When Roy Race’s scriptwriters sat down to decide on their weekly football fantasies they would never bring themselves to write what Jack Aitchison went through yesterday.
A scoring debut.
With his first touch.
As the youngest player ever to play for the club.
This is classic (Roy) Race-ism. To get to the stage of making your Celtic debut as a 16-year-old striker Jack would have to have eclipsed many older players in the youth structure, so he clearly has something about him, but consider anything he achieves in the next five years as a bonus.
With Kieran Tierney (18) and Ryan Christie (21) also scoring their first goals for the club yesterday, there was an air of optimism that some of the development work we’ve invested in recently is bearing fruit. The most important lesson from yesterday in this respect was Tom Rogic (23).
Tom has been at Celtic for over 3 years, which indicated the time it takes to develop a player. He came through long-term injury during that period but he could easily have dropped off the scene a year ago without much fuss. He now looks every inch the modern creative midfield player. What he did to create the chance for Ryan Christie’s goal yesterday was sublime. If you didn’t see it, go look for it.
It takes time and patience to develop players, but the evidence is mounting that we’re good at it again.
Really pleased the sun shone on Ronny’s last day, in every sense of the word. It was a high to go out on after a lot of rainy days, in every sense of the word. I planned to appraise him, and our strategy, after the Scottish Cup semi-final defeat but decided to leave it to the end of the season after his quick announcement that he was leaving. Will pick up with this in due course.
As I walked away from Celtic Park yesterday and pondered the success or otherwise of Ronny Deila’s reign, the thought occurred to me, maybe it’s too early to tell?
Remarkably, over the weekend, more than 500 of you have contributed to a crowdsource project to publicise issues relating to Resolution 12 in The Guardian newspaper, and a business paper serving Uefa’s territory in Switzerland (all without a mention in the main blog).
We are not served particularly well in Scotland with oversight, accountability and governance. It’s important for our society, not just our game, that those who can articulate this situation do so. Read this article for more information, with a link at the bottom to participate.

Roberts has done more in a dozen matches than Forrest and McGeady ever did. I think.
Two positive weeks in a row …. all but clinching the title, and then a very entertaining performance yesterday….
okay .. enough of ‘Happyclapper Mike in Toronto’ … NOW the hard work starts …. getting the squad ready for the qualifiers…. we need to get moving on this … aaahh… that feels better.
and, I hope to Ghod, that Hibs end their barren run next week!!!!!! I”ll even sing Sunshine over Leith, if they do (on that note…. had birthday cake with the Reid brothers years ago after a show…. it was their bday, and someone brought a cake! they seemed nice)

Here we go.Cant even take a fantastic result and performance without ,within a day, turning on playersTHEY dont fancy.Broony,Biton,rubbished.I will say again,I will take the word of every manager that Broony has ever worked under, before I will listen to numbnuts on here. All rate him,all have made him their captain, club, and international. Not bad for someone who cant do anything connected to football.
Biton,absolute class act.Barca have Busquets,ManU have had Carrick,for yonks playing Bitons role.Two real duff teams.Quite a few on here are a F–*-n joke.Clueless.

Completely agree, but we’ve only got him for one more season. We will have to think beyond that.
Looks like Joey Barton deal with Burnley was for around 1M a year or roughly 30K a week.
Yip. I can see that happening. Not even at 20K or 15k
Think I’m safe from PLs clutches for now.

Roberts is a unique talent, I dont think we will be able to replace him. He will run riot next year I think.

A week prayer offered for the repose of the soul of your aunt and condolences to you.
May her soul and the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace. HH

Sorry to hear about your Aunt Agnes.
May she rest in peace.
Even at his young age you can see Patrick Roberts is a pro, he has game intelligence and guts in spades, he’s in a different league altogether from James Forrest. Perhaps the new manager can get more out of James but I think the main problem James has is himself!
Turkeybhoy
Personally I like Biton on his day. But c’mon, you are right Turkey for even mentioning him, Busquets & Carrick in the same sentence never mind us and Barca. I’ll give you ManU for now though. They are a bomb scare :-]
New Manager-Ray Donovan
Assistant Manager-Arthur Shelby
Simples…
Starry
Agreed. Watching Roberts yesterday you could see he was a move ahead of even the brilliant team performance we put in yesterday. The number of times he had to speak to team mates to let them know his game and that they were slow in the pass to him or missed a great pass to him in space. Very old footballing head on very young shoulders. I won’t be surprised to see him at one of the top clubs in Europe in next 5 years. Although Peter might sign him on a 5 year deal – cough!
turkeyboy
Your Bitton comparisons are hilarious.
Busquets and Carrick?
You mean they share all of his qualities?
Can’t tackle?
Struggle to make a forward pass.
Have zero positional sense.
Are constantly wrong side of opponent.
Give away free kicks in dangerous areas.
Bad a Bing
That would be a blinder.
TT
Bada,
Have you taken liev of your senses??

Forward wheat and chaff :
Bin : Cole (think he’s gone anyway), Cifci and Stokes
Keep : Griff, Kazim & the prolific Jack A.
Dunno : Scepovic (can he reinvent himself within a team who spot his runs) but probably bin.
Buy : A very decent striker or 2
Starry Plough I concur completely, chalk and cheese night and day, black and white….. enough!!! great day and atmosphere yesterday. H H Hebcelt

Embdae heard fae TBJ?
GM-well worth a watch,Jon Voigt steals the show
Bada
It’d be your hammy for breakfast, lunch and tea before you were slung in the cut :-]
Still laughing at Mark Wilson on Sportscene – ‘Having to play Christie at centre forward shows Celtic are really struggling in that area.’
If we carry on playing like we did yesterday, scoring seven goals, I’ll pay to watch that struggle.
Not much mention of Stuart Armstrong so allow me, I thought the boy played very, very well yesterday and what a finish for his goal. He can be a big player for us, next year and long term.
Re Aiden Roberts and Patrick McGeady
Roberts is here for next season and these last few months have shown glimpses of his potential.
However he is not in it for the long haul.
We need to be either grooming or buying his replacement.
McGeady is in the same mould and would be a good signing as I no longer believe GMS will develop into the kind of player we hoped he would be.
So yes. Bring Aiden home and use his undoubted talents to unlock the park the bus defence we will face next season.
Bada,
Been taken out by Mossad I hear. ;)
HH
…….. Agnes Griffin
Fieldofdrams,
I though Stuart put in a cracking shift yesterday. He’s really making that * stuck oot wide left* position his own ;)
I thought his goal was outrageous. Some strike.

Young Paddy after some glittering performances in the oops in Europe will fall in love with Celtic and decide to stay with us and propel us back up the Euro rankings:)))

May your Aunt Agnes rest in Eternal Light.
I had an Auntie Agnes too that passed just over a year ago- 94 she was. She had an exercise of reciting the birthdays of the Lisbon Lions squad to strengthen her memory. The stories of the poverty endured in her youth was staggering.
Her summation of current day Celtic supporters: “spoiled brats”. :-)
If I was Dermot Desmond I’d be sending Peter on a wee trip to Madrid to spend some of his bonus. He’d be instructed to pass the Bernabeu and seek out the Campo de Fútbol de Vallecas stadium. Pour a wee sangria or two with Paco Jemez and come out bull fighting our way into the Champions league next season with an attacking 4-3-3 3-4-3 he loves to play.
Go spend your bonus Peter.
None of this Moyes and Rogers crap.
