Yesterday was not a particularly good day for football. The Edinburgh cup final was played before a half empty Hampden long before the end and Chelsea’s revival of catenaccio secured the Champions League. If nothing else the latter proved that football at the very top level is not always great. Perhaps the reason why truly great teams are so celebrated.
There is an interesting dynamic to Rangers in administration. Creditors have a cash offer of around £8.5m to consider but eight players, Naismith, Bocanegra, McGregor, David, Whittaker, Goian, Lafferty and Edu cut release clause deals with Duff and Phelps for values greater than this.
Any CVA agreed next month (unlikely though it is) could be paid for by the departure of these players. Charles Green could potentially be the second person to buy Rangers for only £1.
It is, however, unlikely that other clubs will offer money for these players before a CVA is agreed as they will be available as free agents should the CVA fail and those in control of Ibrox attempt to form a Newco. Therefore, the chances of creditors getting their hands on any of these transfer fees are limited, no matter what happens to the company.

What I thought about last night (not that i count for much in the grand football scheme of things) but where are the strikers.
Barcelona didn’t win because they don’t have an out and out striker.
Chelsea played in a way that didn’t require an out and out striker, and when one came on he was out on the wing (Torres)
Bayern used their wingers Ribery and Robben (who I personally do not rate as highly as they and others do) too much never releasing the ball early enough to let Gomez and Mueller do much.
Jermaine Defoe who I would consider to be the only penalty box striker in the England team and he can hardly get a game for Spurs.
We on the other hand have one. He would have scored last night if he were playing for Bayern. Sammi would have caused mayhem in that back line of Chelsea’s.
Football is a strange beast at the moment. I just want to see goals is that too much to ask

I need to pay more attention, I always thought you were kidding when you described your house as a cave!!! :-)

Aye, you would just be buying the land, it would have the added bonus of having rooms dug out of the hillside on it.
I have secured my place by walls and gates to keep the dogs in, wouldn’t have bothered otherwise, in effect it’s just the same as a house, but has many more advantages than a house, less heating and A/C bills for a start.

I think Barca’s striker problems began with David Villa’s injury – in a meaningless game.

Chelski’s anti-football is something to despise…but the only time I have ever been close to feeling ashamed at Celtic (specifically in the manner of our play) was under Strachan when we played Man U and McDonald scored in the first minute at Paradise…then we proceeded to defend (with EVERY man behind the ball) for the WHOLE of the game. I felt disgusted by our play that night. Felt cheated by a manager who was never Celtic minded. It was so far from the high ideals & footballing ethos of Jock Stein and all the other great Celtic sides that tried to play the Celtic Way. Still can’t stand Strachan. Its such a tragedy that a truly great Celtic hero like Tommy Burns- who understood the fans, the Celtic ethos & was truly one with the soul of the club- was cheated out of winning more silverware

he’s agreed but on one striker – Barca? I know Messi scores for fun but you need alternatives surely.

Thanks to BJMac for another great day on the fairways. Our esteemed organiser romped home with 40 stableford points and barely a blush to be seen on his visage!
Wonkyradar,
Jock was not adverse to resolutely defending a slender 1 goal advantage, particularly when away from home. He was as much a pragmatist as an idealist, particularly when Scotland manager.

I think football is going through a phase where the one-job player is a luxury.
The modern player has to be mobile and work in different areas.
Hooper is starting to do this, vis a vis, finding himself playing deeper and back tracking.
A lot of Bayern’s problems last night stemmed from Gomes being unable to control any ball that came to him.
As his only function was to finish off moves, his contribution was in the minus bracket.
I will always appreciate what GS did for us and I don’t buy the Celtic minded stuff(a product of the MSM) but some of the football was brutal. While I was brought up to support Celtic, I fell in love with their style. Even when we were p**h, we still wanted them to attack. Defending’s for huns.

how you doin? are you still coming to Norwich?

Can’t begin to agree with you with regard to Gordon Strachan. You are the only person I have heard who has not rejoiced at our beating Man U. Sad, really.

Who were the concubinders hangin aboot wae ye yesterday?
the football yesterday was awful
the penalty that hearts got and the hibs guy got sent off for was a disgrace – more examples of top class scottish ref ing – did they say on sky that craig y boy was scotlands representitive at euro 2012? – jesus wept
chelsea defended for 120 m inutes yesterday and won on pens – well done (to be honest thats 300 minutes chelsea defended for and won the friggin thing)
and west ham going up means lurch is gone – wont be too sad to be honest, nothing to do with his qualities as a keeper – just you either want to sign for the hoops or you dont – he didnt so all the best
craig gordon – no – he dosent want to come here, i dont want to come here (the guy is made of glass ffs) – all the best on your next big bumper pay deal at wigan or the likes
and well done to York for going up today – Mickey Ingham does nets for them and used to play for Cliftonville
and how pathetic is Aston Villa’s attempts to sign Ole Gunnar Solskjaer?
what about that ryan bertrand guy ?
just turns up and sure enough he’s in the team
amazin !
every one of us wishes it was us !
probably never do anythin again in fitba
tony warner comes to mind
5-1 in the lubo match
