Protecting your keeper and defence

772

If we are looking for reasons why Celtic have dropped so many points in recent weeks it is revealing that we have not kept a clean sheet away in the league since Boxing Day, and that was to bottom club Dundee.

Losing goals, of course, is seldom about the last line of defence, and losing goals this consistently is seldom even an issue with defence, in dominant teams, defenders are seldom taxed.  It is more likely a consequence of the shape of the team.  Goalkeepers should be protected, as should defences.

It’s the midfield we should be looking at.  Dominate possession and stop leaving spaces for the opposition to exploit; we’ll stop losing goals and start winning games.

  1. Can you imagine if Man Utd were liquidated. Would the ready made replacement of United FC of Manchester are taken on as a replacement.

Move from ground sharing at Bury to Old Trafford. Fans flock to watch them. Would they be fast tracked anywhere. Would they be called Manchestet Utd and claim their history.

Would the English FA and EPL be bending the rules?

Will Paulo DiCanio be the new manager of Reading?

  3. Just saw CM on SSN.

    Unbelieveable!

Was he there on his own, ffs?

Surely to goodness there should have been someone from the club there.

No sooner had he opened his gub when the next hun journo jumped in with his Sevco question.

Really amateurish stuff from Celtic and CM.

As someone has already stated, the ‘get Sevco in to the SPL’ campaign is now in full swing.

Over the next decade their will be tens of £billions invested in North Sea Oil, much of which will be linked to Aberdeen. To the best of my knowledge the oil industry in Scotland has never invested in the local football club, or if it did I must have missed. It is a pity that Aberdeen have postponed the building of their new stadium for a year, (assuming the fans are happy moving out of town) because it is a terrific project near a loch south of the city. It is a pity, because, with funding, and a keen ambitious younger manager (the But’n’Ben awaits for aul Granpa Broon) they could quite easily challenge for the SPL title over two or three years. The stadium is probably the key, maybe they could get the Norwegian owned Statoil to sponsor it.

Our site is more & more becoming a forum for the supposedly Celtic minded to get the steel toecaps into the manager & the team.

Is there any possibility that we might return to being a Celtic SUPPORTING site ?

It is hard to believe that our club is in a better place today than ordinary CELTIC SOPPORTERS could have hoped for.

Could we not just ENJOY where Celtic are at this moment in time ?

  6. Just out work and scrolling back.Seems a bit of debate about Leigh Griffiths.

Has he not been charged with alleged racist tweets?

Sounds like an ideal signing for Sevco, for us? No tanks!

I don’t want to Sevco anywhere except in the grubber but I also don’t want to get hysterical over every wee thing that is misrepresented about my club by the MSM( more insignificant by the day).

It seems sometimes on here that there are a portion of us who are just waiting for the chance to beat Celtic over the head with what ever the fashion stick of that day is.

The MSM are paid to get headlines and stories they have no qualms but they nor their readers influence policy at Celtic and never have done in all the years I have supported Celtic.

Charlie might get his bawstoed behind closed doors I don’t know maybe our management don’t give a tinkers cuss what’s in the papers because they have the inside track to what is happening..

The fact that they are still hounding our management and players for quotes about a third division team shows just how desperate they are…

Last but not least MSM who really takes them seriously?? Does what other people think of us really make any difference to our club or our people if it did Celtic would have expired a long time ago..

We’re on the way up and THEY can’t stand it..

Is there any possibility we might start the fight against cheating , corruption and freemasonry in Scottish football or are we going to wait until its to late.

Agree about some posters attacks on NFL and the team but they are leaving themselves open to these people at times.

Constructive criticism should always be allowed , IMO.

  10. Just before the CM story, it was announced that the SPL will vote on league reconstruction next month and the formation of one body to run the set-up.

If they vote for it, they need at least 11 votes for the new structure.

It then goes to the SFL teams to vote on.

When I say that, I mean those allowed to vote.

For obvious reasons SevcoFC are excluded.

So, Sevco are going to be turning over 100m? Has anyone in the MSM said how bad this will be for Scottish football? They kept telling us last summer how bad it would be if “Rangers” were not in the SPL as Celtic would win it every year. No way any team (including Celtic) could compete with that sort of finance, therefore bad for the game here, surely?

  15. John Fleming on goal line technology.

“Firstly, as an association we are in favour of Goal Line Technology, and indeed have been heavily involved during the test process as a member of the IFAB,” he said. “However, as the General Secretary of FIFA himself, Jerome Valcke, outlined in Edinburgh last week, the installation of each system will cost a six-figure sum on top of any maintenance costs.

“That would make it prohibitive, I would suggest, for the respective league bodies in Scotland, The Scottish Premier League and Scottish Football League, to consider rolling-out any time soon.

“In the meantime, we will continue to reinforce the training that we give to referees. In La Manga, we actually give referees simulations and they have a split second to decide whether the ball is on the line or over the line. It is an essential part of their training but they are only human.

So there will be more honest mistakes. Worrying.

  19. No training will change yesterdays decision at Easter Road, if goal line technology is too expensive a simple way to deal with this would be stop the game, review of the video footage by the 4th official, restart the game as appropriate, certainly dont want clubs to pay for more assistant refs

    “the notorious Brattbak interview”?

    must have missed that

Hope you catch this.Only just picked up on your question.

The day before a 1990s meeting with THEM, Brattbak, whose first language was not English was sat down in front of eight or nine members of Scotland’s media rat pack.

He was asked to the effect of how important the following day’s result would be. Falling for it, he rightly replied along the lines that there were far more important things in the world than the result of a football match.

The ratpack being rats and lazy with it,, put their heads together and almost unanimously filed reports proclaiming that in Harald’s opinion ‘it did not matter whether Celtic beat THEM or not.

    Hope this had been helpful.

  28. The Honest Cover-up on

    Starry plough

It’s easy to say you don’t care what the MMS say and to an extent I agree. But Mulgrew was a silly, silly boy walking into that trap. The agenda is being set and I fear we now face another summer of uncertainty about whether Sevco will play in the top flight. To be honest, that notion actually bothers me more than the “title stripping” farce (or non title stripping) from a dead club.

“It’s time to end this madness”, “Rangers have been cleared of wrongdoing”, “we must move on” and now “even the Celtic players want them in top flight!” will be lines rammed down our throats over the coming weeks. I find that more tiresome and spirit crushing than a dead club being allowed to “keep” the titles they cheated to win.

The thought of having to listen to songs about children being raped and Catholics being killed when watching my team in the league next season makes me weary.

I don’t think it’ll actually happen but the good people in Scottish football are all going to have pull together again to make sure the right thing is done.

Like it or not, the MMS do have some influence and we have to outwit them like last summer. Charlie’s comments don’t help our cause.

  29. ….PFayr

The whole league reconstruction is not even the direction the game should be going, it’s short termism in the extreme amd to do it with the same guys who oversaw this hun feck up is just adding insult to injury, it’s hard to belive that a country like Scotland who produced the Lions and many many world class players has been reduce to the level of Giant Haystack, Mick Mc Manus and Kendo Nagasaki…

My first ever league game was watching the Celtic at Cathkin Park with my Grandad, Uncles and my Father (who was Thirds Man but was converted on their demise in 1966).

Can’t remember which season – was either 1952 or 1953 and Celtic scored 3 goals – the results for both seasons then were: 3-3 and 1-3.

Unfortunately ‘Pop’ and my Dad are no longer with us to confirm which game!
