Question Peter will ask Brendan in May

290

Can we step back for a moment and look at Brendan Rodgers considerations for Odsonne Eduard this season?  In May, Peter Lawwell is going to ask the manager if he wants to pay PSG €10m to make his transfer permanent.

To answer that question Brendan will need to a firm view on how Odsonne compares to other candidates, with similar profiles to him and Olivier Ntcham.  They will all be a risk, but the manager needs to strengthen his team, so he must give himself the best possible information before committing.

One of the benefits of playing in Scotland is that we can afford to give a young talent an extended run in the team without affecting our title chances.  We can make changes which will have a negative impact on short-term performances, but will improve our long-term prospects.

There is another side of the player acquisition equation to consider.  Brendan had to convince Odsonne and Olivier that Celtic was the right club for them.  To do this, he pointed to Moussa Dembele, who was given his chance.  What young players attached to tier-one wealthy clubs want more than anything else (apart from money) is a game time.

Whether Odsonne makes it at Celtic or not, you can be sure Brendan will point to the opportunities he has to make an impression when he speaks to other targets.

Over the last 48 hours our lead at the top of the table went from 8 to 11 points, while giving a young player time on the field.  Leigh and Moussa know the script and are happy to concentrate on their own game, while allowing the manager to worry about youth development.

I stand 100% with the public comments today from Jim McInally manager of Peterhead FC. Bold words from a Celt who should be plying his trade with us now.

Hope he remembers his goal at Celtic Park for the reserve team, when he took the ball on the left touchline in front of the dugout then danced through the opposition and scored with a right foot shot. Think it was Thistle. Signing Brian Whittaker was a huge mistake.

  2. Roma, Marseille, Palace and Newcastle all linked with Moussa. I reckon it’s 50/50 whether he stays or goes.

John McGinn is very unlikely unless he plays a blinder at the weekend.

Jack Hendry, I think there is a good chance that will happen. Dundee will probably take a million quid for him in the end.

As for anyone else, I think we are probably looking at players under the radar in England. 18-23 years old, with a similar profile to Ntcham. Jon Flanagan would have been ideal but unlikely now due to the personal issues. Musonda I think is unlikely. But something along those lines.

It’s not all bad, Roberts, Rogic, Armstrong, Compper and possibly Moussa have all to come back in soon with Ralston and Michael Johnston showing promise. The young players could well fill the gaps if we don’t sign anybody.

HT, well done, yerself and the rest of the FAC contingent HH

The two folk that you mention above, and the others within those circles, should be, inside, the Celtic FC tent, rather than have to battle from outwith the tent.

I offer one example of what I mean.

Had, JF and PQ, and their ilk, been holding the reins of Celtic FC,…….do you think they would have collapsed, wilted, and took the easy ride way out and, attended a shame-game summit, on the basis of, Celtic having 3 players booked ?

Or, do you think, like I do, that, JF and PQ, would have called a media conference, with no biased ‘local’ media allowed, and, announced, the rest of the world, exactly why, Celtic FC, would ‘not’ be attending a summit, which was used to whitewash, exactly why, Rangers FC, came to Celtic Park and, attempted, but failed, to kick Neil Francis Lennon’s Celtic off the park ?

The only accurate account of the shame-game, from Celtic FC, came the next day, from a player who the hun players were ordered to, and tried to, and failed to kick off the park was, Kris Commons, when he was asked on, BBC Reporting Scotland – BBC “Kris, what happened last night ?”…..KC “Rangers came to do a job on us last night, and they failed!”

The OBAFA, was conceived in the Celtic PLC boardroom, by PL, PMQC, and Campbell Corrigan, because, Celtic PLC, collapsed and sold out the Celtic support, imho.

I also don’t think that JF, or PQ, or folk of that ilk, would have flung NFL under a bus, for daring to prove, that his Celtic team were being cheated by the MIBs.

HT, the progress achieved today, will be undone, if, Celtic supporters continue to sing rebel songs.

    Its as simple as that.

The armed struggle is now not an active issue.

The Jungle backed the armed struggle, whilst is was a live issue.

If the Jungle was here today, they’d be backing the peace process, and would have rallied the club to have, permanent white poppies of peace on the hoops.

The guid, grand oul folk fae Ireland are enjoying a peace process, that they have been praying for, for 800 years, don’t spoil that.

The island of Ireland is / was, historically known, as an island of peace, a magical place.

That changed recently when, Brittania’s huns wi thur long range guns invaded, and were resisted by an republican armed struggle.

Celtic supporters should out fox their would be establishment enemies, by portraying Celtic FC, as a club who reflect peace, but as a club who will challenge injustice, head on.

