Question Peter will ask Brendan in May

290

Can we step back for a moment and look at Brendan Rodgers considerations for Odsonne Eduard this season?  In May, Peter Lawwell is going to ask the manager if he wants to pay PSG €10m to make his transfer permanent.

To answer that question Brendan will need to a firm view on how Odsonne compares to other candidates, with similar profiles to him and Olivier Ntcham.  They will all be a risk, but the manager needs to strengthen his team, so he must give himself the best possible information before committing.

One of the benefits of playing in Scotland is that we can afford to give a young talent an extended run in the team without affecting our title chances.  We can make changes which will have a negative impact on short-term performances, but will improve our long-term prospects.

There is another side of the player acquisition equation to consider.  Brendan had to convince Odsonne and Olivier that Celtic was the right club for them.  To do this, he pointed to Moussa Dembele, who was given his chance.  What young players attached to tier-one wealthy clubs want more than anything else (apart from money) is a game time.

Whether Odsonne makes it at Celtic or not, you can be sure Brendan will point to the opportunities he has to make an impression when he speaks to other targets.

Over the last 48 hours our lead at the top of the table went from 8 to 11 points, while giving a young player time on the field.  Leigh and Moussa know the script and are happy to concentrate on their own game, while allowing the manager to worry about youth development.

Looking at the past 5 results when we have hit the slump again, we have collected 13 points from 15. Our 2 closest rivals have collected 7 each. So our lead has increased by 6 points recently. Not a bad situation for a team that is seemingly going backwards!

As for CL Footy change our Season’s too start @ the beginning

of March each year & finish before Christmas by doing it this

way we have over a two month break if we don’t see European

Footy beyond Christmas & we are much better prepared to

face teams with some of them with names you have never heard of

which are half way through there Season come July & are better

prepared than us @ that particular time & it would be batter as

a whole for not just us but also the rest of the Teams in the SPFL &

also Scotland’s coefficient record in Europe as well it’s a no brainer

Also it knocks out January weather wise is a Baltic month here in

the west coast of Scotland yeah Mr Frost/Snow/Gail Force Winds

& Heavy Rain also we don’t get proper Summers here anymore

  8. Can you coach composure into a player?

If Odsonne had shown more composure on Tuesday he could have had 1 goal and 2 assists.

He went for goal instead of slipping the ball to Sinclair, Forest or McGregor who were all better placed to score.

With his back heel on goal he had an option to pass to Ajer who was to his right, had lost his man and was 3 yds from & facing goal.

Odsonne is energetic, mobile & always wants the ball – but he needs to develop the awareness & composure that seemed to be missing against Thistle.

    WDH,

Strange topic for a Thistle v Celtic game.

A couple of years ago, my Surrey based brother arranged a meet up in Glasgow.

We factored in a Saturday home game and booked respective flights accordingly.

Getting turfed out of the CL meant our Saturday game was rearranged for the Sunday, meaning a revised flights and an extra day in Glasgow.

To fill in on the Saturday, we took the opportunity to vist our parents’ grave in St. Kentigerns’ and decided to go to the THistle v M’well game at Firhill.

Queen’s Cross is not the most salubrious area for pubs and we didn’t want to move too far from the ground.

We had a pint inone pub and headed to the ground.

There were two lads standing at the Club entrance and we approached them to ask where we could get a decent pint.

Picture Jack and Victor from Still Game.

The doormen led us to their memebers club where we were made very welcome and in the park, we had a great chat with one of ther ST holders, who gave us a running commentry on the Jags’ players.

All in all, a lovely day out.

Good news on the OBaF Act – well done to those who voted to repeal.

    Now goes to Committee Stage…

Good & Common Sense that OBA Bill should never have been passed

in the first place what a load of cobblers & waste of taxpayers money

I certainly did went onto the petition website & voted against said silly

bill which should be scrapped & end of said matter once & for all

  14. A big thanks to HT and all those who worked so courageously to have the OBaF Act overturned. Yes, it is only round one but a good start.

  15. I haven’t paid much attention to the orcs result or the reaction to it. I figured any result would be good for us. Take the hatred factor out of it and the win for them was the best result for us.

I wonder if that has dawned on them?

These little periods of good results and the hope it gives them is brilliant. They’ll be thinking they can win the cup and put in a challenge next season. The former is feasible but unlikely. The latter is a pipe dream.

I’m reminded in this window of Tony mowbrays jamuary window. We looked like we’d done great business. And to some extent we had. Turns out though that securing the services of a number of players who look like an improvement might just not be all it’s cracked up to be.

