Rangers director on stripping of their titles

292

I continually read misleading interpretations about the alleged second contracts at Rangers.  Rangers may, and almost certainly did, insist at the First Tier Tribunal that the letters in question were not contracts.  This point is important to the tax authorities but completely irrelevant to the football authorities.

The SPL specifically:

“Impose a prohibition on players receiving payments for playing football or participating in an activity connected with football except where such payments are made in accordance with a form of contract approved by the SPL and require that all such contracts are submitted to the SPL within 14 days of being entered into”.

The SFA require:

“All payments, whether made by the club or otherwise, which are to be made to a player solely relating to his playing activities must be fully recorded within the relevant written agreement with the player prior to submission to this Association and/or the recognised football body of which his club is in membership.”

So, for clarity, side arrangements do not have to be part of a contract before they become subject to SFA and SPL regulations, but “payments… connected with football” or payments received by a player “solely relating to his playing activities must be fully recorded”, otherwise the player has been improperly registered and his team would be awarded a 3-0 defeat for each game he played.

The Sun’s landmark story on this issue claim’s one Rangers player was due £1200 appearance money per game, clearly “connected with football”.

In point 14 of his statement today, concerning Rangers being stripped of their disputed titles, Dave King said, “I am absolutely confident (now that I have a good sense of the true position) that this will not happen”.

The “true position” will be established by SPL inquiry.  If they have all letters  issued to players of the kind produced by The Sun, or given as evidence to the First Tier Tribunal, Rangers have no case to answer, but we have to wonder, if this is the case, why the inquiry?

I note the swift and robust defence issued by Sir David Murray against allegations levelled by former college Dave King.  I also note the swift and robust defence issued by Sir David Murray against allegations levelled by former college Hugh Adam of side-contracts being issued to players.

Wait a minute, Sir David hasn’t uttered a word about Hugh Adam’s allegations!

I would like to be the first to congratulate St Johnstone on winning the League Cup in season 1999-2000.

Has anyone, anywhere, to date, [publicly] asked any former Rangers player whether they had a side/second contract? Surely if just ONE came forward then this is all the evidence we need?

Further, would any such player be himself subject to legal proceedings and/or football authority investigations?

I don’t know. As bizarre and irrelevant as it was, some of Duff and Phelps recent efforts have been just as bad.

  7. As I understand it as of today the First Tier Tribunal decision is still being written?

If this is the case then surely the person or persons writing up the decision—unless of course they have moved to the Planet Zork—must be noting the goings on at Ibrox.

There are more dodgy characters coming and going than visiting day at that other big house Barlinnie.

Must be difficult for Lord Glennie or whoever it is to remain objective with all of the revelations and accusations of illegal and unethical practices.

Might the final decision of the FTT refer the findings to the COPFS?

  8. That St Mirren statement is pure sophistry…a classic case of circuitious thinking…what they call in rhetoric a tautology…maybe there is some vacuous truth in there for those who care to analyse…

If the SPL “botch” the inquiry into 2 contracts and flagrant breach of league rules, it will be left to others to present the facts.

This strikes me as a serious warning.

    Ron Bacardi,

It’s not entirely clear when the relegated team ceases to be a member of the SPL. The Rules only say that it doesn’t require the consent of the board, it just happens.

As it’s effectively a transfer of a Share from the relegated club to the one promoted it could be assumed that the switch takes place as soon as the season ends.

    ——————————————————————————————–

maybe a couple of weeks grace to wind things up and allow time for any possible appeals about rules being broken?

    ——————————————————————————————–

just a thought would the SPL share stay with relegated team until the promoted team is confirmed that it has met the SPL rules regarding memebership – all seater stadium, undersoil heating etc.

then switcheroo happens when conditions met or no relegation occurs ??

  28. hi paul . dont you feel we should be taking this rangers ( ia ) scenario out of this country now . All these administration delays are for only one reason to aid rangers f.c . I feel it is now time to let the rest of the uk know what is actually going on up here . Like many others i watched the stage managed show last night with mclean and scotlands no 1 brown nose traynor . A programme again designed to make a case for rangers fc . The severity of the crime is not being reported here in this country , all that matters is rangers survive , and rangers get back into the spl unpunished , and that rangers dont lose their alleged tainted titles . It is unbelievable that an outfit with so many alleged accusations pending have so many well wishers. Paul we have on this site ,and indeed other celtic sites , some very clever guys who know about the implications of alleged tax avoidance, about the alleged use of EBT,s . and guys who can convey the unfolding story very very well indeed our own JAMES FORREST being the one who springs to mind , why dont we involve the english broadsheet media , who dont give a hoot about scotlands establishment club , but may just be interested that a football club may not be paying their tax and could get off scot free or without too much hardship .. Would it be wrong of me to ask why we the celtic support are sitting here giving all the time in the world to the friends of rangers to look for solutions and excuses to aid them, because in my mind that is what is happening from the administrators to the media to scottish footballs HQ . We are not going to see justice being done up here . Will we ever hear the full and honest outcome from the BIG enquiry . Will judgement be without fear or favour , cant see it myself . But in our midst we have guys who can carry the true account of whats been going on up here over the years to the. eyes and ears of the rest of the UK and beyond . We have fan bases all over the world . There are newspapers out there not governed by the laptop loyal . I dont know about the rest of you but i am scunnered letting the friends of the gers control the agenda .

  29. Just a query – on March 2nd, Duff and Duffer said they needed to save “approx” £4.5 million to survive until the end of the season.

Given that the biggest outlay at Ibrokes, aside “from that stash under the bed that the taxman doesn’t need to know about” is player wages, which continue to accrue daily, and that precious little of these have been ‘slashed’ so far during the ‘savage cuts’ (can’t imagine Wylde and Cellik being particularly high earners), and that the season ends on May 12th, does this mean that they still need to save £4.5million 6 days later?

Given this, and the media’s calculation that this meant “just over £1million per month”, should we now be revising that as them needing to save £1.8million per month (which is “just under” £2million per month) to survive till the end of the season??

Pedantic, perhaps, but let’s just remember that every day that passes, the ice-cream gets tastier and the jelly even wobblier. :-)
