Protecting your keeper and defence

772

If we are looking for reasons why Celtic have dropped so many points in recent weeks it is revealing that we have not kept a clean sheet away in the league since Boxing Day, and that was to bottom club Dundee.

Losing goals, of course, is seldom about the last line of defence, and losing goals this consistently is seldom even an issue with defence, in dominant teams, defenders are seldom taxed.  It is more likely a consequence of the shape of the team.  Goalkeepers should be protected, as should defences.

It’s the midfield we should be looking at.  Dominate possession and stop leaving spaces for the opposition to exploit; we’ll stop losing goals and start winning games.

  1. Give it another twenty minutes and they’ll be telling us Big Charlie is to sign for sevco.

Big Charlie is a proper Celtic man. He is young and hasn’t rejoiced in as nearly as much hun-skelping as us old fogies. So give the bhoy a break.

  2. http://splfansunited.wordpress.com/2013/03/11/we-had-to-move-the-site/

We had to move the site

Unfortunately we have had to make the decision to move to a wordpress free site. The reason we had to make this decision is because our hosting company and some of their clients were sent abusive and threatening emails. This is now in the hands of the Police and therefor we have no further comment to make.

We will have to look into starting a new forum as this free version of wordpress does not allow for a forum. We also can’t seem to transfer users over.

We would like to make one thing clear. To the bigots and trolls we ‘Don’t Do Walking Away’ , you will not stop SPL Fans United with your vile threats and petty intimidation. The vast majority of Scottish football fans are decent law abiding tax paying citizens and they will prevail.

We would like to thank William Brown for his help and support in setting up the site and our social media contacts. We wish him all the best for the future and can recommend him as a first class web developer and hosting provider. We apologise for all the hassle he, his family and clients have had to put up with.

Quick question before I hit ma cot for the nightshift.

Does Charlie really really want newhuns back?

A return to the sort of cheating which saw him being sent off for having the temerity to eyeball an opponent?

Speaking of eyeballs,a return to cheating refs wi eyeballs in their backside?

Or booking virtually an entire team of Celtic players who had been kicked all day before finally showing a Valentines card to the nearest hun wi a minute to go?

Wee Jamesie nearly getting broken in two, anyone? Scott seeing red for eff-all,and yellow for standing still?

    I know I don’t.

I doubt that he does either.

  4. Celtic First,

    Excellent post.

It should be posted on here daily.

In fact Paul should put it on his daily post along with the adverts for funny fags and the lads’ mags.

CQNers should memorise your post and vow to quote from it every time a Hun refers to Sevco as R@%%**s.

Any CQNer caught accepting their s**te as fact should be fined and the money donated to charity, wee Oscar, Kano Foundation etc.

    It’s all about the money…

The 12-12 part of the new schmoo is pretty much a goer. One or two clubs have reservations about the middle 8 thing, but on the whole, more clubs get a share of the TV pie, and that helps to sustain full time football for those involved.

Whether it goes 10-10 or 1 x 18 is in the hands of the SFL clubs, particularly the 18 (17 voters) not in the top two divisions.

Sevco want 2×10 so they can increase the price of season tickets etc for playing in a higher league following promotion, in line with their business plan.

The rest want a slice of Sevco’s action – D3 clubs are getting around £50K TV dough plus 2 home matches out of Sevco this season, around £100K altogether. That’s a year’s revenue for some of them.

Expect the Turkeys to vote for 1×18 so they can all get another bite at Sevco’s cherry pie next season, followed by a volte face the following season when they go to 2×10 once Sevco has been promoted, to mitigate the threat of relegation out of the league altogether.

  10. Jeg er Neil Lennon-Greeninbingley on

Charlie’s comment strikes me as that of someone who was wrong-footed by a mischievous question.

I am sure he knew just what would happen had he said ‘No – they got what they deserved’ – remember, he was there for the bullets, the bombs, the Tynecastle assault on Neil and all the rest of the thuggery on display over the past few years.

Of course he should have dodged it, said no comment, or I don’t care, or we are having a fantastic season, or whatever.

The question was loaded and he should have had the nous to dodge it, but he didn’t. Big deal. So he’s given the MSM ammunition – big deal. Like they need ammunition.

He did NOT say he wanted Sevco fast tracked into the SPL.

No need to hang the man out to dry for saying (IMO) that he misses sticking it to the Huns.

Personally, I hope we never, ever again have to take the field to play ANY manifestation/infestation of RFC, in any guise.

But maybe I would feel different if I was a player.

  13. The Moon Bhoys on

Celtic First @ 17.01 – great post – never tire of reading that – here’s another one I never tire of reading…

“Please stop this idiotic drivel about Rangers being hard done by in some way. Sorry, but not on this planet. You wonder why everyone was so down on Rangers? Could it be because you had been lording it over the rest of Scottish football (Celtic excepted) for decades, whilst cheating financially on a staggering scale to ensure your position could never be threatened? Everybody likes to see a bully get their comeuppance, and Rangers were one of the biggest bullies in football history.

Having been found out, Rangers then showed zero remorse (still haven’t, in fact) and have continued to behave with unbelievable arrogance even as their club collapsed around them. Had it not been for the utter lack of humility shown by the club, other people might have been more sympathetic, but that’s the Rangers way, isn’t it?

