Rangers improper player registration evidence mounts

1152

More evidence emerged today on how Rangers recompensed players through their Employee Benefit Trust (EBT) scheme in The Sun newspaper, who have a draft contract Rangers offered an unnamed player.  The contract was a letter confirming a six figure payment as well as a £1200 per game appearance bonus.

An accountant told Sun reporters Paul Thornton and Ewing Grahame:

“I have been shown a contract of employment showing how much money players were going to get but also a back letter which I presume that individual has assumed is part of his salary. It seems like a contract.

“If the two documents are handed to someone together, is that seen as being his overall package? If the answer to that is yes then there is a problem because the money that goes into the trust really should be getting taxed because it is his salary.

“The fact it is there as a back letter at all suggests it is dodgy.”

Attention is obviously drawn to the potential criminal consequences of these tax arrangements but football fans throughout the country will be alarmed that Campbell Ogilvie, the man who was general secretary and director of Rangers when the EBT scheme started, is currently president of the SFA and would have been involved in scoping out the secret remit of the SFA inquiry into Rangers, which was asked to report within an incredibly quick two week period.  Ogilvie is also one of the few men the inquiry will report to.

If the allegations in today’s Sun are accurate, Rangers have improperly registered football players for a period of around a decade.  The penalty for playing an improperly registered footballer in any game is a 3-0 forfeit.

When the SFA president is in a position to confirm all of this, the association have all information they require to make a ruling on this, but despite these allegations being widely reported for many months, they have yet to even acknowledge there is anything to investigate.

Can you imagine the scrutiny the Football Association in England’s board and chief executive would be exposed to if this scandal was not being actioned?

Butcher giving them positive news story for tomorrow… Joke.. Compare to the effort against us last season , granted we were mince but we all know they re not trying..

  3. I was just sick in my mouth!! Are Rankers a subsidiary of Sky? An on-going Rankers love fest – no mention of player contracts, potential cheating et etc. Just Ally ‘I won’t walk’ and the most successful team in world domestic football a British institution.

  5. All those presently flogging themselves watching the Huns and listening to hear what songs they are singing, get a life, broaden your horizons and brighten your dull Sunday afternoon switch channels and watch arsenal v spurs and try watching a wee bit of football for a change

Ps welcome back to yesterday’s day trippers

Funny how the chance to win some trophies can add 10000 to the crowd

  6. Its so clear now with every passing day that Rangers and the SFA have brought the game in Scotland to its Knees. Rangers for obvious reasons and the SFA for at best not doing their job properly or as its beginning to look, that they have been compliant in all this Rangers mess. Someone posted earlier ( sorry cant remember who) that if this was happening in England it would be a huge story with everybody and their granny all over it. What happens up here ? A closed doors investigation. I think its time all the other clubs not just Celtic demanded a showdown meeting with the SFA. The worrying thing in all this is that if the SFA have had their grubby hands all over this and EUFA get involved , innocent clubs who have been working within their means may just find that they will be banned from europe and the International team too. Time to get the kid gloves off

    As BRT&H,

May have hinter recently, throughout the implementation of questionable

fiscal and financial irregularities, they had one PF the most

Prominent legal minds in Scotland, surely he would not have advised

    Anything reprehensible?

  8. Italiabhoy, I posted the same sentiment, they truly are scum.

There is no way the offensive behaviour bill could ever prosecute against the use of the word “Huns” to describe them, it is exactly what they are, Huns.

As I said on a recent podcast, I will stop calling them Huns, when they stop behaving like Huns.

Philbhoy, I put a coupon yesterday for the first time in months, spurs, Liverpool and manure.

Maybe get a game at end of March?

I’m actually hoing we win the League AFTER ipox……..I genuinely feear for he’s safety in /around the stadium, and in the West /South West of Scotland, during, and after, the game…….some of their fans are truly EVIL, and are just waiting for the ‘opportunity’ …They know they are finished…and, seriously, decent people all over Scotland need to very careful…

I am beginning to believe that use of the word Association is a byword for corruption, be it in football, boxing, horse racing or athletics. And not just in sport either. Closer to home recent convictions have shown the SPFA to be little more than a corrupt organisation. Not the players this time, no The Scottish Pelagic Fisherman’s Association, whose members systematically organised what has been described as the largest ever scandal in the UK fishing industry. Members of this Association, acting in concert, and in a masonic fashion, motivated by greed and personal aggrandisement, with the complicity of Government agencies, systematically put Scottish fishing stocks at risk through illegal fishing, deceipt and outright criminality. The value of their crime could total £100 million, and involved, at least half of the Scottish mackerel and herring fleet active throughout the years the crimes were being committed.

I think it is a reasonable position, a priori, to accept that corruption exists at the SFA, the only questions to be answered, as with the SPFA, is for how long and for how many.

  14. It was reported that Duff & Phelps had visited Murray and had left with documentation showing a payment to Martin Bain to an offshore account?.

Would Duff & Phelps have any jurisdiction over any payments or cash transactions outwith RFC accounts?

Why would Murray hand over any documentation not relating to RFC to administrators of RFC?

It was reported in one of the chip wrappers this morning that baldy Bain was paid 400K by S(FN)DM at time the Whyte knight bought the Huns for a mythical £1 plus season book money. It’s reported that the payment was a bonus for selling the club. Sounds like this could be what Paul67 was riddling himself about.
