Rangers 3-2 Celtic

1137

Celtic will have to keep the Champagne on ice for a while longer after failing to collect the three points required to win the league at Ibrox this afternoon.  The champions-elect looked nervous early on with few looking comfortable in possession, allowing Rangers significant periods of possession.  After only 10 minutes Rangers were ahead when Sone Aluko beat Thomas Rogne before cutting inside Charlie Mulgrew and firing a shot past Forster in the Celtic goal.

Celtic scarcely featured as an attacking threat in the first half but moments after going behind Georgios Samaras produced one of the most scintillating pieces of skill on the day.  The Greek international collected the ball 70 yards from goal, beat four opponents before his shot from 12 yards was saved by Alan McGregor.  Anthony Stokes mishit the rebound allowing McGregor to tip over.

Stokes forced a further save from McGregor with a fine volley after controlling on his chest but the game was soon to look ominous for Celtic.  Cha Du-Ri was caught wrong side of Lee Wallace and made the slighted touch on the Rangers player who went to ground two yards outside the penalty area.  Referee Calum Murray sent Cha off despite the covering attendance of Charlie Mulgrew.

Despite their numerical advantage Rangers seemed content to prevent Celtic scoring, Fraster Forster didn’t make a single save while Celtic were numerically on level terms or only a single man down.  Ten minutes after the break Victor Wanyama was red carded for a two footed tackle on Steven Whittaker.

Lee McCulloch was fortunate to remain on the field after elbowing Scott Brown on the head.  In a carbon copy of the incident which ended Beram Kayal’s season in December, McCulloch went to ground after the incident until attended by a physio, which perhaps tempered the referee’s response.  Clever, if predictable.

With things clearly not going their way Celtic then lost an offside goal.  Celtic had an opportunity to make an attempt on goal when they won a free kick 28 yards out.  With Charlie Mulgrew still running into position Scott Brown played a quick pass to Kris Commons but Celtic players were crowded out by a number of opponents and lost possession.  Rangers broke forward and applied pressure which brought the best out of Fraser Forster but Andrew Little put Rangers two ahead from what was clearly an offside position.

A further breakaway on the 77th minute resulted in Lee Wallace putting Rangers three goals ahead.

Despite being two goals down substitute Kris Commons started to dictate play and brought Celtic their best period of possession.  In the 89th minute Georgios Samaras broke through the Rangers defence but was scythed to the ground by Bocanegra.  The referee awarded a penalty and ordered the Rangers player off.  Scott Brown scored the penalty

Moments later Commons got the better of Whittaker on Celtic’s left before being brought down by the Rangers player.  Commons found Thomas Rogne with the resultant free kick which the defender powered home.

I know. Irony is, the same feckers making our lives miserable here will be the ones most likely to do their best to stop us leaving.

Can you imagine the headlines elsewhere in Europe, they have it in their heads that there is something odd happening in Scotland, financial doping, structural bias from refs, local media supporting one team and telling lies constantly…………..then when they are under scrutiny…..they send two off, have five fouls for Celtic ignored, send the Celtic manager to a darkened dungeon.

Time to rip the rot out of the system or close the whole shop down…….rfcia full of dignity !

Calming down now and glad to be a member of the Celtic family.

    Party time coming up soon.

    Hail Hail

  3. A few points about today in general and in no particular order….

All the nonsense last week about Cammy Bell and his miracles, that today from big FF was a goalkeeping prefermance.Get this guy signed up now, if we miss out on him he will eventually be a top class keeper and im mean TOP.Some of his saves today were worldclass, and not straight at him, he deserved to be a winner today.

I posted last night that strathcyldes finest had decided last week it would be better if we lost today and murray was only to happy to oblige.Disgraceful preformance from him today, as expected, i lost count of the blatant ‘mistakes’ he made, that all favoured the huns.Shocking.

Cha’s….red card wrong, it should have been a yellow to wallace for diving.

Sammy…constantly fouled with absoluetly no protection given. The clear foul’s just before HT were particularly bad, again with no FK given.Im sure these 2 instances would have been what Neil asked murray about at HT, and rightly so.

whitaker…pulls Izzy’s jersey, laws of the game a booking.Murray decides not to apply the laws of the game for which he is paid £850 for.

Vic…2 footed tackle i have no complaints with the red but whitaker goes over the top with a straight leg showing the studs.Could have been a straight red but was defo a yellow, which should have been his 2nd.Does murray consult his linesman at any point..no.

