QUIET MAN MOOY WANTS TO BE BIG NOISE

NEW Bhoy Aaron Mooy doesn’t like talking about himself – but aims to be a roaring success at Celtic.

The Australia international midfielder, 31, signed a two-year deal with the champions after being released from his contract by Chinese Superleague outfit Shanghai Port at the turn of the year.

Former club Huddersfield Town were among the teams who were in the chase for the playmaker, but Mooy opted to join up with his one-time international manager Ange Postecoglou at Parkhead.

Mooy is now looking to make up for lost time and said: “It’s an amazing feeling and I’m just so happy to be here. It’s a massive club with a huge history and I want to be part of it.

“I’m looking forward to the challenges ahead.

“It’s always a bit stressful when you’re talking with a club, especially a massive club like Celtic, so I’m delighted that it’s all done and I can get to work and hit the training ground.

“Ange was my coach for about three years in the national team, so I know the standards he wants and I’m looking forward to working with him again.

“I’ve had a few weeks without the ball, so I’m looking forward to touching the ball again, getting my fitness up and meeting my new team-mates and the staff.”

Mooy, who also played for Brighton and had two years at St Mirren between 2010-12, is a great believer in action speaking louder than words.

The 53 times-capped versatile performer, speaking to Celtic TV, continued: “I’m going to do everything I can do well and be successful and try and help in any way I can. I’m a midfielder, so I like to be on the ball.

“I don’t really like to talk about myself, but, hopefully, I can help the team.

“I played for St Mirren when I was a youngster and I’ve always been back and forth to Glasgow because of family, so it’s an amazing opportunity and one that I couldn’t turn down.”

Ironically, Mooy will miss the opprtunity of teaming up with his Socceroos colleague Tom Rogic who, of course, left the Hoops in the summer after almost a decade in Glasgow.

He added: “I’ve known Tom a long time and we’ve spoken lots of times about Celtic. I was always interested to know what it was like for him in Scotland and he’s obviously had an amazing period here with lots of success.

“I’m delighted to be here now and I just can’t wait to get started and join in with the group.”
