It’s all politics. Not actual politics, in the strict definition of the word, but clubs’ dealings with the SPFL and SFA is mostly about politically manoeuvring in the direction to win your argument.
Experienced political operators will tell you not to fight the same people on too many points; pick the important areas to win and take a few defeats on the chin. Box the SPFL into a corner by not charging season ticket holders for entry into play-off matches, and you’re onto a sure win. But all SPFL clubs are members of the SFA.
They all like being given their place. If I wanted something important from the SFA, like exemption from the rule prohibiting directors of a liquidated club from subsequently becoming a club director, I’d concentrate on that and ask politely for permission to let season ticket holders into games.
But I realise there are different types of political animal. The consensus political animal is effective in certain times, then there are those who have a self-righteous tone to rules. It’s their way or the highway. To paraphrase Bob Shankly, pure, athletic, Thatcherism. Britain wasn’t ready for Thatcherism 30 years ago. She won in 1979 and lost lots of votes second time around in ’83, but the Labour vote split. The 80s were lean. For some.
Scottish football is in for a period where a self-righteous entity will muster its forces. The media coverage will reflect what we saw in politics in the 80s. The consensus operators must stand firm and unite.
Thanks to all who entered the Magners completion for premium tickets to the Dundee game tomorrow night, the winner will be notified within the next 30 mins, so check your email!

Macjay1 – where did it ultimately lead?
Your narrative of the 70’s is gash too.
MACJAY
When you DON’T focus on the specifics as you suggest, you get the likes of Thatcher.
Do you mind if I ask when you left the UK?
I see that Glasgow Airport’s (most successful football team in the world ) shop is to close.
Another world record.

How quickly should Scotland have FFA?
Will we better off with it?

One of the 70% – when you tell the SNP to f off do you reckon they’ll go away and become unionists or hide? Why don’t you try reasoning with them? Use the power of argument and thought.

Cheers pal. He just told me that he is prepared to step down a division to gain first team fitba. He and other coaches believed he was ready for DU first team.
Fingers crossed it works out.

33′ Another period of Falkirk pressure sees Blair and O’Hara get shots in at goal but Fasan saves well.

What do the bookies say? They’re not usually wrong (Ernie from the Ref vote)
There will be some very sore unionists on the Friday morning… (sort of Ernieism)
Nobody will be waking up to a Tory or a Labour govt on the Friday because neither will have an overall majority. Govt will have to be on a shared basis because one of the bigger parties will require small party support to progress.
With a bit of luck the Labour bloody nose in Scotland will mean the end for Jim Murphy and an opportunity to move leftwards and a chance to recover votes.
To link to football, Celtic supporters will vote for most parties in this election including the Tories and UKIP. I suspect DUP might be a bridge too far.
What is encouraging is that post election, the Westminster Establishment might have taken a wee dunt which would be a good thing.

Wage envy? Poor argument.
Some pigs are more equal than others. I accept that. What I won’t accept is me and mine never being given the chance to be equal.
Labour gave us that. People say Labour has failed.
You know what? Labour was too successful.
It set out to drag people from poverty. Provide proper housing. Education. Health care. Employment. All the things that you could possibly need including a decent pension provision.
Unfortunately.
Labour policies ended up so successful that a few generations later, the fruit of their achievements became clear.
People were now comfortable. And wanted to remain so. They didnae want other people climbing up the same ladder they had used.
Result-Thatcher.
Writing was on the wall forty years ago. Her legacy lives on.

So true mate, great post.
As I said earlier, I was given the chance of an education by Labour and I am so grateful for the life that chance gave me.
The people who are taking a punt on SNP in the hope that Scotland then becomes ‘socialist’ are deluded.
Scotland has always been Conservative with a small C, where are these left leaning politicians hiding that will lead us all to that promised land?
The red Tories are going to get a kick in baws they badly need
Siding with Tories at the referendum was always going to come back & haunt them

Have the Deady Bears the readies for this month’s wages?
Did the RRM stump up again?
Wonder if the John Guidetti and Dave King ‘verdicts’ get announced simultaneously?
Coolmore Mafia.@ 13 50.
That 5 – 1 loss to Dundee was horribly memorable.Humped by a team heading for relegation..More colander than sieve .Missed a penalty .
45′ Nesbitt darts to the front post and clips a header to the back post but it’s off the bar and out for a goal kick.
Just bited the bullet.

BSR – Got a good picture of the zombie shop in Belfast before it went to the wall there, on the fone – Clothing down sale wrote in cheap black paint.
Also have a picture of one of the other Belfast Deadco shops that closed on one of my old phones – shutters down with a to let sign above the Deadco name and crest.
They never seem to learn. That’s about three or four shops they have opened over the years – all went the same way.
In saying that I noticed a new Liverpool shop in town today – they had two that closed down – Manchester United had a shop as well – it went the same way.
The Celtic shop is the only one that stood the test of time – and long may it continue.
Sport shop across the street could have Celtic tops on sale maybe a tenner cheaper than the Celtic shop – the Celtic supporters just ignore that and buy their pluck in the Celtic store.

I would guess, from the lack of noise down Govan way, that the answer is yes they have been paid however now that they are off the AIM they have no obligation to reveal anything.

If the Tories have the largest number of seats they, as the outgoing government, get the first chance to cobble together some sort of coalition.
So every seat the SNP gets at the expense of Labour makes that more likely.
Which suits the Tories and the SNP.

I don’t believe that Scots Labour demise has a great deal to do with their being part of the No campaign. Even if the SNP win every seat in Scotland only 54% of the electorate will have voted for them (according to the statistics gurus). Labours decline has everything to do with their turning into a clone of the Conservatives and supporting a lot of the Tories welfare cuts. Socialism has become a dirty word in the Labour party. New Labour equates to conservatism with a small c. Perhaps those Scots who used to vote Labour are thoroughly disillusioned by the massive swing to the right within the party since Blair became leader. With no other viable options I am not in the least surprised at possibility of the mass defection of Scots labour voters to the SNP.

Denayer too small and light to be a CB in EPL IMO.He might make it as a defensive MF,another year up here, specially if we get to CL,would suit all parties.