Anyhoo the dons still need a good boot in the tender parts for once more meekly surrendering to an Ibrox club. Their rivalry and hatred of the appears to be a bit of a myth born in the mid 80’s. Both Ibrox clubs have had the Indian sign on the sheep since then.

  16. I see that a few days after Zenit destroyed Colenhagen, they have done the same to Slavia Prague (5-1). Couple that with the fact that our play post-Dubai does not look much different from pre-Dubai, and I start to get an uneasy feeling that we may be in for another European humiliation.

Anybody think we look any different since the break? Pre Dubai, we couldn’t take a decent corner or direct free kick, and seem paralyzed when we have a throw in. Post Dubai, we have had one decent corner from McGregor, who promptly put the next one into touch. Sinclair either couldn’t beat the first man or placed it into the goalie’s hands. As soon as Griffiths came on, he assumed responsibility, and also failed to put in an effective corner.

Free kicks are a joke. We had three players in a row balloon the ball into Row Z against Brechin. I just watched a clip of Beckham ( how old is he?) coaching young American kids, and effortlessly clipping one free kick after another into either postage stamp, time after time. It is pretty obvious that no Celtic player practices this since Nada left. Griffiths has scored 3, and 2 belters for Scotland, but our production from direct free kicks is negligible.

Throw ins are still farcical. No one except Tierney is allowed to take them on the left, even when a quick throw is on. Then Keenan is left hopelessly waiting for the first Subbuteo man to move, usually after the crowd gets restless.

All basic stuff, leaving me wondering what was worked on in Dubai?

I also get the sense that expectations re the transfer window (whether justified or not) are being managed by articles such as ‘right deal or no deal.’ This is exacerbated by the historical fact that Celtic never seem to strengthen from a position of dominance. We sell Virgil and bring in………..Cifti. The thought that a Club like Celtic cannot bring 1 or 2 players directly into the team to strengthen it is simply ludicrous. Teams at all levels all up and down the land are doing it. Financial jiggery-pokery or no, Sevco are now much stronger than they were, and Murty will face us in Govan in March with a team with more ability than the those he managed to two draws at Celtic Park.

Of more concern is the repeated lack of planning. We missed out on Coetzee because we left it to the last minute, and had no Plan B when he failed a medical. We are now in the last few days of the window. What’s to stop that happening again? Where is the planning for the CL qualifiers? Gambling that we can eke our way through 4 rounds to reach the Group Stage with our present resources is unfathomable. It is simply not going to happen.

We may still pull 2 rabbits out the hat by the end of the month, but cynicism is gaining the upper hand. I really hope I am wrong.

“We want to strengthen that’s pretty clear, but qulity is important, you know I could have brought in 15 players by now but what I’m after is quality. Genuine quality that is going to help us, not just domestically but it in our European ventures this season and beyond that.

So the club is working very hard to look at the targets we want to bring in and hopefully we can do that between now and the end of the window”.

  19. TONTINE TIM @ 4:15 PM,

Yes, it’s interesting the way Mike Ashley was “pro-actively” treated.

Then when he made an official request to the SFA for permission to increase his (agreed) stake in Sevco, it was rejected. There was then further action taken against him in regard to his influence on the Club… he was subsequently fined and censured.

Leaving the way for an unlawful bid by RRMen to take over the Club, some if whom, apart from mounting the said unlawful bid should have (by the SFA rules) been barred from holding Office at the Club anyways.

Great news on the OBaF, well done to all who pushed for this, onwards and upwards.

If the latter did, and we paid over 2M for him, why loan him out? Why not pay a bit more for someone who will go directly into the first team? Strategy is Inexplicable.

Listening to Radio Clyde tonight they have spent every minute of the 20 they have been on air in utter glowing lavish praise about this new rangers team.Pundits and callers alike.I dont think i have ever heard such gushing praise and comprehensive coverage of it……Sounds like they are 11 points clear not 11 points behind.Even in those dark days of the early 1990s I do not seem to recall being that interested in the importance of being in second place .If we went 11 points behind we were getting pelters from everyone including our own fans.

Inquitousiv, I know Nagging Doubt can contagious,

You are right we need to work on our set pieces @ free kicks we should mix it like laying the

ball away from the defensive wall & having a go @ goal by either opening up ones body

before striking the ball or getting ones body over the ball @ impact instead of leaning back

produce a peach the rest well watch out Row-‘Z’ incoming football as for your take on

our throw-ins, yes you are also right they are also a joke players should make themselves

available instead of standing around like Lamps (Lamp Shades) as for your take on Dodgy

& Skint FC bringing in all those wonder signings na I don’t think all these Loanees & a big

Signing from Hamilton will make them a force to be recon with we will see how many
