  1. The transfer market has just opened and will remain so until end of October. Most leagues haven’t yet finished so there’s little chance of clubs selling or buying at the moment. What we’re seeing is the usual will we won’t we pre season scenarios, played out at this time every year. Celtic extended loads of contracts last year, hence why when we played last night it was with a settled squad the only omission being Broonie, and, of course, the selfishly unfit Griffiths. There will be ins and outs this close season as in every other, year. Some of our signings have still to hit the ground running, but what they did do was make sure that those already in those positions upped their game substantially in the second half of the season, so much so, that the points difference was 13 going on +20. We are not nine in a row winners by chance, but because we have managed our squad, ins and outs, with a degree of professionalism unmatched by many other clubs throughout the UK. It’s right to pick out the faults with several aspects of the way the PLC run the club, but, alas, its where we are. Treble treble winners and on they way to being quadruple winners. Once we get the right manager, the right player, in every position, the right CEO we will be unstoppable, oh wait a minute :))) por cierto.

  2. My friends in Celtic,

The game went as most of us had predicted. We do not do losing well on here , and rightly so. Acceptance of defeat or inferiority is never a good thing.

    However.

Losing to a magnificent team such as PSG is no disgrace.

    However,

Our fitness levels looked suspect. From what I saw last night LG should not have been the sole player flung under the proverbial bus.

    However,

What do we get from Lennoxtown? It is a world class facility, that frankly does not produce world class results. ( Watch PSG go to an even higher level when their new super duper training facilities open in 2022 )

It was correct to play PSG, and we should feel pride that PSG value our opposition. We have to compete against teams who financially dwarf us as opposed to gauging ourselves against teams who have a fraction of our resources.

France was a worthwhile exercise although it seems we came up short in all our objectives.

HH to all, the journey is just beginning.

    ___

PSG returned to training before we did and started their pre-season before we did.

I’m sure they will have various advantages over us when it comes to training facilities etc. Plus their elite level players are likely to be better athletes than ours.

I don’t think it’s a fair comparison. Wait for the Accies game to see where we are.

  4. If Celtic were to replace Peter Lawwell with somebody else these guys would hate the new guy as well.

The CEO will run the club the way the board will want it. The balance sheet is the way it is by design of Desmond and the rest of the board.

I really won’t entertain the views of people who think Peter Lawwell signs players. Absolute guff that’s never had any basis in reality.

  5. France was a worthwhile exercise although it seems we came up short in all our objectives.

That’s a nonsense. Getting use to playing again, playing competitively behind closed doors, getting match fitness, giving squad players minutes, seeing how players perform in a ‘safe environment’, bonding and team building, getting up to speed for the league and ECL qualifiers…

But I guess the Huns winning the prestigious Bin Cup has dented your horizons…

We are expected to beat Hamilton Accies and it will be dissatisfaction all round if we don’t.

But why gauge ourselves against Hamilton, a team whose academy was severely disabled with a recent large scale fraud.

I realise that we have only recently restarted using Lennoxtown, but do you think we get enough from this purpose built world class facility ?

    Cheers and HH.

    Why mention the huns ?

I don’t care about them, do you. ?

We compare ourselves to Hamilton because that’s our first competitive game. It’s not that complicated.

Our games against Nice, Lyon & PSG were to get some minutes in and improve fitness. If we are raring to go when the season starts then the preparation would have been a success.

Why compare ourselves to PSG? We’re never going to be on their level. As I said, they were back training before us, started pre-season before us and will benefit from elite training facilities etc.

It’s no surprise they were fitter. Who cares? It’s all about fitness and preparation.

  9. John Kennedy has no experience as a coach,he only puts the cones out!

I believe JK has more international caps than ” The Blessed One” correct me if I’m wrong. I believe Damien Duff about JK.

Like everything else open for discussion but please not the same old dirge day after day.

Try a new angle of attack.

Neil Lennon says he has no budget? I remember another team announced they had a 12 mm budget for a striker! For that one they got Totte Andre Flo. Best to keep quiet.

  10. RON67 on 22ND JULY 2020 9:35 AM

and so we now compare ourselves with Hamilton access , dearie dearie

    ____

Hamilton Accies are our first competitive game. Our friendlies were preparation for the competitive season.

If we beat PSG 4-0 last night but lost to Accies at home I doubt anybody would be happy with that.

We shouldn’t be comparing ourselves to PSG anyway. To them, we are Hamilton Accies.

If focussing on that part of my post takes away from your nonsense about ‘failing objectives’ then distract away buddy.

    HH

  12. lol. Loved some of the comments about JK. Hit a nerve

    A few points

    1. Jk was not involved in tactics under the snake. He was a fitness coach. Was not part of the inner coaching team. He was the man who put the cones out

    2. He is Peter lawells man Think it was stokes who said that if you wanted peter lawell to know anything you just spoke near JK

    3. Very little tactical experience. Happy to learn

    4. Peter lawell runs everything. Bitton was asked if he was getting a new contract , he said you better ask peter

    5. Peter lawell an accountant is responsible with buying players , who bought The Ukrainian ? It wasn’t BR. It was either lawell or the grounds man

    6. Every ceo in business is the same. What tosh. Pl is a cost cutting accounting CEO. Other CEO’s work different eh invest to get returns

    7. It was agreed on CQN last year that one of the reasons of our lack of spending our Large cash reserves was the lack of experience in our football department

But keep on believing in lawel if you want

    Show us the COVID figures.

  13. TIMALOY29 on 22ND JULY 2020 9:57 AM

I’m curious about what these objectives were beyond getting fitter.

    ————

The ultimate objective was to win. The secondary objectives were to compete straight from kick off, formulate and implement a game plan against class opposition, prove our fitness and have a morale boosting France trip.