Goian….pulls back Sammy at the corner flag, with us down to 9 men and Sammy going into the box with 4 huns, murray plays ADVANTAGE!!.What advantage? give the FK and let us fill the box with the big men. When ball goes out of play murray ‘forgets’ to book goian.

Elbows….elbow straight red no questions. Not even booked.

Stokes….2 yards onside the linesman wrongly flags offside.

2nd goal offside. The same linesman keeps his flag down.

Bocanegra….As last man chopped Sammy down.Murray takes nearly 20secs to produce the red card, constantly talking to linesman before doing so.Did he take his time before red carding Cha or Vic, did he consult his linesman before making such big decisions.Answers on a postcard please.

Injury time 4mins…during this We score and bring on Hooper. He blew for fulltime on 93.58 he didn’t even play the 4mins.Were we getting to close Mr Murray.

I didn’t expect to win today, i knew we would be allowed. For the huns to only win 3-2 is an absolute embarassment for them, it shows how bad they really are.

    Stupid Hurting Huns!!

  4. Fairly good assessment of the game Paul67.

I said on the last thread that this was Rangers last ‘meaningful’ game of the season. Possibly ‘Big’ game is the better word for it as for them, other than delaying our title party and beating their ancient enemy in front of their own ‘peepul’ – it had no meaning.

I am not feeling my usual level of ‘hurt’ after a defeat by them – because ultimately it is meaningless. It would have had massive meaning had we won, but we didn’t and therefore the game lost it’s meaning. They don’t even have a european place to fight for – they won’t be allowed. If they finish second or third it makes little difference.

Pride was a motivator and may have been satisfied for them but again, other than a bit of a ‘feel good factor’ this next few days when they reflect (are they capable of that?) they will realise that this was a hollow victory. Not only did it come against 9 men but they very nearly blew it. And not only that but they have no promise of this being a stepping stone to better things. The context outside of this match is nothing but doom and gloom if you are a blue nose. (OK they have the Queens Jubilee to celebrate and hopefully they will have contributed some tax toward paying for it or do the decent thing and not turn up for the celebrations!)

So when your Orcish workmates try to slag you about the game congratulate them on beating an injury ravaged 9 man Celtic and ask them what positions they think their team should strengthen in to build on this – ask them if they have any players in mind and how much it will cost to build a new squad. Ask them where they will be able to get 2 or three decent and proven goal scorers for starters.

Chins up fholks. It really isn’t that bad.

  5. Nine-man Celtic are denied the Scottish Premier League title at Ibrox as 10-man Rangers claim a stunning 3-2 victory.

From BBC, stunning 3-2 victory? Stunning 5-0 victory but 3-2, one goal in it against 9 men? Also put in the ten men to make things look even, despite the card coming in the 90th minute? The media.

  6. Fortunes Favour Mibbes on 25 March, 2012 at 18:44

    That is so true.

McCoist, to me has been prepped in how to act, the amount of times he mentioned “Old Firm” in interviews was excessive to say the least.

They are stinkin and their sincerity is mirrored by their exposed actions over the last 2 decades and much longer than that.

They are liars and deceivers, that is what they will do even more so now just to keep their cheating institution alive. They will have no problem plumbing new depths. They are sickening, and none more so than today.

The party is over for Rangers.

The party is just getting started for the Celts.

  7. Jelly And Gelato on

Don’t want to repeat what’s already been said already on here but aside from all the hype, this was probably the most meaningless Rangers Celtic fixture played in the last 10 years. (For us anyway) No point in getting too upset about the result.

    Aluko’s goal: well taken goal.

Cha’s Red Card: It was either no foul or a red card IMO. Marginal contact that Wallace made the most of it but if he was fouled then it was a clear goalscoring opportunity. He would have got a shot off before the covering defenders would have arrived in my opinion.

Their 2nd goal was offside. Barely a mention of it’s validity at all on the Sky.

Wanyama’s red was harsh, but it was a clumsy challenge. Poor decision given that Neil would have been hammering home at half time, the need to maintain composure. However, unlucky to receive a straight red, despite the ref drawing it faster than Cool Hand Luke.

Their 3rd goal had me beeling! Reffing aside this was the most disappointing aspect of the game for me. Why would we, playing with 9 men near the end of a game, NOT opt for a set piece situation and float it from just outside the box. Instead Brown plays a quick pass to somebody who’s not ready for it and can do nothing with it. The team are all out of position, and half in position for the set piece. The quick pass quickly turns into a defensive movement of the ball under pressure and we lose possession in the centre circle. A goal lost not only from an attacking position but from more importantly from a catastrophically poor decision from Scott Brown.

