Question of today, was Doncaster being honest?

136

All eyes are on whether or not Neil Doncaster will be asked to step down at the Scottish Premier League annual general meeting, which is underway at the moment, after he threatened to renege on the SPL’s legal obligations to the Scottish Football League.

It may seem obvious that he has to go but don’t be so sure that he will.  Nothing that Doncaster has said previously suggests he will easily be shamed into an act of honour, and several Gang of 10 clubs were behind his attempts to railroad the SFL into doing their dirty work.

The smart money is on him ‘doing an Ogilvie’, refusing to go voluntarily and removing the toxicity he adds to the situation from the body he represents.

In many respects it doesn’t really matter if he stays or goes right now.  If he goes the chances of the SPL recruiting a candidate with the required ability is approaching zero, it is perhaps better that he stays to explain himself.

What I’m more interested in is Doncaster’s predicted Armageddon.  In telling Scottish Football League clubs the SPL would be unable to meet the terms of the Settlement Fee they are due, he implied the top league would be insolvent today.

Question is, was he being honest? That’s a rhetorical question, no need to cast doubts of Mr Doncaster’s character.

The ticket office is open today until 16:00.  If you’ve not renewed or bought a season ticket yet, get along now!  Play your part in the fan-led rebirth of Scottish football.

One day you will be asked, ‘Granda, what did you do in the fight against corruption and cheating in Scottish football?’ Make sure you can answer, ‘I stood firm and made sure Celtic flourished’.

P.S. Buy a season ticket!!

The stadium and surrounding area approaching from the new road next to the Velodrome/Indoor Arena is stunning.

I know it’s a small thing, but if you can access CP easily, and get away quite quickly, it makes the day out seem a lot better. Getting to use the car park at the Velodrome/ Indoor Arena should benefit greatly. This should also free up parking spaces in the usual side streets.

    ————————————–

I drove up the new road yesterday just for a look see, and thinking to myself, where might it be easier to park during the new season.

I agree with you, the new aspect looking at the park is simply fantastic.

    The stadium looks collosal.

The new road, will over time become tree lined, and hopefully the shop gets moved.

Allthough , the massive banners on the store just now declaring “Glasgow is Green and White ” are magic, their magic, the writings on the wall.

Also, a daft wee point, but GDC have put up lots of pavement signposts declaring walking and cycling distances in the various directions.

These are all in Old Corporation Green White and Gold.

I cant wait to get back to the football.

  2. Just back from a trip to Rome so catching up. Saw the leaked e mail from s regan and was astounded by it’s contents.

Has any club official made any comment on it or is silence all around?

  3. Steve in Dunfermline: “I’m popping out for lunch. Does anyone want anything? Stevie, hold fire on any announcements until I get back.”

I’ll let Neil Doncaster know to hold off till you get back…

Isn’t technology great… I just did my latin homework in two minutes using Google Translate.

  4. My take on Victor A great prospect at the moment, good bit to go before he is the finished article. Better to stay with us for the time being,.

  5. Why is there a meeting to discuss who takes Rangers(IA) soon to be Rangers(IL) place? In his leaked email Regan specifically states it will be Dundee:

    1. The Rangers Football Club will be relegated to the 1st Division of the SFL with immediate effect and will be replaced in the SPL by Dundee FC.

Then again the first element of this item didn’t happen so does that render the rest of it bollox?

    SJ

  6. leftclicktic – it doesn’t matter about them handing the share over. There are in fact 16 SPL shares, not 12. Dundee could be issued one of the other ones

  7. It would be a crying shame to lose Victor Wanyama, last year he promised so much in our young team and he’ll be a big star some day, if we need the dosh then I’d rather it was Ki.

SPL just announced; Dundee to take Rangers’ place, and SPL will “work with” SFA and SFL to facilitate Rangers in Div 3. So no breakaway SPL2

Here are the two big statements from the SPL release:

“It was agreed that the SPL would work with the Scottish FA, SFL and Rangers to facilitate Rangers FC taking their place in SFL Division 3 this season.

“It was agreed that Dundee FC would be invited to fill the space vacated by Rangers FC in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League.”

A massively scaled back Sevco operation would cost about £10M per year to run before first team players.

It would be less expensive to mothball the operation for a year and re-emerge into the new framework that will inevitably be in place for next season.

