Promotion and relegation

Raith Rovers finished a comfortable second in the Championship and pushed Dundee United for the title until late in the season, so they deserve a crack in the Premiership playoff tie against Ross County.  Raith have a greater fan base than County, so if they get their act together, should in theory offer more to the top flight.  They are also not located at the farthest reaches of the land…..

While County could he heading into the Championship, the biggest team in the Highlands, Inverness, drop out of the division after losing their playoff against Hamilton Accies.

Just a year ago, Inverness kept their hopes alive in the Scottish Cup Final against Celtic until the final few minutes.  In September they sacked Billy Dodds and appointed Duncan Ferguson, but the former Rangers strikers contrived to see the club relegated to the third their for the first time in quarter of a century.   Ferguson declined to offer his resignation.

Seeing Stevie Nicks mentioned reminds me of the one about her proposed marriage to William Shatner falling through as he insisted upon her incorporating his surname into her professional name but she refused to be known as Stevie Shatner Nicks.

I should know better but, even in this day and age, it amazes me how often Scottish football clubs still go staunch …. hiring unintelligent, inexperienced, unqualified types because they turned out for a certain club.

    Rarely ends well.

    When will people learn?

Cyberspace still full of incredible images of the faithful in Trongate on Saturday afternoon.

    Great images.

The behaviour of a tiny minority is disappointing. Self policing sounds good and sometimes works but personal responsibility should be the driver.

As for impacted businesses, I have some sympathy.

Having your property damaged is not acceptable.

(I have a suspicion though that the financial impact is sometimes overplayed … Celtic (unlike Sevco) have money … and the SMSM will happily carry your torch – so worth a punt).

Perhaps when Celtic and GCC next meet the “fan zone” should be near the top of the agenda.

    🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

MCPHAIL BHOY- a lot of good points there, ticket prices are too high all round I would say, some clubs try hard,I think Motherwell do 2 free kids entry with 1 adult ST,or certainly used to,the empty stands when you have thousands wanting to get in,is a conundrum, safety, segregation, home team ST holders who won’t give up their seat to move elsewhere etc etc

  13. calling BRRB,

SO MY SLIGO ENQUIRY IS –

i enjoy very much your travel escapades and the randomness of where you will pop up on any given trip.

last week you mentioned ELPHIN, which I thought was in Roscommom, and then Carrick on Shannon and Stokestown.

So the year before covid I visited Ballmahon, the Centreparcs, which was quite an exceptional holiday, our weans old enough to look after themselves spent the days at the pool, we in turn ventured out to Athlone, Roscommon , Longford and several dozen places in between.

I bitterly regret we didnt have longer, and very much wanted to visit Sligo, for the ancestorl Higgins locations at Ballynary, which coveniantly would have also let me go through Ballymote, I really wanted to see the Walfrid memorial.

I also missed out on Galway bay, uncle paddys party piece at all the family gatherings, I just wanted to say i had been there.

So, back to Elphin, did you know it is only 15 kms to the sligo border, you could have been there in no time, and ticked off another one of the 32.

    As a ps,

yesterday someone was trying to locate and Andrew from Antrim, aged 68 who he met at the match on saturday.

I know an Andrew from Antrim who comes over for the games, but he is only 67, so it wont be him

Sevco not hanging about, Butland replacement in already, Liam Kelly……thankfully, was linked with us

  15. Given the Scottish Football structures are enjoying their highest ever average attendances it is hard to tell them they need to allow Celtic supporters in to enjpy the party days.

I worked with Motherwell, Saints, Killie, Morton and Partick supporters.

Amongst them there was no Rangers are really my team and I just go along to the diddy club cos of the weans.

They are bona fide supporters of their clubs first.

It could be argued, the demise of the original rangers, the FFP rules, the COVID season and even ground relocations has seen different thoughts about how to run your own club.

Firstly – right size to the reality of the revenue streams.

Secondly – put your own supporters/ciustomers first.

Thirdly – do not try and compete if all it means is spending borrowed money.

Saints for me are a really well run club, With a smaller stadium that is 4/5 full for most matches, so they dont have the overhead of an unused capacity (like kilie).

I look forward to the attendnace figures being released.

Celtic will again be 58,600 ish, with 1,000 empty seats each week, very strange, but you know that already.

The quese at the ticket office, I wish celtic would stick to their promise, renewal deadline is tomrrow, and it was online only.

    Anyways –

I was on holiday last week so not read much.

Has there been a debate regarding cup final tickets?

I know that the process for giving out tickets at Celtic has always been corrupt but in the last season I’ve seen some of the worst examples ever.

My son and two of his friends were unlucky in the “ballot” despite being season ticket holders and taking every away ticket they were offered.

Compare and contrast this with a family friend who hasn’t paid for a ticket to see Celtic in decades but has a well kent face at Celtic friend as a mate from school.

  17. timmy7_noted on

Sorry hit send too early. To summarise this friend simply makes a call to his old mate and is given freebies for any game he wants. He has even been given three tickets for the cup final.

I know this goes on but what kind of club gives freebies to friends at the expense of season ticket holders?

  18. On getting top class players in for next season,

“We need top class players in.I am not saying pay,£ 60-70 thousand a week”

Well you can forget your top class players then.Decent players getting that now..I have been constantly saying, its OK to talk about this, but then the expectations go through the roof, and it ends up a moanfest, when those hyped up expectations are not met.We got our recent best players,MOR,1.5 million. If BR said we were signing a midfielde for that this Summer,??????.Ruptions.Forget the nonsense about the lure of CL.Give a player60 grand a week,or 40 grand with a chance to play CL,no contest.

We have to be lucky,in many ways,in the window.

For what its worth,I think we will try to get in as good as we can.

  19. TIMMY7_NOTED on 21ST MAY 2024 3:35 PM

the process per se is not corrupt.

those who pay the mmost for the hospitality full season packages get tickets first. it runs into a few thousand tickets.

    as do the sponsors.

if someone in these categories gets a ticket and passes it on to a family friend, why is that corrupt ?

    St Stivs

Elphin is indeed in Roscommon, as is Strokestown. We had a day trip to Carrick on Shannon which is County Leitrim. That’s 31 out of 32. We drove from Westport through County Sligo to Bundoran, County Donegal, completing the 32. Took me 60 years. 🤣🤣

  23. timmy7_noted on

Saint Stivs, if you are happy with that setup then good for you, I’m not.

The individual I know has been to three games this season, both huns games and now the final without spending a penny I think it stinks.
