Rangers destroyed by SFA

503

Huge result from the SFA Judicial Panel Tribunal tonight, absolutely enormous, perhaps the biggest decision ever made in Scottish football history.  Rangers have been banned from signing players over 18-years-old, for a period of 12 months and fined £160k.

For months Scottish football has lived under some huge moral questions; would the combined forces of TV contracts, the Bank of Scotland and the formidable Rangers lobby combine to subvert the meritocratic spirit of sport and see rules written to see Rangers kept afloat.

The SFA Judicial Panel Tribunal made these questions moot.  In the event that Rangers fail to agree a CVA with creditors and emerge as a Newco, and IF that Newco is allowed to inherit the SPL share given up by Rangers, the Newco will be unable to sign any players of 18 years or older.

Although the SPL and SFA are able to transfer Rangers league share to a Newco, player employment contracts are with the current company, so players would not be contracted to any new company.  An SPL Newco would need to compete with 16 and 17-year-olds.

Conversely, there is nothing to stop a new football club, Rangers United, for example, sharing Firhill and applying to the Scottish Football League, from signing players of any age.  A new football club like this would inherit no financial or football punishment from Rangers FC.  Anyone aspiring to fill the gap left by Rangers would do well to navigate their plans in this direction.

In fact, scrub that first sentence, this is the biggest decision ever made in Scottish football history, no perhaps about it.

  1. I know AweNaw normally does the lyrics thing…. but if I may be so bold…..

You don’t have to take this crap

You don’t have to sit back and relax

You can actually try changing it

I know we’ve always been taught to rely

    Upon those in authority –

But you never know until you try

How things just might be –

If we came together so strongly

Are you gonna try to make this work

Or spend your days down in the dirt

You see things can change –

Yes an’ walls can come tumbling down!

    Governments crack and systems fall

    ’cause unity is powerful –

Lights go out – walls come tumbling down!

  2. I was amazed by the news last night. Spotted it on Twitter very late on.

Does anyone else think that this decision was accelerated by UEFA? The Swiss FA ban 3 clubs and then this decision is announced at 10.30ish last night. Personally I don’t think the punishment is harsh enough. I think there is worse to come. If the EBT case is lost I fully expect the titles and honours won to be stripped. Take of those stars! Did anyone else notice that Cowdenbeath had 5 stars on their Champions T-shirts at the weekend? Why?

I still think Cowdenbeath could be the Zombie Rangers. Findlay is not a football man he is a bigot. Why is he there? The man is smarter than anyone who has been on the Rangers board at any time in their tainted history. Keep an eye on that one.

Kennedy may get the stadium after all when the auction begins some time soon. I can see more players heading for the exits or refusing to play before the season ends.

Celtic must get it right on Sunday and give this mob the final pasting they deserve. Don’t tinker with the line up. Play the team that can beat them soundly. Play like the Champions we are and give them a final beating they won’t forget. This is our last cup final and we can’t let them away with it.

All paraphrases, but you get the drift lol

  4. Woke up this morning on a bit of a downer…..then I opened up CQN,and I was reminded of the news.

    Hahahahahahaha!

    Downer……..GONE!

  5. i think the sfa are in a bit of bother here. this transfer cargo thing just looks like sour apples to me. it is going to blow up in their faces. i see the rangers fans are orgnaising to boycod sfa sponsors. the sponsors will phone that regan this morning and give him the wee nuckel rub and all will go away. the rangers wont be going anywhere and we will need to be careful as they will be right up for this on sunday. alisdair knows these games inside out and will be building a seej mentally within the club just now. i dont see much to smile about and we should concentrate on our own team rather than laffing at others i reckon as the rangers always have the last laugh

Well, £100,000 for a good night out would suggest that he is worth a few quid.

  8. The timing of the announcement late last night was … interesting. Could it be they felt that a 12h cooling off period to “sleep on it” before the pubs opened would be a good thing?

Rangers summer tour is now expected to include a day at Alton Towers.

Haha … Classic .. Though some of the rides have a height restriction.

I was at the Arbroath v Cowdenbeath game recently. The Cowdenbeath fans repertoire included some very Celtic sounding ditties. I liked their fans (that day anyway). They seemed much more like Us than Them.

The blue Brazil have a place in most Scottish football fans hearts but why is Findlay there?

Why did they have five stars on their champions T-shirts?

Something doesn’t look right to me. I always go with my first instinct. If their fans appear to lean our way then we may get some new supporters if Cowdenbeath do become some sort of Frankenstein Rangers.

I suspect that there will be no Rangers at all next season. Time is very much against them at this moment. Does anyone else think they may stay in administration for a few years? Seems the best option right now.

  19. Are the fans of all SPL clubs not entitled to cash for spending to watch a taited league. The Huns should be made to pay season ticket cash for the seasons they cheated

  20. Big punishments for the huns. Is this the first time they have been investigated by an independent body? Says something, doesn’t it?

And that is all for transgressions in the last year. What might happen wheb a similar panel looks back over the last decade or so?

    ++++++

    It’s their 5th league title?

There are rules regarding the purchase of a club from a ‘higher’ league then moving them. Of course, there’s absolutely nothing to prevent Findlay (if he has the means) from purchasing Iboak then moving Cowdenbeath FC to Glasgow and renaming the club to Sons of William FC or similar. :-(

From der orkenkind’s perspective, I think that would be an option with strong possibilities.

It would have the added bonus of them being allowed to keep their five stars

  27. So Rangers’ way of striking back at the SFA is to hit the sponsors.

First 2 targets? William Hill and Carling.

So they seriously expect anyone to believe that the ovular dregs of humanity that waddle around in their XXXXL shirts and make up the bulk of their herd will no longer bet or drink lager?

  28. What is red, white and blue and goes around at 100 miles an hour?

    Rangers in a liquidiser!

But this is not so…this is a slow, dance of the seven veils, type of death.

There is more of this to come before Drs Duff and Phelps admit it was a mission impossible!
