Protecting your keeper and defence

772

If we are looking for reasons why Celtic have dropped so many points in recent weeks it is revealing that we have not kept a clean sheet away in the league since Boxing Day, and that was to bottom club Dundee.

Losing goals, of course, is seldom about the last line of defence, and losing goals this consistently is seldom even an issue with defence, in dominant teams, defenders are seldom taxed.  It is more likely a consequence of the shape of the team.  Goalkeepers should be protected, as should defences.

It’s the midfield we should be looking at.  Dominate possession and stop leaving spaces for the opposition to exploit; we’ll stop losing goals and start winning games.

  1. Mainly lurking now only comment sometimes but here is something to ponder regarding sporting integrity.

London Welsh have just been deducted five points and a further five points suspended until the end of next season, fined £15,000 for fielding an ineligible player for a couple of games, this has dropped the team to the bottom of the league and will almost definately mean relegation at the end of the season.

It all revolves around a visa application regarding nationality that went a wee bit askew, the person responsible, wait for it, has been banned from any involvement in Rugby sport for LIFE. The club are not appealing against the life ban as they feel that sporting integrity has to be upheld and those responsible have to be punished, they are however appealing against the points deduction.

Although a sorry tale it does show that sporting integrity matters in judicial decisions but unfortunately only outside of Scotland.

Maybe if someone could send London Welsh a draft copy of the LNS report they might insist that he be on the appeal committee. Any thoughts? HH

And it doesn’t spoil the game for spectators, this is another myth that football authorities keep peddling, you would think from this [getting decisions wrong] they want that to continue or make it very expensive to change

In my opinion the league is more exciting with old firm games any player in Scotland would agree. I didn’t say they should be let back in

  6. Re the SPL we are in a no win situation, win it in a canter and the whole League is ridiculed, labour to a win and we are mince. Our lowest winning total was 84 pts. even if we win all remaining 8 games we can only reach 86. In past we had to deal with a strong Rangers and it would not be unusual to end up with 1 loss & 2 draws in the head to heads, which would mean dropping 7 pts. With Huns gone, 91 this League would roughly equate with lowest total of 84. Obviously we are going to fall well short of this tally. I’m not unduly worried as it has kept the season alive longer but it does raise questions which should be discussed in a rational manner.

  7. ROW Z - Let Celtic Flourish By The Cleansing Of The 'Den! on

I have just costed goal line non-technology. It costs £1,900 a week for the whole of Scottish football. On a 36 week season that would be £68,400 a year.

What is this miracle I hear you say (and so cheap)?

    Simple

pay someone £50 a game to stand beside the goals at every game and decide if the ball has crossed the line.

    Sometimes less is more!

  8. London Welsh should sign Dan Carter, Richie McCaw, Bryan Habana etc. and go the whole Sevco route.

‘Stupid, moronic statement. Someone from Celtic should have a serious word with Charlie’

Of course you’re right, but someone should have headed him of at the pass, i.e. briefed all Celtic players not to give MSM manna

Just to be clear mate I hope Celtic never play any form of the huns again and I am enjoying my season thoroughly with them, I don’t live in Scotland so maybe I don’t understand the influence the MSM have on the ground, they promoted huns to the SPL last year fail, the promoted a huns to SFL1, fail so if we are talking about results their influence wouldn’t seem to reach into the realms of the people who make the decisions..

The greater body of fans was against the filthy cheating huns getting straight back into the SPL and they will be again this year that’s assuming that sevco even see out the year..

I’ve posted it before but an earliest memory is also v Thirds at Celtic Park

It was a high scoring game, either a draw or a reverse? early sixties, and my older brother

Pre Stein, we weren’t very good ;-)

When in the name of god is PL going to tell all Celtic employees to zip it or else when asked loaded questions by LL rats looking for a pro sevco headline? That includes PL too.

  15. Oh dear Charlie bhoy. Didn’t you know you’re not allowed to have an opinion if it doesn’t fit into the agenda of the new angst-driven drama qieens who populate CQN with their unwavering, and unforgiving jsckboot mentality. It’s their entire raison d’etre so it is. Yawn!

  16. Poor from Charlie. Very poor from the club not to have someone there to manage the presser.

  18. 'crushed nuts?' 'Naw, Layringitis!' on

CM is one of a long line of football players who have been suckered by lazy hacks to say something newsworthy.

Attributing the defeat to Ross County to a lack of competition is the really stupid thing to say!

Anyone who thinks that the Reptiles return – in any guise- would be a good thing for Celtic, football or society in general is deluded.

They died because they deserved to. Cheating; match-fixing; causing a transfer arms race that ruined many clubs; inducing hacks to follow the party line (rather than report the truth); pandering to a bigoted, backward section of society that glorifies racist/sectarian violence; signing players in order to prevent them playing against them; encouraging gormless responses to anyone perceived as a threat.

Sevco have found their level, let them rot there!

  23. Oh dear!

Some of the sevconians on SSB have just discovered that fat Sally is not very good. :-)

  24. There is a lack of competition this year and I think it has contributed to some odd performances. Charlie obviously wasn’t thinking it’d sphun as lack of competition and letting cheats, fraudsters and liars in are two different things.

  25. The MSM have an agenda to work to, no matter whether its the written press tv or radio its to source any crumb of support for sevco to be playing with the big boys, get used to it lads this is the way its going to be for some time to come.

  26. The Honest Cover-up on

It’s easy for Charlie do clear this up. Does he want them fast tracked into top flight or not? Not a difficult question to answer!

Starry Plough, yeah their attempts to slot them into SPL and then SFL1 did fail but I’d say it came pretty close. The fact it was even mooted as a possibilty was a disgrace and wouldn’t have been on the agenda if it wasn’t for MMS helping the push for it.

It could even be said they influenced the LNS farce. They certainly got the result they wanted.

I agree that it probably won’t come to it next year, partly because it would surely mean two teams relegated to make space for them and I can’t see SPL teams voting for that.

Here was us thinking they were “enjoying the adventure” as well!

    HH

  27. @CelticGossip @JGS1888 By letting the LNS verdict stand unchallenged, SPL fans are encouraging SFA to run amok & ignore fans & rulebook