Risk is that Sevco is gazumped for the ‘hearts and minds’ of the fans in the meantime by some Continuity Gers or another.

No easy decision for Charlie or his investors.

How about we get on with administering the correct punishments for BREAKING them?

  13. Do you think it will be

    A. Dunfermline

    B. Dundee

    C.deadclub

    D. 11 team league to leave the ludge secret door open for them.

    at close of play today.

I think it should be Dunfermline the should not have been relegated with all the shennanigans of deadclub.

RL/TBB – I agree that they won’t be playing anywhere this season and there will be some sort of reconstruction to usher them back in next summer, but in the meantime….let the civil war commence! :-)

    T4

  16. TBB – absolutely. The numbers just do not work in Division 3 for them at all. They could now very well be entering a literal death spiral.

If some hunsortium appears and buys a D1 club then we will be eating Jelly & Ice Cream for some considerable time.

It is a long way back for them, if it is even possible at all.

  17. So after all that Rangers (newbies) look like they will be playing football this year after all.

    Or will they?

Fuel to your fire- I’ve posted before but it is relevant to your post..

I have a pal who is a major Hun and corporate supporter of RFC. He told me his corporate package (4 seats) cost him £14k last year. In addition he personally sponsored a first team player ( now departed) so that he could get his company name on the players shirt collar..

All in all a hefty annual investment that he could easily justify as he said winning 1 contract on the back of it more than covered costs. He’s in oil industry.

I asked him if he would be supporting Newco. He said ‘no – I will sponsor community level football and spot purchase corporate tickets in EPL.

He is a big Hun (2nd) big businessman (1st) which is why he has the choice to invest or not.

I don’t think the corporate body see association with Sevco as being ‘good for business’. To be honest, I would expect some of Hun lost sponsors to move to Parkhead… Even for just European games.

I share your interest in wondering if they can afford to run a team. Income is the least of their problems.. Unless they can sell Ibrox and ground share with someone …

    Facilitate ?.

As in -make easy or easier ?.

What is being done to make what easy /easier for them ?

I think we should be told.

  21. I’ve asked this previously, why are the SPL, SFL, SFA still making official statements referencing ‘Rangers Football Club’? Are they no deid?

Also, no surprise it’s Dundee. They can sell to Sky/ESPN as a derby to replace the ‘Old Firm’ one.

    SJ

  22. So Dundee are up, what’s next on the agenda to clean up the game..

Sack Doncaster, Regan and Ogilvie, sounds good to me..

Sevco will self destruct for a lack of funds which is more than they deserve…

  23. Rogue Leader

You have hit the nail right on the head! The delays, the prevarications, the chicanery and the shenanigans we have witnessed since February were all about saving Rangers, nothing at all to do with the welfare of Scottish football. The CVA will be achieved, whoops, ok let them stay in the SPL, whoops, ok they will have to drop down to SFL 1, whoops! McCoist might believe Sevco will emerge stronger than Rangers FC ever were, but he is deluding himself. Bummer Brown is probably more in touch with reality than McCoist.

just over 5 months since the Huns went into administration. what a 5 months. should have been unbridled joy but the threat of a stitich-up cast a shadow.

a season (must be 2) with no Huns or their successors in top flight football – the stuff of childhood dreams. absolutely fantastic.

  26. So who takes Dundee’s place in div 1? Who takes their place in div 2?I know who’s in div 3! Ha Ha Ha!

  27. from the BBC coverage:

“Colin, Gers fan in Argyll: “Totally appropriate that a team that has been in Admin twice for financial mismanagement replaces one rightly demoted for it!!” ”

Wrong Colin, a club that has been in Administration twice and managed to trade themselves out of it have replaced a club that was unable to trade out of administration and will be liquidated. A new club that has purchased some of the to be liquidated clubs assets has been fast tracked into the SFL without undergoing the lengthy and exhaustive application process (or having SFA membership).

If someone would be so kind as to send that into the BBC I’d be grateful lol. off out to get my lads their new celtic kits, and mayhaps, a couple of STs

  28. Has anyone ever won SFL3 with a 13-man squad, two of whom are goalies?

Fair play. If they pull that off it will be quite an achievement.

Does TFPLG think he will be on £500k a year to manage a Div 3 team? He will be walking away soon.
