Qarabag assistant suggests defensive tactics

410

Qarabag assistant manager, Avtandil Hajiyev, spoke to the media ahead of tomorrow’s game against Celtic. This is what he had to say:

“Celtic were strong favourites before the first leg but the 0-1 score suggests that nothing is over yet. The main struggle for both teams lies ahead.

“It’s a pity the game was not on TV as you would have seen that we had the advantage.

“We played well throughout the game, although you could not point to one single area where we were most dominant, but there were periods when Qarabag were on top. If you take the game as a whole, we performed better than Celtic.

“A small defeat away was a good result. Celtic are strong, they even managed to beat Barcelona at home. Eorpean clubs have difficulty at Celtic Park, but we provided decent resistance. 0-1 is not so depressing, we can achieve a result this week which will allow us to progress.

“Tactically, there is little difference between a 0-0 and a 0-1 defeat. We know we have to score one goal with either result to stay in the tie, so our approach will not change because of the goal.

“The return game will also be defensive but we will attack more. The Scots know and have probably already analysed our attacks, but I believe Gurban Gurbanov (Qarabeg manager) will have a few surprises in attack.

“The players have had time to analyse what happened in the first game. Our preparations are complete.

“Celtic can score in Baku but I believe the Qarabag defence will play safe and keep their goal intact.”

It’s a pity we all missed those periods when Qarabag were on top.

almore …. not celtic related, but your post about the decorative garden ornament got me thinking …. I recently bought a ‘garden noam’ chomsky for my garden … yes, there is a guy in oregon who makes garden gnomes in the likeness of noam chomsky.

everytime I look into my back garden, and see the little guy holding his copy of manufacturing consent, scaring away raccoons and republicans, it makes me laugh.

Your computer is struggling to load everything on CQN and after tomorrow you should find that things improve.

We have tested the site extensively on all sorts of devices and have hopefully got to the bottom of the problems. Newer devices aren’t an issue but we want to make sure everyone can get on CQN.

I mentioned last night that the overall audience has increased and that continues. How many Celtic supporters read the agenda driven tabloids?

Now the answer is less than reads CQN.

    Papers

A third of people in Scotland have given up on reading daily newspapers in the space of 15 years, figures suggest.

Data from the Scottish Social Attitudes survey indicates that regular newspaper readership fell from 76% of Scots in 1999 to 41% in 2014.

Meanwhile, 33% of people surveyed said they checked online news or newspaper websites at least once a day last year.

The age profile of regular newspaper readers has also been highlighted as a concern for traditional media outlets.

The attitudes study is run by ScotCen Social Research and measures changes in opinion and behaviour.

Do you regularly read one or more daily morning newspapers?

    1999 2004 2009 2012 2014

    YES 76% 62% 54% 49% 41%

    NO 24% 38% 46% 51% 59%

It found that regular daily newspaper readership stood at 76% at the turn of the century, slipped down to hover above 50% six years ago, before dropping further to 41% by last year.

Sales figures for newspapers covering the end of 2014 show a decline across almost all major titles.

Recent statistics from the Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC) indicate readership between July and December 2014 dropped by between 4% and 11% on the same time the year before.

A number of titles report extra online and subscription figures in Scotland – with The Herald, Press and Journal, Scottish Sun and The Times all operating full or part subscription models.

    Average Scottish print sales

Sales (July to December 2014) Change from July to December 2013

    The Courier 47,000 -7%

    The Herald 37,000 -5%

    Press and Journal 60,300 -5%

    The Scotsman 26,300 -11%

    Scottish Sun 235,000 -9%

    Daily Record 197,900 -10%

    Daily Express 53,700 -13%

    Daily Mail 91,500 -4%

    Daily Telegraph 17,000 -9%

    The Guardian 9,700 -10%

    The Times 18,800 +1%

In the attitudes survey figures on online news use, a third of people reported checking in on news websites several times a day or every day, with 11% several times a week and another 7% at least once a week.

In terms of age, the 25-44 year old age group accessed online news the most, with 65 and over the least likely to use the internet for news.

    ‘Steep decline’

Rachel Ormston, head of attitudes at ScotCen Social Research, said: “It’s clear that the way we consume news is constantly evolving, with 1 in 3 of us now reading news online on a daily basis.

“While this figure still lags behind the 4 in 10 who say they read a daily newspaper regularly, newspapers’ struggles for sales are reflected in the very steep decline in regular readers we have recorded over the last 15 years.

“And the ageing profile of regular newspaper readers means that this decline may well continue: newspapers will need to be increasingly fleet footed to compete with online rivals, particularly where the latter are free of charge.”

  14. Dangerous to look too far ahead, granted.

But would u welcome Rapid Vienna or Dynamo Zagreb in knock out round.

Shows how tough qualifying is, that Ajax pumped out.

  15. I take it we avoid Monaco in knock outs (if we get through). Because are seeded and so are they ??

  17. I’m happy big Craig Gordon is fit. I think he is a truly world-class keeper. He gives the back line confidence, and unlike Boruc and Big Fraser, looks comfortable coming off his line. The back-up goalie is no slouch either. Tough game to call, but Celtic will score at some point. We’ll see how Charabanc are like without parking the bus.

  25. A rare occurrence for me but I just watched the BBC News there. Ted Heath, is that who Traveller Bhoy was referring to? Despite my age, I can’t believe someone like him was the leader of a country let alone a local (Conservative) club.

Traveller Bhoy: hope you are well and that justice prevails