Pass a message onto your fellow attending Celtic supporters to, pull a Stein type trick on the Celtic hating establishment and, from now, this point, right here, right now, overnight, tonight, as if by magic, no more songs with the – three letters – in them, I won’t type the letters, or this post will be deleted. Thank you, well done.

P.S. I don’t / can’t go to the games anymore, or I’d be trying to spread the message myself, and they would get the message, because, I repeat, and, repeat, and, repeat, and, repeat, and, repeat myself, till they do get it.

Ye knew that, right ? :)

    Hail Hail Amigo.

I think it’s more likely that Moussa will go, wouldn’t be surprised if Moyes makes him an offer to join West Ham. They need a centre forward with Carroll having Jozo-esque levels of fitness, Ayew off to join his brother at Swansea and Chicarito possibly away as well.

Also think the aforementioned Jozo will also go and possibly Armstrong as well (with Hendry and McGinn replacing them in the squad).

Musonda will be the big signing and possibly another striker.

Flanagan would have been ideal, a right back equally as good playing at left back but his recent conviction probably put an end to that.

  6. Great news on the OBFAC. A significant day.

As for Paul. Jesus wept. His parodies get worse and worse. You are being softened up for the late sale of dembele. No other players coming in and the promise of jam tomorrow (again).

Paul is being duplicitous. He has the board agenda and is selling you stories.

    It’s beyond unacceptable.

    It’s appalling.

And it seems he is emboldened, as is the board.

    Are you buying it?

It’s all over the football media in Europe that Celtic are hawking dembele.

They won’t buy Odense but they might pretend they will.

Jam tomorrow jam tomorrow jam tomorrow.

When the transfer window slams shut the Huns, for all their cheating and corruption, will have cheated their way to strengthening their team.

Celtic will have weakened, for no reason other than the love of money and Brendan will be on the slide because he has shown no courage in front of lawwell and Desmond.

Do you keep propping this up?

I cant see Musonda happening, i know we have tried to sign him previously but he just signed a new deal and must be on £80k a week plus. The likes of Bournemouth will be willing to pay his full wage and i just cant see him wanting to come up here. Have you considered the possibility that Moussa has told his agent, “I can’t stretch my left hamstring now in a real game”?

In such a circumstance, it’ll be the agent pushing for a move based on last season’s chimera. Not Celtic. We can keep him for two years.

P.S. I’ve tried to cut out the spacing on Paul67’s blog.

    HH

    Dear Mr KevJungle,

Thank you for your email. Please find enclosed Mr Lyle’s reply which he has asked me to send you:

Thank you for your correspondence in relation to the Bill by James Kelly MSP regarding the repeal of the Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications (Scotland) Act 2012

The Justice Committee has just finished taking evidence on the Repeal Bill and will publish their report in the next few weeks. Whilst I do not follow football I do believe that Scotland should be free of offensive behaviour and by extension – football should too; in order that it can be enjoyed by supporters and indeed families alike. I recognise that the majority of football fans attending matches in Scotland are well behaved and simply wish to support their team but unfortunately offensive singing and chanting continues to be a problem in relation to Scottish football. I recognise that legislation on its own will never resolve any social issues but it does have an important role to play. I do not support repealing the Act without a viable alternative being in place and I believe that Mr Kelly has failed to provide such an alternative. Repealing the Bill would send the wrong message to the public about what constitutes acceptable behaviour, a view supported by several organisations who gave evidence to the Justice Committee:

    · Stonewall Scotland said they “would be concerned that an outright repeal of the Act may send a worrying message that prejudiced based and threatening behaviour at football is acceptable.”

    · Victim Support Scotland said it “is opposed to the repeal of the 2012 Act unless there is a viable alternative to support victims of threatening communication and religious prejudice.”

    · The Scottish Council for Jewish Communities said they “are concerned that repeal of the Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications Act would send exactly the wrong message.”

The Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications (Scotland) Act 2012 is not restricted to football or sectarianism. The Act has two distinct elements – Offensive Behaviour at Football (Section 1), not restricted to sectarianism, and Threatening Communications (Section 6), not restricted to football or sectarianism. The Act is designed to give better and sharper tools to the police and prosecutors to allow a more effective response to an issue which, sadly, many appear resigned to accept as the status quo. It allows prosecutors to easily identify those individuals who use football as an excuse for abusive and offensive behaviour they may not indulge in elsewhere.

Repealing the Act would leave a gap in the law meaning those who are victims of offensive behaviour would no longer be able to seek justice and those who commit offensive acts would not be held accountable for their behaviour. Section 1 of the Act strengthens the law by focussing on whether behaviour would be likely to incite public disorder, removing the requirement to prove it would cause fear and alarm to a reasonable person. Section 1 also has extra-territorial application, which makes it possible for a prosecution to be brought in relation to behaviour which takes place at matches played by Scottish teams abroad. Section 6 of the Act criminalises threats made with the intent of inciting religious hatred, something which was not previously covered in Scots law. Our concern regarding the impact on the law has been echoed by the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service who told the Justice Committee “…there would be a gap in the law” if the Act was repealed.

