How did there organised back four get on in their last competitive domestic fixture…or European fixture…or cup tie…

  2. excathedra44 on

Did the Club make money from this Pre-Season saga?

There can be no other reason,as although fitness will have improved.a defeat,no matter to who,is an impact to morale.

That said,I thought some of our quick interchange passing was impressive, and against less capable opposition would have been devastating.

I thought Patryk at CF roughed up their defence more so than Eddie who was quiet.

    Best forgotten.

  3. I do not share the majority view.

Boli played alright when he came on and Frimpong is a cracking wee full back full of pace and trickery.

He was our outstanding player tonight.

Yes he has a bit to learn defensively but he will improve.

    The game was very useful.

Lennon has got them far closer to match sharp in one week in France.

My major concern is Rogic who looks miles off it and surprisingly flat performances from our two top performers Eddy and Calum……..but I have seen enough of those two to be sure they will come good.

  4. what is it with some celtic supporters team gets a humliating defeat and we just accept it? supporters no what the problem is but the board dont listen

  5. How did there organised back four get on in their last competitive domestic fixture…or European fixture…or cup tie…

how did thems defensive get on in the last 2 matches better organised than us

  6. Boli played alright when he came on and Frimpong is a cracking wee full back full of pace and trickery.

    you’re at the wind up

  7. Lets see who has the more organised defence when the REAL games begin.!

Cant believe some of the negativity on here after a pre-season fitness excercise against a top quality side at their own ground.

    dear oh dear.

  8. Can’t comment on performance as I disn’t see game, but aĺ I do know is that pre season results mean eff all.

Season starts against Accies, from there on let Lenny & the team be judged.

  9. I thought we played very well at times against a world class team. I’ve no doubt that we’ll pick up where we left off in Scotland by battering teams and hoovering up 3 points every weekend.

We do need a keeper and the sooner the better.

  10. what’s happened to young frimpong , he lit up the stadium when he hit the first team with his enthusiasm and his free play bombing down the right wing, now the coaches have got him and reigned him in , looks that way to me.

  11. Before play, professional golfers are on the range, working on their shots.

They generally finish with what will be their first tee shot.

Does playing PSG allow us to play the formation we want to play, to start the season with? Or was it just a predictable pumping.

There are hundreds of other teams in europe, against whom to work on fitness

  12. I see no reason to be negative.

I will not be drawn into the usual ‘we are shite spin’

We are the champions. How many times does it need to happen for a little bit of confidence to be given to this group of players.

We might not be strong enough to qualify for the champions league let alone hold our own in it.

But on the other hand we might qualify and we might hold our own.

What I do know is that all the worry and fear is not lying at the east end of glasgow.

The press will try and spin this result as usual and I am surprised that some celtic fans on here are so quick to judge us on a few training matches in France.

Judge us when the action starts for real.Show Neil Lennon some respect that he might just know what he is doing.

  13. A flawed attacking football system that floundered 7-1 in the CL, under BR pumped in another fitness friendly, – CQN posters did preview with a big, why?

Painful doesn’t cover it, Celtic’s fit but flawed 2 -7 -1 or whatever you see it as, doesn’t work in Europe not beyond Hamilton and NL will do well to quickly revert a more defensive but Barca beating side.

How can you switch off at K.O? I thought you were meant to switch on, lock down without football was bad, virtual season tickets could be worser, if Celtic switch off again for the big switch on, what could possibly go wrong with Switch it Aff, Switch it Oan?

Can see why Manchester City let Jeremie Frimpong go, Greg Taylor gives us the same option on the other flank, both ‘ too oui ‘

Jullien and Ajer firefighting for 90 plus minutes France or Spain Nice, Lyon or PSG it’s all the same, we’ll get rag dolled anywhere.

Full backs, as full backs, wingers as wingers, midfield ball winners, and other horses for courses.

    Same ole Celtic

    Bring on the Accies CSC

  14. That was bad and we were very poor. I know it’s pre-season and all that stuff but we were still very very poor. I had expected more.

  15. I don’t like to see Celtic losing any game – I’m realistic to know PSG are far superior in terms of quality…BUT when Neymar is mouthing off in front of the ref for 5mins and not one Celtic player shoves him away – I’m concerned. We are a team of winners , champions – is broony the only player in our squad who has the arrogance and confidence to do that? I don’t care who Neymar is – show him we are Celtic!

Maybe now your pathetic attacks and snide digs against our previous manager will cease. Once again when it comes to your football knowledge you are sadly lacking.

Despite adopting a more defence approach we were soundly beaten against a team on a different level. This Brendan bad, Neil Good agenda is tiresome and lacks respect, yes our pride was dented at the early exit but the club gave BR permission to speak to Leicester and we were largely compensated, 9M, when will we ever get that money again for a manager?

What you failed to omit from your main article was when PSG came to Celtic Park they were fired up like never before. The previous CL campaign they had destroyed Barcelona at home only to inexplicably lose the return leg.

I’ve never seen a team more determined to right that wrong, they also managed to score with every chance, wonder, Cavani goals the lot.

Just imagine they had been as fired up today!

