Quirk of scheduling benefit

171

It is a quirk of fixture scheduling that the farthest Celtic travel before December is Edinburgh.  Exerting travel, like last week’s journey to Bergamo, will not interrupt our preparations as we compete on three fronts in the week ahead.

The rest of Scottish football’s attention will be elsewhere when we take on Dundee at Celtic Park tomorrow, but focus will return to Glasgow for Saturday’s League Cup semifinal against Aberdeen, and for our Champions League game at home to Leipzig, one week from today.

The win at Motherwell was doubly welcome as it was an away game after an away European tie, statistically when teams are most likely to drop points.  The other interesting dynamic is that our next two matches are against teams who are not practiced at playing two games a week.

While Celtic coasted to a win at Motherwell, Dundee had a battle against St Johnstone before losing to a 90th minute goal.  Celtic Park tomorrow is Dundee’s first midweek game since July.  The same is true of Aberdeen.  They also went to the last kick of the ball against Dundee United at the weekend, will doubtlessly have an engaging tussle tomorrow, before pitching up to face the Champions on Saturday.

We have the bigger squad and playing two games a week is our norm.  Let’s make the most of the scheduling quirk and arrive for our next Champions League tie in top condition.

  1. DENIABHOY @ 1:31 PM,

Having watched Celtic youth, Celtic B, Scotland U19s and Scotland 21s it’s interesting the talent around.

Celtic are not producing a lot of it, many of the best Scotland U21’s are playing in England or abroad.

That’s not to say we don’t have talent, a Turley goal put us one up against Atalanta U19s, they scored the winner in injury time.

Yet, we need to keep the Ben Doaks and recruit the Lennon Millers if we want to maintain a competitive UCL side.

Barca romped the El Classico with two teenagers in their side.

    Hail Hail

  2. Saint Stivs on 29th October 2024 1:46 pm

    hunskelper, invincible, legendary goals.

    that tom rogic ?

Saint Stivs, I got the impression that the original remark came from a Hun troll. If not then a rather ‘less-than-prescient’ Celtic fan who should be encouraged to try to understand football and footballers.

Yip, too many projects led to a change.

I reckon there were other options given Luke McCowan’s 9.00 phone call, I still think Celtic are the only show in town for buying outstanding Scottish talent. I’m sure BR rated Liam Kelly highly, as he did Rocco Vata but the players knowing there’s no guarantee of first team football move on, and so have Celtic.

Right now it’s hard enough for Bernardo a Benfica ‘project’ to get a starting berth, McCowan is a different type of signing and looked like a Celtic player overnight, before he’d made his full debut.

David Turnbull had made a name at Motherwell by the time we signed him, he’s a regular for the bench at Cardiff, and didn’t kick on at Celtic.

  7. Turkeybhoy – I trust you do realize that watching CNN for your election news is a bit like keeping up with

Scottish football by watching Rangers TV. Not that there are many other options because 90% of the media follow suit, but you may want to balance things up a bit by watching or listening to Fox News. Don’t get me wrong, they are just as bad in the other direction, but somewhere in the middle you might get a better read on what the American population are going to vote for.

  9. BSR,

As a matter of fact,I did notice him after he hit the woodwork twice.Maybe because I have a wee tendency to watch the game, not just Celtic. He had some lovely turns, lay offs,a couple of superb passes, one featured on BBC.A 40 yard outside of the foot, ball up the wing, the winger fired a dangerous ball across our box.

    The boy reeks class.

Best 18 year old I have seen in Scotland for a long time.

  10. Great to see big Tom treble goal.

Amazing our support booed Neil Lennon at the blackburn rovers game.

Normally when somebody reeks of something it’s not usually class, but I’ll take your

    word for it 👍

  12. Bobby Madden has rejected the notion Connor Barron should have seen red at Ibrox against St Mirren – as he chucked out any comparisons to the incident involving Celtic attacker Yang at Tynecastle last season.

This is the guy how has been touting himself about to be Head of VAR……

  13. BOURNESOUPRECIPE @ 2:16 PM,

Apologies for the link to LMcC…

Also Apologies to Daniel Kelly who has become Liam for some reason.

Will be interesting to see how our Benfica Campus and La Masia bhoys develop.

Think Dane Murray will make it at Celtic, he’s played more times than the other three combined.

  15. lets all do the huddle on

how does that tit madden still get air time in the scottish media?

he is nothing but a corrupt hun cheat.

which is why he gets air time in the scottish media 😄

  16. Prestonpans bhoys on

All Madden is doing is attention seeking and trying to be relevant, bit like the team he supports……

  17. the long wait is over on

Lennon Miller definitely looks like a talent ( his shot off the post reminded me of the Maestro’s goal in THAT game at St Mirren in 1986) and worth signing , if the price is right.

My only caveat, price apart, is that I am not sure (I haven’t seen enough of him and it might just be too early in any event) if he’s any better than Turnbull was, and he just never developed into the player I hoped he would.

  18. Thank f@ck im a Celtic supporter.

They really refresh the parts that life, doctors and ” leaders” can’t reach.. One more day.

    Hail Hail.

PS : I think running late is my nrew default exercise.

  19. A guy in the pub branded Brendan hypocritical for praising Celtic`s defensive performance against Atalanta when according to him, Brendan has been critical in the past of teams defending in numbers against us in the SPFL.

I said I didn`t recall that criticism ever happening. Can any of you point me in the direction of where and when he did this?

  20. Prestonpans bhoys on

    From the DR:

Rangers reveal loss of £17m in latest accounts as Ibrox club’s staff costs remain at eye-watering levels

  21. Rangers have announced an operating loss of £17.2million in the past financial year.

The Ibrox club released the annual report and accompanying financial statement for the year ended 30 June 2023 which is in stark contrast to last year’s. Twelve months ago the club posted a slim operating profit of £252,000 but it’s a sorrier sight now with cash being haemorrhaged

  22. I have to go now but I`ll look in later to see if anyone has responded to my 4:39 pm query.

    Cheerio for now.

  23. Prestonpans bhoys on

I’m not an accountant but this £17.2 m looks like a pretax lost, did they not do that trick last year ?

  24. HS- I’ve never heard Brendan complain about teams parking the bus, always says it’s up to us to break them down
