“If I hadn’t seen such riches, I could live with being poor.” When Celtic Park hosted the Commonwealth games in 2014, we played Champions League qualifiers at Murrayfield. It was an eye-opener. Entrance and egress, catering and shops, space and the feeling of safety and comfort were a level above what I was used to in the at the back row of the North Stand at Celtic Park (since moved).
Last month, I engaged the club on the need to improve the spectator experience, spend some money, be more like Murrayfield. I received an off the cuff but still detailed response on the millions spent each year to maintain and improve the stadium.
Property maintenance is a continuous job, especially in Scotland for buildings erected in the second half of the 20th century. If you cut corners, you have a bigger job and a higher price to pay down the road.
Newco are caught in a property renovation bind that could be straight out of an episode of Grand Designs. “Billy, a tax accountant from Glasgow, is building an eight-bedroom hovering home and has decided to project manage himself. Billy remembers ordering the steel girders, but the Chinese supplier is no longer answering the phone.” We are right to mock Billy.
You, me and James have seen such riches. We want to sit down in a stadium fit for the middle of the 21st century. What else are we going to do with all those millions?

Interesting-ish.
Celtic had planning consent granted in Feb24 for the reconfiguration of “segregation gates” at the South East corner of the stadium.
Areas affected highlighted in the red sections.
This would suggest Celtic had already agreed the “away allocation” for r”ngers before an announcement was made 1 month later.
The area in blue are owned by Celtic plc.
This however does not mean you can build on them, and indeed right of way for access to services, electic, water, sewage etc etc etc over sees everything else.
intersting that little sliver facing london road and above the railway tunnel is the only piece with other consents granted.
i personally think we will progress the hotel development siin

i do wonder did celtic get the metal locally, damned clever of them getting a plan in place and working to it with no delays.
Do the Czech fans sing “say hello to the Provod” ?

Clubs who lose CL qualifiers drop down to EL.
Danny Murphy just said…
I like how when a player goes off after treatment he is waved back on after 30 seconds rather than this waiting 30 seconds nonsense.
Well we have no SFA officials working at this tournament that tells its own story.
MAESTRO- who knows if we actually have any decent referees, they are too busy devoting careers to the Mother Ship….
I wont post links to the Ibrox planning, but here, imho, is where it gets interesting. I took a wee look at some places and dont want to post names or companies.
What was proposed was an improvement for less-abled supporters by creating viewing platforms (all very admirable).
This in turn displaced existing supporters sears but allows for the creation of a cantilver section hanging from the bottom of the upper stand of the copland road.
This is classed as a “development” but this DOES NOT NEED PLANNING PERMISSION, as the reconfiguration of seats does not change the usage, only affects the internal layout but the purpose remains the same, and does not change the exterior of the building.
So in practice a “CERTIFICATE OF LAWFULLNESS FOR PROPOSED USE” is requested and agreed.
The use of language used in the documents is very important as to what can and cannot be done.
—————-
Now, the interesting part.
We have determined planning consent is not needed, whether works are delayed, postponed or just stopped. But if in the course of doing works a BUILDING WARRANT is needed, this is acceptance of what building works will be done, when and how, who buy, and what materials are used and how waste will be disposed.
If you are removing walls, which hold up stair cases, which they are, they need building warrants.
If they discover some toxic materials during this, then other courses of action need to take place.
Asbestos is getting talked about, but, there has been an asbestos register for building in place for a longtime, if it is in there it should be know, and avoided in the build plans.
Something else is wrong, I can smell it.
St Stives I know I go on about things around our stadium, yes but you always reply back which I appreciate,
and now for something completely different, ………. well similar but different.
did anyone know about a safe standing section in the rear of 122 ?
the opposite corner fron the north curve section.