  17. Well maybe I’m just on my own but if we played PSG in a competative game [not a training exhibition match] under Neil Lennon we would be far more competative than tonight.

Celtic looked short of fitness which is waht tonight was all about.

Ideally we would not be playing them tonight but with what has happened to the sporting world Lennon took the correct decision to just get the players as fit as he could this week in France.

Under the previous manager against PSG it was an absolute disgrace the way we lined up.

These different meetings cannot be compared at all…one was a meaningless friendly and one was a champions league mauling [actually both maulings..take your pick 0/5 or 7/1

  18. The big advantage that PSG and others they get huge sponsorships and people who have mega bucks to spend on quality football players, our club in that aspect are not at the races,we hope to find a gem or 2 get a good transfer fee ,but we rea don’t invest in a few quality players, and here lies one off the many problems ,Coaches are another problem, look at the coach at Leeds Utd a really good tactical coaches beside him,I Think we are ok in SPFl other than that zilch.

  19. maybe there was a clause pre match that we had not to tackle them because sure as night follows day we didn’t get near them tonight.

Agree that ultimately these 3 games don’t matter, but I watched all 3 closely, and was puzzled as to what we were trying to do. Were we trying to play it tight against Nice, Lyon and PSG, and then hit them on the break? It didn’t look like it. Were we trying to match them at their own game? We know how that worked out for Rodgers versus PSG. What I did see in 6 halves of football was that we lost a goal in 4 minutes to Dembele, one in 60 seconds to Sarabia, and one in 45 seconds to Mbappe. I have no idea who our defenders were watching. That tells me something about our focus and concentration, and our ability to learn, the presumed point of the exercise.

I watched both Sevco games in order to gauge how much of a threat they are going to be for us this season. The personnel of the opposition wasn’t always the same as ours, but Sevco played very tight at the back, allowed very few chances, and were devastating on the counter attack, scoring 4 without reply over two games, having several cleared off the line, and missing gilt edged chances.

Running a critical eye over them, they were better organized and better disciplined than we were. They don’t have better players, but if they use the same tactics, they will be very difficult to beat.

I believe in the maxim, “Know thy enemy.” We just cannot afford this season of all seasons to be complacent about them. After watching us concede 7 goals in 3 games ( and it could have been 14), we have very little time before the season starts to organize our defensive unit into some semblance of effectiveness.

  21. An Dun

Yes we definitely need a goalkeeper, no doubts, i also think a left back is a must.

A year ago I posted we needed a new striker, with Celtics quality compared to the rest of the SPFL the easiest way to win donestic games comfortably is with a 3-5-2.

Can we rely on Griffiths? I’m gutted to say that’s a no.

Can we rely on Klimala?unfortunately I don’t see this guy hitting the heights we need. May do a job at the very best.

Can we rely on Bayo? again nothing to suggest we can.

Why not loan out Bayo and if we can’t get a permanent signing good enough and I mean spending up towards to 10M as Edouards replacement, at least get a quality player from a big club on decent wages to try and get us over the line for CL qualification and help secure the 10, which will create history and claw back some of that money.

Are we doing enough and can we rely on our other strikers? so far its definitely a no from me.

  22. Lazy dynamite

That excuse cuts both ways, no way were PSG as fired up as when on CL duty, they also have a cup final at weekend, the truth is their quality dismantled us on both occasions, theirs your consistency.

  23. The Blogger Formerly Known As GM on

    My, oh my.

    Quite an over reaction tonight.

    Sleep well, all.

  24. As usual the fans have backed the club to the hilt.

I personally will spend £4K on a virtual season ticket for my household.

I really lack faith that the club has the leadership that can make us CL contenders.

We are content being also ran’s.

    It is soul destroying.

There is no ambition to make a European great again.

It cannot be done from playing in the SPFL.

We must get into a football league that pays much bigger TV revenues.

  25. Dont know if I am way off here, but I have noticed a change in Christie in the last few weeks.Watching him in interviews,Kit launch, and his attitude onfield,he seems to me,to be a wee bit, full of himself. That kid that burst onto the scene, full of smiles, seems to have gone.Very offhand at the launch,no great celebrations at goals, and contract talks, still ongoing.Just his body language,so different .Hope I am wrong.Could say the same about Ajer, but we know what’s going on there.

  26. Bhoyjoebelfast on

Watched the game.Master craftsmen v honest tradesmen. It could have been more, but we will be judged when the season is in full swing.

  27. You simply do not have to watch Sevco pre-season/training games to judge them against us.

Simply watch some ‘real’ games from earlier in the most recent SPL matches in 2020.

    No guess work required.

    Take your pick ..Hearts?,Hamilton?,Kilmarnock?,Aberdeen?

Nothing much has changed in either squad or team other than a really good goalkeeper ‘possibly’ might not be with us this season.

If he is not I will trust he will be replaced with a very good goalkeeper also.

So forgive me for not shitting myself about the pre-season cup hype.

  28. Turkeybhoy

Agree, with you about Christie is he miffed at his contract offer? hope not, these top Scottish players are invaluable to us, one to keep an eye on.

Hi Ghuys, Salve salve ; I never would expect to beat PSG, they are Harrods’ but we are John Lewis with a Poundland manager.