Then the unthinkable happened – you actually went bust. And contrary to what you appear to think, every authority in Scottish football immediately began to do everything in their power to ensure that you had as soft a landing as possible. Administrators are supposed to act on behalf of the creditors, to get them the best deal possible. That’s almost the exact opposite of what happened in your case. The company’s largest assets (Ibrox and Murray Park) were not sold off to the highest bidder to pay off the creditors. Instead, they were placed out of the creditors’ reach by selling them to NewCo for a derisory sum (about £4.5m, IIRC – when Ibrox alone had been valued at £100m in Rangers’ own accounts!) This was allowed to go unchallenged. Was there a fire sale of players? No. In fact, Green threatened legal action against players who exercised their right to leave.

Then we come to the question of where NewCo would play, and the shameful shenanigans that went on to try to prevent them from having to follow the rules. As a new club, NewCo should have had to apply to join SFL3, like any other new club would have to. But instead we were treated to the spectacle of the SPL and SFA seriously considering reinserting them into the SPL and pretending nothing had happened. It’s hardly surprising the fans of other clubs were screaming blue murder – the authorities had thrown away their own rule book and were making things up as they went along, because this was Rangers, and the usual rules don’t apply to OF clubs.

Fortunately, sanity prevailed and the SPL clubs voted against this madness, which really and truly would have made Scottish football a laughing stock around the world. Then the focus went on to the SFL, who were pressurised into putting NewCo into SFL1 – for which there was even less justification than keeping them in the SPL, since the latter is a separate body. But this failed too, amid dire predictions of doom and apocalypse (which have failed to ensue). So NewCo went to SFL3.

Then we started to get this nonsense about ‘we’ve been punished enough’. Complete twaddle. You weren’t punished AT ALL for anything you did. The ‘demotion’ was anything but – instead of having to reapply to the SFL, you were allowed to keep OldCo’s membership and bypass the application process. It was doing NewCo a favour. The only ‘punishments’ dealt out to Rangers were a miserable fine, a transfer ban which was carefully arranged to cause a minimum of inconvenience (it didn’t start till you had already signed players for this season, and will end just in time for you to register players for next season!) and a requirement to pay ‘football debts’, which was trivial in comparison to the series of favours you had received.

Then the new season began, with Rangers in Div 3, but still owning Ibrox and Murray Park, still having much of their squad, still having all their coaching staff, having made virtually nobody redundant, and claiming somehow to be both a new club (hence debt free) and an old club (hence with all the Rangers history). No attempt has been made to challenge this at all. Next thing we know, ‘Rangers’ – who are supposed to have gone bust and returned as a new entity – are signing players from SPL clubs and paying them bumper SPL wages to play in SFL3.

Is it any wonder that your club are resented? The scale of the heist you have pulled off is breathtaking. You were cheating, you were found out, you went bust, and yet you have been allowed to carry on as if nothing had happened. Your ‘punishment’ has been a slap on the wrist at best. And despite all this, you honestly think you have been mistreated! If Hearts go to the wall, do you think we will get ANY of the special treatment you did? Not a chance in hell.”

  18. Wednesday 11th

I received a large amount of birthday cards today. Some from people I do not know. In particular a Mass bouquet with fifty Masses on it from Mrs Burns from Sevastopol Street. We all know of her, she never forgets us and we shan’t forget her, bless her dear heart.

I also received a card from reporter Brendan O Cathaoir, which indeed was thoughtful. I received a letter from a friend, and from a student in America whom I don’t know, but again it’s good to know that people are thinking of you. There were some smuggled letters as well from my friends and comrades.

I am the same weight today and have no complaints medically. Now and again I am struck by the natural desire to eat but the desire to see an end to my comrades’ plight and the liberation of my people is overwhelmingly greater.

The doctor will be taking a blood test tomorrow. It seems that Dr Ross has disappeared and Dr Emerson is back…

Again, there has been nothing outstanding today except that I took a bath this morning. I have also been thinking of my family and hoping that they are not suffering too much.

I was trying to piece together a quote from James Connolly today which I’m ashamed that I did not succeed in doing but I’ll paraphrase the meagre few lines I can remember.

They go something like this: a man who is bubbling over with enthusiasm (or patriotism) for his country, who walks through the streets among his people, their degradation, poverty, and suffering, and who (for want of the right words) does nothing, is, in my mind, a fraud; for Ireland distinct from its people is but a mass of chemical elements.

Perhaps the stark poverty of Dublin in 1913 does not exist today, but then again, in modern day comparison to living standards in other places through the world, it could indeed be said to be the same if not worse both North and South. Indeed, one thing has not changed, that is the economic, cultural and physical oppression of the same Irish people…

Even should there not be 100,000 unemployed in the North, their pittance of a wage would look shame in the company of those whose wage and profit is enormous, the privileged and capitalist class who sleep upon the people’s wounds, and sweat, and toils.

Total equality and fraternity cannot and never will be gained whilst these parasites dominate and rule the lives of a nation. There is no equality in a society that stands upon the economic and political bog if only the strongest make it good or survive. Compare the lives, comforts, habits, wealth of all those political conmen (who allegedly are concerned for us, the people) with that of the wretchedly deprived and oppressed.

Compare it in any decade in history, compare it tomorrow, in the future, and it will mock you. Yet our perennial blindness continues. There are no luxuries in the H-Blocks. But there is true concern for the Irish people.