Apart from that he had a decent game ;-)

Penalty and Bocanegra red card. Straight forward. Don’t see how some folks on here see it as an evening up exercise, it was as clear a pen as you’ll get, and another clear goal-scoring opportunity. The only doubt in my mind was which defender would walk, since Sami was sandwiched between 2 players. (That may have caused the ref to delay the decision)

Great goal Rogne. Good delivery from Commons (I think) , good strong attacking header.

Lennon spoke very well after the game. I hope something comes of his complaint about the way he was handled but think they’ll close ranks while they still have ranks to close.

I think that Steven Craven will eventually blow the whole thing wide open. I cannot see it being left in the state that it was.

Although I admit to concern about Phil praising up Mister Fleming

Today possibly the huns cheated just by the nature of the payment towards players that took the pitch. Hey it might still be a 0.3 win for Celtic in the record books.

All these things will come out in the was once a verdict is reached.

And upon that verdict being reached I fully expect Celtic plc to engage with some good lawyers.

  12. Elbows – when are the media pundits going to call this cowardly thug for what he is?

    ‘Predictable’ as Paul puts it.

Watching the replay of the incident Provan half remarks that ELbows was lucky to get away with it.

I also noticed his Modus operandi apart from the rolling in agony pretending he got hurt too and asking the physio to put a tissue up to his head to make it look good, is to go up with the elbow as close to the body as possible before impact with opponent.

Sammi gave him a dull one shortly before elbows elbowed Brown but Sammi went for the full body check – a lot less sneaky, a whole lot more honest and much less dangerous to your opponent.

I hope he is ‘reviewed’ for this and previous thuggery taken in to account.

Like Alan Shearer he gets away with it because he is an ‘establishment’ man.

I am now thinking of several bad words which I would like to call him. Use your imaginations…….

The officials were crap. He should be be demoted. Cha sending off was Collum like. The worst decision was the tackle on Sammi, Then to send off Neil. I cant put into words my feelings on this blog or it will get removed.

  21. long haired yins man on

Hi Paul67, great site but on this occasion can you please change the subject thread…we can still discuss the topic under a different heading?

  22. Neil Lennon has hit out at Calum Murray for sending him from the dug-out at half time.

The Celtic boss spoke to the referee at half time in the players tunnel before briefing his players in the away dressing room for the second period.

As Lennon made his way back to the dug-out Murray told him that he was banned forcing the hoops boss to watch the second half from the media room.

Explaining what happened at the break the hoops boss said: “I didn’t think it was a sending off (Cha’s red card), not sure that Wallace would ever get to the ball and we had cover. The contact is minimal, I was pretty upset by that decision and pretty upset by some other decisions that went on in the first half.

“I got a warning from the fourth official which was fine. I had, for me, a quiet word in the tunnel with the referee and thought nothing of it.

“I didn’t swear, I just put my point across and that was it. I came out of the dressing room after doing my speech at half time to the players and got called in and told that I’m not going out.

“He (Murray) has deprived me of doing my job in the second half.

“I wanted to see him after the game, I was told to wait 20 minutes then I can go and see him. After 20 minutes he said no ‘I don’t want to see you’. So I had to send some of my staff out.”

Discussing the confrontation with Murray in more detail the Celtic boss said: “I was just critical of his first half performance, I never used any abusive language. I’ve spoke to the delegate, they say one thing I’ve got witnesses that say another.

“I need some answers and I’m not getting them at the minute.

“I’m entitled as a manager to speak to a referee. Who are they accoutable to? Are they just allowed to waltz through game criticism free?

“I put my point across, I didn’t point my finger, I waited for him, I spoke quietly to him up the tunnel and that was the end of it.

“I think as a manager I’m entitled to do that. My players are very very angry, they are very disappointed as well but I think that there’s an anger there more than anything else.

  26. If the safety of our manager cannot be guaranteed during the game in the event that he may be sent to the stand. Then surely the question must be asked how his safety is guaranteed whilst sitting in the dugout several feet away. Hopefully well never have to find the answer as the hell hole crumbles.

We really miss kayal for these games. But in anycase it was always gonni be a big ask with that ref on their side. I mean are Rankers players unbookable? The binman up to his old predictable tricks. Whittaker kicking and pulling at anything in green and white with impunity. Cha should never have been sent off and Big Vics was disgusting decision- whits fitba coming tae? Did anybody else notice whittakers boot left in? His manhandling of Ledley i think it was in the 2nd half was a stonewall penalty. Not a mutter from commentators per usual.
