Protecting your keeper and defence

772

If we are looking for reasons why Celtic have dropped so many points in recent weeks it is revealing that we have not kept a clean sheet away in the league since Boxing Day, and that was to bottom club Dundee.

Losing goals, of course, is seldom about the last line of defence, and losing goals this consistently is seldom even an issue with defence, in dominant teams, defenders are seldom taxed.  It is more likely a consequence of the shape of the team.  Goalkeepers should be protected, as should defences.

It’s the midfield we should be looking at.  Dominate possession and stop leaving spaces for the opposition to exploit; we’ll stop losing goals and start winning games.

For how long after the event are you keeping this particular JUSTGIVING site open?

Might I suggest at least till the end of the month when everyone gets paid, then hammer the point home?

  2. Clyde have tabled proposals to move to East Kilbride and even change the name of the club. If the move goes ahead, the club would be re-christened EK Clyde as part of a partnership with the East Kilbride Community Trust.

Think I have heard, time to move on , a few times over the last week, cant think where I heard it.

  4. Leigh Griffiths

Wolves have an option to extend his contract for a year. The Hibee’s at work understand they will take that option and if they go down they will keep him to help them out of league one. If they stay up he will be punted or given out on loan to someone again. I think Doyle is out of contract too so they need an in form striker. Whether that is Griffiths or not remains to be seen at the moment but it’s unlikely he will be on a free.

If you do, be sure to rifle through his pockets and get the fuel card.

  6. Some random thoughts on our team:

Efe is not a CB. A midfielder perhaps? Every game he tries to do what caught him out against Juve – tries to dribble the ball out of defence and lay it off. He gets away with it in the SPL. Better to play him in midfield where if he loses the ball, the ball is further away from our goal? Or is there a school of thought that says if he loses out to an opposition midfielder that can pick a pass we could be exposed more?

3 at the back has not worked under Neil. We should ensure our squad has at least 2 RBs and LBs. I know the young Bhoy Chalmers can play LB but do we have any youths that can play RB?

We look like scoring when we hit the byeline and cross it into the box. It was no accident the closest we came to scoring against Juve was when Sammi hit the byeline. We need to start doing this – FBs too.

Are you concerned at all that Neil’s tactical skills development domestically seems to have stalled? I love the guy to bits but watching us make the same mistakes time after time is to put it mildly, puzzling. A light weight midfield, we all know what that gets us in the SPL, normally a defeat. I cant work it out at all, he’s a smart guy who you would think would be getting more and more streetwise domestically, but thats not whats happening on the pitch.

(Ghuys – I’m not having a go at Neil here – just genuinely puzzled)

I don’t understand the benefit for EKFC in tying up with Clyde.

The club (EKFC) established the EKCT to manage the K Park facility and the development of the proposed stadium at Langlands.

The club is expecting to play in the South of Scotland League next year with a club development plan taking account of the SFA’s ‘pyramid’ system opening up the route to senior football in the town.

The club has a first rate training and academy centre, a new stadium in the pipeline, and a plan to bring senior football to the town in the coming years, all funded from within.

What’s the point in teaming up with Clyde? It seems unlikely that the town could sustain 2 senior clubs. Seems to me, if the Clyde tie up is confirmed, that the development of the EKFC senior side will by kyboshed.

  18. Ntassoolla

That is what I am worried about. I think he is a good athlete and tries to play fitba (which is nice) but gets beat too many times in the air (Dundee Utd, Juve) for him to be a CB in our team.

Anyone who watches the U20s – do we have a RB that could do an emergency job?

I read we are looking at Marcos Alonso and he would be a good squad player but better than we have?

  19. Any of the fans here had a feeling that it doesn’t matter what we do we’ll never get a level playing field? Has it been re-affirmed in the last few weeks?

Well some (most?) of the players are fans, or have become fans too.

Talk about demotivating. That would do it for me.

Neil Lennon is a young manager – three years in the job.

He will continue to make mistakes. We just have to accept that.

It’s easy to forget where Lenny is in his career because of the success he has already achieved. But we can’t have Barcelona nights on a constant basis – there will be other setbacks.

We had to move the site

Unfortunately we have had to make the decision to move to a wordpress free site. The reason we had to make this decision is because our hosting company and some of their clients were sent abusive and threatening emails. This is now in the hands of the Police and therefor we have no further comment to make.

We will have to look into starting a new forum as this free version of wordpress does not allow for a forum. We also can’t seem to transfer users over.

We would like to make one thing clear. To the bigots and trolls we ‘Don’t Do Walking Away’ , you will not stop SPL Fans United with your vile threats and petty intimidation. The vast majority of Scottish football fans are decent law abiding tax paying citizens and they will prevail.

We would like to thank William Brown for his help and support in setting up the site and our social media contacts. We wish him all the best for the future and can recommend him as a first class web developer and hosting provider. We apologise for all the hassle he, his family and clients have had to put up with.

Just been on a wee visit to the Annan Athletic website. Apparently Daniel Orsi who scored their second goal on Saturday is on loan from a Div 2 team. Cheats they are. This is the kind of skulduggery that Sally has to contend with. Will no one play fair with them?

In a team where the manager picks two or sometimes three defensive midfielders in midfield I don’t see how we could try and firm up midfield.

To me the recent results have been through changing the centre half partnership and the manager not being able to motivate players.
