Rallying call to supporters from the manager

1060

Neil Lennon’s interview with the official site was the second resounding State of the Club address from Celtic within a week.  The manager said:

”Clearly, in terms of where Rangers do play, that is now a matter for others to decide upon, it is something we have no control or influence over.

“We must now move on, and move on with a collective unity between the supporters and the club and the team.

“We need to stand strong, shoulder to shoulder and all work together to continue to move the club in the right direction.

“We want as many fans as possible to come back to the club and take their seat at Celtic Park and invest in the club as much as possible.

“We are now looking forward and not back, we have a vibrant young team, I want to progress this team as far as I can but we cannot do this without the fans’ support.

“There will be no slacking off or complacency, we have a lot to look forward to and that´s what we are preparing for, but I need to be very clear, we need our fans with us every step of the way.

“We cannot let outside negative influences dictate the mood at Celtic, we are very optimistic and we are very much looking forward to the season but we need our fans right with us”.

“It´s imperative we make inroads in Europe again this year and it would be nice to get through the qualifiers and into the Champions League group stages, but I´m under no illusion how difficult that´s going to be

“Everyone wants to play at the big table and that´s our whole focus. We go into this as champions and that is a fantastic feeling, so hopefully that will give the players an extra spring in their step.

“If we qualify then you never know where it will take us.”

I hear season ticket sales are up on the corresponding period last season but the message from Neil is clear, with the driver for high-value corporate ticket sales missing, Celtic are more dependent on ordinary supporters buying tickets than ever before.

This is your tax-and-supplier-paying-champions-today-and-next-season-Celtic.  You wouldn’t rather it any other way so get along and enjoy it.

  1. Too much being said with too little foundation.

Can`t we wait until the ” issue” has been resolved? I bought my ST on Direct Debit scheme so that, if the Hun are allowed in, I can cancel it. Until then, I remain a Celtic supporter.

Trying this on BB for the first time for posting but felt compelled cos I’ve just shut down my laptop.

Varying views on Neil’s latest statememt on here today. Let me suggest, whilst acknowledging we are a broad, universal church, that no-one, no-one in our family, has a more valid opinion than Neil. These are indeed unprecedented times, uncharted times. Were the charted times so favourable to us? Please, let’s just think about our future. No-one else matters. No-one. Buy season tickets. Buy everything Celtic. New home top out tonight. Buy only from Celtic. Buy pre-season tickets. They are desperate for us to fail.

This is our time. We will prevail. Nothing else matters. We control our own destiny.

They may come back sometime in 10 yrs time… But they come back a shamed laughing stock of a club.

  6. ST deadlines have been extended and from my own experience incentives are being offered eg Renew before 20 July and be entered into draw to travel with first team to away game in champions league qualifier

    From the official Sevco5088 site:

“ON July 10 in 1989 and 1995 Rangers made two of the most audacious signings in the history of Scottish football when Mo Johnston and Paul Gascoigne joined the club.

Graeme Souness, of course, was never far away from controversy and he made the boldest move possible in the summer of ’89 when he usurped Celtic and made the first major Catholic signing in nearly 50 years when Johnston put pen to paper at Ibrox.”

“major Catholic” – what’s that at all? First one in nearly 50 years to be good enough!

  11. Rangers as we know it will die from liquidation, and with it the cessation of their history. Any new Rangers will be a new club with no history. As long as the SFA and SPL accept this I am happy for them to start in SFL 3, after the existing minimum requisite waiting period

Just off the phone to a relation in Kirknewton, just outside of Livingston. His neighbour is ex Hibs player Mickey Weir. My cousin is friendly with him and has attended games at Easter road with him.

Anyway according to my cousin Weir does some part time coaching at Spartans FC and he says Spartans have taken legal advice re SFA granting New Club licence to play football in any league year. He also says if SFL does not invite applications for place in league if Dundee/Dunfermline enter SPL then they will challenge in court. My cousin isn’t one to spread gossip and if he says M Weir said this then i have no reason not to believe him.

  15. Evening bhoys, seriously hot, even for this time of year, but not to worry, it’s hun free….

The huns will be looked after, that is a given, the game in scotland is as bent as a nine bob note, that also is a given….

What gets me is that our club seem to be happy to go along with the charade that the game is sound, it’s anything but, the sfa run the game for the benefit of the huns, have done for all my Celtic supporting life.

The club are in the position to effect major change within the game, they are doing nothing to the betterment of the game.

The referees are a joke, we have had a run in or two with the sfa over them, and yet we still do nothing to force change.

That is what I want the club to do.

I want the huns to die and go to hell, ain’t gonna happen, but I can but dream.

  16. Two opposing views. Only time will tell which is correct.

One side can then stick out their tongue and say “I told you so”.

The other will be hat munching.

For the record I’m happy with how those in charge at Celtic are handling the situation and firmly believe there will be no derivative of rangers playing professional football next season.

If I’m wrong I’ll still be a Celtic supporter albeit with one hat less.

  24. gallagher – Two irrefutable truths –

    1. Football will be played at ibrox. It has no other greater commercial value in the current climate and BDO, if the asset reverts to them, will discover all the bidders will be football related.

    2. Whoever plays at ibrox will be viewed as ‘rangers’. Regardless of how long it takes to settle the issue, the team playing out of ibrox will have the greatest claim to the rangers ‘brand’, for better or for worse.

  26. The issue of hun protectionism is not the only concern the Celtic Board and supporters should have.

The contempt which they (the Scottish footballing “authorities”) have demonstrated towards Celtic is also a serious issue of its own, that needs dealt with promptly, and has done for years. There seems to have been attempts to do so, but how successful these have been is unclear. There was still an abundance of Mibbery in evidence last season, and imo there will be again this season.

This point only strengthens the two opposing camps’ views here today, I think: either contribute financially to keep the Club strong during the foreseeable attempts to keep us weak by the SFA et al; or withhold your support in protest.

We need out of this league and administration; its been the case for years.