Imo , we did not quite manage these objectives. Others may see it differently, and that is the value of comradely debate.

    Cheers and HH.

  14. Great to see you back SydneyTim.

You talk pish but you’re great entertainment.

I guess Celtic winning will see you disappear again but always fun to see you haven’t changed….

  15. I often see comparisons with Ajax on here, one question I have is

Is there any Celtic supporter that would accept not winning the League if it made us a better team longer term?

  16. Greenpinata – “France was a worthwhile exercise although it seems we came up short in all (ALL – my emphasis) our objectives”.

Now downgraded to ‘did not quite manage these objectives’, in a one-off game, in Paris town.

Glad we cleared that up then :)

  17. N.F.L.

We were playing against a world-class side. We didn’t get off to the best of starts, but I thought after that, for about 30/35 minutes, we were a match and we played some really good football.

“I’m so disappointed we didn’t get a goal because I thought our play deserved one.

“But that’s as stiff an examination as you’re going to get, so in terms of a working exercise on the physical side of the game, the mental side and the concentration side of it, that’s as good as it gets. I’m really pleased with a lot of aspects of the game.”

He added: “It was really tough for the players and then PSG changed their full team at half-time. I think some of our players needed the game.

“The players have only really had one full game going into this one, so I think they’ll benefit from it.

“It’s a been a terrific quality of teams that we’ve played over the last four or five days and I think that’ll stand us in good stead going forward.”

  18. “It’s a been a terrific quality of teams that we’ve played over the last four or five days and I think that’ll stand us in good stead going forward……..

But my aplogies go out to those on CQN for us failing to register a simple 16-0 victory against Translyvania’s 105th placed team…..”

    Fixed that for ya.

The ultimate objective of pre-season friendlies it to prepare the team physically for the season ahead. The results are not important.

Morale isn’t what’s important. If we lost to Hamilton Accies on the first day I doubt anybody would be saying “At least we won the Veolia Trophy”

The result of these games are irrelevant.

The friendly last night wasn’t the test of fitness. It was an exercise in improving fitness.

As I said, the real fitness test is when competitive football restarts. That’s Hamilton Accies and beyond.

  20. I don’t see any point in getting upset about a match against PSG. We are geared up as a club to win the SPFL and not much more. This has been proven time and time again as we have fallen in Europe to teams with lesser resources. The Scottish game is a joke (quality, fitness, mentality and tactically) but in many ways that suits us as we will continue to dominate in Scotland and that will keep the majority supporters happy. The Board don’t have the vision or the determination to take the club to another level. There is no evidence to support an alternative view in recent years. We can dominate in Scotland and be successful in Europe but we don’t have the necessary skillset, knowledge and experience and any level of the club to do both.

  21. The friendly last night wasn’t the test of fitness. It was an exercise in improving fitness.

don’t know about a test of fitness , I would have thought an ideal opportunity to test our defensive and midfield shape as a unit against European opposition but imo we failed miserably , all over the place docent look like we learnt anything from previous.

  22. The problem with arguing over the board and Lawwell is that you are arguing against people’s imagination

Imaginary 20 million strikers firing Celtic into the Europa League final etc.

Being the dominant force in Scotland and an also-ran in Europe is our level. We shouldn’t have lost to Copenhagen or Cluj but there are always reasons specific to each game.

Football was suspended in March. You better believe that physical fitness is a priority going into this season where there will be no winter break.

This season will be our biggest fitness test in years.

Matching up with one of the best teams in Europe isn’t the first thing on Neil Lennon’s mind. Nor should it be on anyones.

PSG are in another league and its not worth losing sleep over.

  24. Getting into the Champions League is always our objective. Reason – – money obviously but so we can get better players who fancy CL competition. Like everyone like us I hate Celtic losing but, we played a very , very good side and lost. Would you rather we played cannon fodder and win every game by a country mile? No, of course not. We play the likes of PSG to see and guage how far, or not , we have come and what we must aspire to.

    Have a nice day. Y’all

    KINGLuBO

  25. Reports here we’re playing Derry City at home on Saturday afternoon I don’t suppose there’s any chance it will be on Celtic tv?

  26. It would have been good to play an English championship side this weekend but they are still in their season. Don’t think Port Vale are busy. 🤭

  27. Incredible some fans.Myself and a couple of others mentioned Calmac, was poor last night. As if that’s a horrendous thing to say.Hands thrown up in horror.Unless we are now adopting a policy of nothing classed as bad can ever be said about any of our players, then they are on the wrong blog.We all have our favorites,Calmac, one of mine, does not mean they are above any comments,if they play poorly.

And he was pretty poor last night. For a good spell of the game, the team were not.Played some lovely football against a fantastic team.If final ball better from numerous bye line crosses, could have had a better result.

At least we were getting there.

  28. Would it be better to play against inferior teams and score loads of goals, conceding none? I believe that we learn far more by facing really good opposition, whether we win lose or draw. Pre-season is about experience and fitness, much of this will have been achieved in France. Our season is all about winning the SPL, not only this very important season but every season. We already know that we need a goalkeeper, the rest of the squad, if retained, are good enough to dominate domestically. Hail Hail.

I really cannot understand why you are so constantly critical of Celtic. I feel that that response is usually because of a strong desire to see our team to do well. When they are being unsuccessful, then negativity is understandable but when the unparalleled success of the last few years is considered, then continuous criticism seem ill placed.

Of course critical comments are fine but balance is essential.

    Turkeybhoy

I don`t think anyone criticised your opinion that Calmac had a poor game last night. The way others expressed their views might have drawn the response to which you refer.
