Rallying call to supporters from the manager

1060

Neil Lennon’s interview with the official site was the second resounding State of the Club address from Celtic within a week.  The manager said:

”Clearly, in terms of where Rangers do play, that is now a matter for others to decide upon, it is something we have no control or influence over.

“We must now move on, and move on with a collective unity between the supporters and the club and the team.

“We need to stand strong, shoulder to shoulder and all work together to continue to move the club in the right direction.

“We want as many fans as possible to come back to the club and take their seat at Celtic Park and invest in the club as much as possible.

“We are now looking forward and not back, we have a vibrant young team, I want to progress this team as far as I can but we cannot do this without the fans’ support.

“There will be no slacking off or complacency, we have a lot to look forward to and that´s what we are preparing for, but I need to be very clear, we need our fans with us every step of the way.

“We cannot let outside negative influences dictate the mood at Celtic, we are very optimistic and we are very much looking forward to the season but we need our fans right with us”.

“It´s imperative we make inroads in Europe again this year and it would be nice to get through the qualifiers and into the Champions League group stages, but I´m under no illusion how difficult that´s going to be

“Everyone wants to play at the big table and that´s our whole focus. We go into this as champions and that is a fantastic feeling, so hopefully that will give the players an extra spring in their step.

“If we qualify then you never know where it will take us.”

I hear season ticket sales are up on the corresponding period last season but the message from Neil is clear, with the driver for high-value corporate ticket sales missing, Celtic are more dependent on ordinary supporters buying tickets than ever before.

This is your tax-and-supplier-paying-champions-today-and-next-season-Celtic.  You wouldn’t rather it any other way so get along and enjoy it.

  1. Awe Naw, I read your comments with interest and understand fully what you’re saying. I also noted your use of the word “offically” with regards to an rfc/sevco protection racket. Unofficial for years but more official by the day in some cases. You are right, it is a situation that needs to be watched carefully.

My view has been from the outset that if our Club does what I believe to be right with regards to this whole affair then I am best watching carefully from close to the action. Time will tell if I’m right but not supporting Celtic now by not renewing my season ticket doesn’t sit easy with me.

  2. Irrespective of wherever sevco fc play next year or the years after that, they

are forever tainted, the stain of being known cheats liars and rogues will stick with them in whatever guise they take,

The majority of Scottish Football Clubs and their respective Supporters are (for possibly the first time ever) united in the knowledge that the administrators of this great game were, and still are willing to prostitute themselves for the club that was rangers,

The SFA through their own incompetence have in their own inimitable way proven once and for all there is no level playing field, rules are for those and such as those, as the Chairman of one of the Countries lower Division Clubs publicly stated, the game is corrupt, on behalf of Celtic Supporters everywhere I commend this mans openess and indeed his bravery for making such a statement, and also for the small matter of confirming what we as a Support have been saying for manys a year.

    Paranoid no more.

  3. Agree we need some new signings for the CL and if we dont qualify the EL. Must be some decent bosmans going. I doubt we will be shelling out millions on transfer fees given the circumstances domestically.

  4. Neil’s statement:

“We must now move on, and move on with a collective unity between the supporters and the club and the team.

“We need to stand strong, shoulder to shoulder and all work together to continue to move the club in the right direction.”

Collective …..shoulder to shoulder ….. work together.

I bought my season ticket and paid in full.

I did so putting my faith in my club.

I have yet to be convinced that my faith has not been misplaced.

My seat may remain unoccupied if my club does not stand shoulder to shoulder with me.

Issuing a rallying call to the troops is not a substitute for leadership, it is just another way of exploiting the poor, bloody infantry.

Time to speak up for the fans and the game itself.

Raith Rovers has shown that forthright opposition to the cheating and corruption is actually popular!

If it transpires that Celtic along with some other clubs (lets say for the sake of argument Petrie and Lawwell along with Regan , Doncaster and Ogilvie) devised the proletariat plan and that information eventually comes out then it is very bad indeed.

Are we Old Firm yes or no ?

If we can only live for one year without them having faced what we did in 1994 and we helped devise this SFL1 safety net then I am pretty convinced that Celtic is part of the problem.

If only Charles Green had some money … he would not have been given the time.

    Awe_Naw..,

vry clear, but I think its still a good idea to keeptrack on the number of rules that are and have been broken, for posterity like a wee reminder of how far a “leading light” in the football world governance, is willing to postitute itself and its partners through its influence in defence of corruption. Each and every scot involved with the games governance is now compromised. International governance by its inaction has allowed corruption to continue, and therefore in my book has encouraged it.

I was lambasted a few days ago when I enquired whether the board had washed their hands of the whole question of what should happen to the huns.

Looks like my concerns may have been justified.

    No matter.

So long as enough season books are sold. That’s what’s important.

Celtic have publicly stated that they have a financial viability plan independent of other clubs.

NL is doing his part for that plan.

The players must play their part.

We have to do our part.

This is a recorded message identical to the one Peter Lawell issued on the day we voted them out of the SPL.

The dirty deed will be done, and Celtic have settled for a year without them.

Our best bet is Sevco’s continuing combustible implosion.

Any plan is far more dependent on the footballing authorities and how they behave than any group of clubs.

  15. If what you suggest were to transpire then I, and I’d guess many like me, would not go back to a Scottish Football game.

It may transpire, just as many initially thought the SPL clubs would allow Sevco to play in the SPL. Our Club, like the majority of others and as a result of knowing how their fans felt, did the right thing. On their head be it should it transpire in the months and years to come that they did the right thing whilst already having the SFL1 safety net in place all along.

So far my faith in our Club has not been mis-placed. Until it is proven otherwise our Club will have my unequivocal support.

I had a ST for years in section 11, it excluded the games against them. What are these guys being offered now ? I assume its not being barred from attending the games against club12, whoever that may be. Or have they been asked for another £70 to see the game on their ST??

  21. “So long as enough season books are sold. That’s what’s important”

Nobody is forcing anybody to buy a ST. If some people think that Celtic is part of some conspiracy to protect the huns (without a shred of evidence) and if that means they cease to support the team then so be it.That is a matter for them.

NL is absolutley correct when he says we have no influence over which if any league the huns play in as this is now a matter for the SFL clubs.

I agree with all of that.

BUT Celtic will not get a penny FROM MANY until this issue is resolved to THEIR satisfaction.

I think they are right … having given thousands of pounds to Celtic under false pretences since 1998 ???

If Celtic brush this one under the carpet then it is money before honesty, integrity.

Why would Celtic even want to brush this under the carpet ?

You clearly haven’t been following developments.

There have been all sorts of inducements offered to the SFL to encourage them to allow the huns into the first division.

Anyone who claims Celtic have no influence over these events is either a fool or a liar.

Part of the proposal to SFL expects some quid pro quo from SPL.

Therefore, we do have an influence and, indeed, may have already exerted that influence by allowing the proposal to be made by Doncaster on behalf of SPL clubs.