There is also significant support for the legislation as shown by a YouGov poll on the Offensive Behaviour at Football Act conducted in 2015. The survey found:

    · 83% support legislation to tackle offensive behaviour at football.

    · 80% directly support the Act.

    · 82% believe that offensive behaviour at football matches is harmful.

    · 73% of the respondents who said they were “very interested” in football, directly support the Act.

I would also stress that the legislation is just one of the actions being taken by the Scottish Government to tackle sectarianism and hate crime in Scotland. Since 2012 the Scottish Government has invested just under £13 million to tackle sectarianism, including funding for educational initiatives and academic research. In 2017 the Scottish Government commissioned an independent review of all hate crime legislation, including the Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications Act, which is being led by Lord Bracadale. Several witnesses have told the Justice Committee that repeal of the Act should be delayed until Lord Bracadale has completed his independent hate crime review (Church of Scotland, Scottish Women’s Convention, Stonewall Scotland, Equality & Human Rights Commission, Scottish Council of Jewish Communities). I believe this would be a sensible approach to take as it could allow amendments to be made to the legislation to make it more effective.

I understand your concerns regarding the Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications (Scotland) Act 2012, but I believe repealing it without a practicable alternative would set back our ambitions to eradicate hate crime across Scotland.

That sounds strange to me as Celtic fans, including myself, have a long record of being ill-disposed towards the new soulless Hampden. I was unaware that I was part of a campaign to benefit the hun. I thought I was just saying Hampden was crap.

  20. HT I am incr dilly proud of Celtic supporters and always have been. I sent the letter to my MSP and have been engaged in what I can only describe as gentle warfare with the SNP Paisley nazi party.

Can I just thank you and the trust for what you have done here.

Guy fawkes I am sorry but really? This dembele stuff is bolloks. Club officials say he has had his head turned and today Brendan tells us he hasn’t asked to leave. You know what, dembele has threatened to go to the press to say Celtic are lying. Brendan has been wheeled out to deny it all today. It’s a shambles. An absolute shambles, Brendan is now all over the place and for what? Money?

SFTB did you see the Roma story about dembele? Says it all.

As for hampden. I have always hated hampden. But what 15 years ago Scotland’s sfa decided to spend the same amount of money that Wales got to build a new stadium and they spent it on one stand. On a ground they didn’t own. It’s just part of the absolute in pitied and corruption of the sfa.

Now the sfa say they want to leave. The media and Scotland should be all over this multi million pound waste of public money. But no. They back it.

The Huns need money. Desperately. This is a lifeline.

Celtic don’t need the money but they ejaculate over it.

So Celtic and rangers (old firm) say give us the games.

At the end one of the presenters said “who won anyway”, to which the other one replied “the Catholics 1-0” and the whole studio cheered lol.

“SFTB did you see the Roma story about dembele? Says it all. ”

I did see several versions of the story each of them building on the first report. In some Celtic are touting the player and in others Roma are preparing a bid for their target. Your “says it all” suggests that you believe the former- so I asked Why and on what basis? Is there real evidence or dos this version merely confirm your pre-exisiting view that Celtic are only in it for the money. It’s a wonder we ever sign anyone as there’s no money in it, is there?

On the Hampden story, you are conflating two different trends. One is the general supporters view that Hampden is a poor stadium and we would like a better one. The second is that Celtic and Rangers and Scottish Rugby have the most likely alternative placements. I am no fan of Scottish Rugby either and would not want their private school and lottery-fund filtered coffers enhanced by being chosen as the replacement.

But I cannot alter my view that Hampden is soulless and needs replaced because Rangers or Scottish Rugby might be beneficiaries.

  25. SFTB I believe what from what I hear and Chris Davies and Brendan are either not talking (unlikely) or, frankly bullshitting.

On hampden. It’s a dump. But it’s a national scandal that it is and even worse than the sfa, public ally funded have led us here.

The absolute key reason the sfa want to move is to give the Huns money.

    Does it make you happy?

  26. neg

I can’t debate with “what I hear is…” because I am not privy to what you hear and why you chose to believe one story and not another.

I am neither unhappy or happy about the SFA querying Hampden because I haven’t heard their proposals. If they vote to play every game at Ibrox and pay Sevco £1m for every match, I would not be happy.

If they voted to play every game at CP and pay us likewise, I would. (I would also be surprised).

But I will reserve my ire in each case until reality becomes a bit clearer.

  27. Art of war. I would be upset at your name calling. But then again you have never offered a coherent argument on anything in maybe a decade.
