be torn from your cold, dead fingers.

So, like in politics, shame or embarrasment are not reasonable grounds for resignation.

Social media reveals a lot about people.

In days gone by, folk blighted by two surnames would not have been able to share their vile views with anyone other than like-minded individuals closer to home.

  8. I read in earlier posts that green has agreed to sell his shares to laxley at the end of the year. The shares price is at £0.62 today. Most of that price would reflect the value of both Ibrox and Murray Park.

Craig’s boy has just delivered a 330 page document explaining that he is the rightful owner of these assets.

Could someone then explain to me why anyone would buy these shares until the ownership of the main assets is decided. Green has already said it could take 10 yrs to resolve.

    I am confused!

The reason for paying it is because the deal was struck last October.

Not that knowledgable about all this.

Think Green got his share for next to nothing but ties down for a year.

As you say whatever Whyte says could take ten years to resolve in the meantime Laxley will have shifted their shares.

I doubt Laxley have bought them from Green at 62p.

I looked at the Reamonn Gormley memorial hall video again and it struck that it’s amazing what can be achieved if the money collected for charities is not pilfered.

  13. Ambrose victorious as Celts go head-to-head

By: Mark Henderson on 05 Jun, 2013 17:22

EFE Ambrose came out on top in the battle of the international Celts today as he and Victor Wanyama went head-to-head in a World Cup qualifier between Nigeria and Kenya.

A fiercely-fought match in Nairobi looked to be heading for a draw, but the Super Eagles snatched a priceless three points 10 minutes from time with the only goal of the game.

And Ambrose played a pivotal role in breaking the deadlock. Robbing his opponent of possession, he looked up and picked out Ahmed Musa with a raking pass.

The striker raced in behind the Kenya defence and coolly lobbed the ball over the advancing Duncan Ochieng to seal the victory.

It means Ambrose is another step closer to playing at the World Cup in Brazil next summer as Nigeria now lead Group F by two points, with only two games remaining.

For Wanyama and his countrymen, however, there was disappointment as the Harambee Stars are now out of the running for the finals.

    seen this on TSFM site

    ————————-

Noticing some TSFM like digging on RM lately. Some posters do appear to have their head out of the sand and are willing to put it above the parapet. Regarding Charlie’s proposed share sell to Laxey.

Recent RM post on Laxey possibly indicating trouble ahead.

” ….. Another outfit that stirs up trouble in the hope of making a profit is Laxey Partners. Headed by Colin Kingsnorth, Laxey has a succession of victims on its belt, including British Land, where it tried to unseat the property giant’s then head, Sir John Ritblat. Laxey’s ownership can be traced to the Isle of Man but the firm works out of a small office in Jermyn Street. The object of its latest assault is Hirco, the AIM-listed Indian property developer. Hirco is run by the wealthy Hiranandani family.

Laxey holds 10.05% of Hirco and QVT, a fund with which it is closely linked, also has 4.95%. Kingsnorth has called for an emergency shareholders’ meeting to change the seven-strong board. He is demanding that Niranjan Hiranandani, the chairman and father of Priya Hiranandani, the chief executive, resigns and that four “independent” directors are appointed.

It’s not clear what his game plan is but it would come as no surprise if Kingsnorth was pressing for the quick sale of Hirco properties.

He’s argued against what he perceives as the lack of transparency and governance within Hirco. However, of the four new “independents”, one is Andrew Pegge, his Laxey co-founder, another is Michael Haxby, a Laxey executive. A third, Aled Rhys-Jones, runs Celtic Asset Management. Celtic’s chief financial officer, Christopher Bruce, was Laxey’s CFO between 2001 and 2007.

In Switzerland, Laxey is embroiled in a row about secret stakebuilding in Implenia, the country’s biggest building services group. Between late 2006 and 2007, Laxey used different banks to “warehouse” contracts for difference in Implenia. Under Swiss law, holdings in derivatives are subject to the same rules of disclosure as normal shares. Laxey, which denies any transgression, could face criminal prosecution.

Hirco does not need lectures from Laxey. And if we’re serious about the City learning lessons and moving forward, we should take a long, hard look at Laxey and its fellow activists. …..”