SS, Timbhoy 163
Still annoyed that we are giving the huns tickets for our ground. Its a kick in the teeth for our fans who occupied these seats without wrecking them and the toilets to boot.
It is undeniable that it is safer withouttje huns there. I dont see Sky putting the pressure on as they just recorded the biggest viewing figures.
There will be loads of empty seats due to segregation.
In my opinion the club have sold our fans down the river.
I am glad you continually mention pur lack of urgency and ambition regarding our stadium.
We are definitely not optimising the match day experience. If GCC are hindering our plans then name and shame. Celtic football club will be around longer than individual councillors will be in place.
However the council dont stop us deep cleaning, adding some replacement paint, providing some hot water, chosing our food and drinks partners and providing the fans with decent internet access.
HH guys.
Greenapinta thanks 😊 🙏
I dont particularly blame the council
People with a job tp do, mostly qialified to do it, and a procedure to follow will do what is reuired to meet the paygrade.
I had projects placed with Inverclyde and Renfrewshire. I had other site investigations with Dumbartonshire, Glasgow and East Renfrewshire,
Getting you on board for a project they will promise it all. Get involved with planning and building warrants (and payig rent) whole different ball game.
This is no kidding, it once took 8 months to get permission for a luminated sign on a building at braehead. The light came on in the ark, obvs,
The neighbours closed at 8pm,
they were allowed to raise objections.
I got steel quicker from china to italy than i did for the light up sign.
no kidding.
SS,
On a slightly different topic. I wonder where the Steel is coming from for BAE systems big mad shed over Govan way. ?
as a ps, and a general interest.
I am intrigued by all the political parties now promising a great housing build programme during their electioneering.
Fix the planning consent process, remove the reason for objecytions, and most of all get ownership of housing back into public authorities.
that is what is needed.
aff oot.
SS,
Is there still a form of Murray International metals about.
I must not get mixed up with Steel and Steal.

MIM was wound up.
However, just like the valuable property pieces lots of the assets were placed around the family.
Murray International Metals only a year ago sold the ASIA part to its management team.
Murray Steel Products UK is a going concern.
As the song goes
“its a cruel irony he is richer now than ever he was before”.
We are actually spending money on these mongs,on new gates…..
12th July 2023
Murray Capital, the Edinburgh-based metals, property, wine, and investment company, has sold its Asian steel business to the company’s management.
The family business, now majority owned and run by David and Keith Murray, sons of former Rangers owner Sir David Murray, said it is to focus on the UK steel market with the sale of the international steel business, Murray Energy Asia.
————
a wee quizzical look from me, but i always thought one of the Murrays would buy the Rangers again, and say his dad was just duped.
Stivs
Council planning a law unto themselves
South Ayrshire council planned to relocate their offices to the town centre
To take up and redevelop some town centre buildings etc etc
They knocked those fuckers down
Just as the planning dept knocked them back

Daftie hun saying that suppliers/builders will be subject to a penalty clause. Up steps tav dressed as santa. 😂
IT IS A LONG READ,
but joe public would have got done with fraud.
restructuring debt, while bankrupt, hiving off the sellable assetts and putting them in relative names.

Revealed: How Murray International Holdings’ accounts outline Lloyds ‘incentives’ to Sir David Murray before and after Craig Whyte Rangers sale

In a parallel universe, and I know I should just accept they are not very clever, on one of their blogs ……….
“this would have never happened under Murray, he would have been all over it, and thrown money at the problem to get it fixed”
got to be a tim, or mibbies not
Saint Stubs
To be fair, the statement probably correct – but it would have been somebody else’s money.
Sorry St. Stivs – autocorrect to blame.
You’ve got to love that goal. Two Portugal players argueing with each other, while missing the Turk putting it into his own net :O)
Pa Broon, the Ayrshire Rag n Bone Man, Gavin Masterton, James Crosby and Peter Cummings……
Sic a parcel o rogues if I ever did see one….
And the Turkey keeper was apparently linked with us.
Chelsea and Man U enter a £100mill bidding war for the EUROs top scorer
saint stivs
Don’t like the sound of that “segregation work” (2.4m fences, gates etc) to be carried out in or near the SE Corner of Celtic Park, nor that set of steps leading down from the first level concourse in the “East Stand”.
Pound to a penny there has not been one word of consultation with the wider Celtic support on this.
i am puzzled as to why we now need steps after the exit gates from the top tier 418/419.
