Rangers Newco cause picked up by media

1266

The Daily Record today report: “Record Sport understands Rangers would fight tooth and nail against any move to impose more than the statutory 10-point penalty” in the event “the Ibrox side have to start again under a new name”, presumably if the existing company ceases to exist.

If the Record are, in fact, reporting Rangers’ position accurately, this is the first salvo in their campaign to gain control of the consequences of a corporate failure.

The Record go on to say: “Clubs who can’t exit administration by a CVA must hand over their assets to a new entity and after shares [in the SPL]are transferred to a new company agreement has to be reached with the SPL over a return to the top flight”.

The glaring observations from this aspiration is, of course, that agreement does not have to be reached with the SPL over a return to the top flight, and that clubs who cannot exit administration by a CVA (Creditors Voluntary Agreement) must dispose of their assets to the benefit of the unsecured creditors.

The debate is framed by the newspaper to suggest a range of outcomes of between 10-25 points is possible for Rangers Newco FC to pick-up the SPL shares and league position of the existing Rangers FC, with a 25 point deduction being wholly unpalatable to the new company.

There must be absolutely no presumption that a newly formed company, who happen to own Ibrox, are entitled to parachute into the SPL ahead of the current Scottish Football League members, or ahead of an existing SPL team in a relegation spot.  In the event of a club failure the league can and, if necessary, must complete the season with 11 teams only.

Scottish football cannot establish a system whereby an oligopoly can vote on a system which stiffs creditors and prejudices competitors outside of the oligopoly.  Football across the world is trying to clean up its reputation, we cannot allow Scotland to become a laughing stock.  Let your club know your feelings on how they should vote when the time comes. It’s time for fans of Celtic, Aberdeen, Dundee United, St Mirren, Hibernian, Motherwell, Dunfermline and others to make their voices heard.

the huns about to go bust and we’re fighting, name-calling and digging up old grievances about the g.o.d. any chance of enjoying them going down among fellow tims without fights breaking out all over the place? any chance of getting at least a bit of enjoyment on a friday afternoon out of it all?

  2. How would people feel if it was announced that NewCo would fulfill Rangers fixtures this season starting from 0 points but would automatically be relegated to a new SPL2 next season regardless of finishing position this season?

It’s not really what I’d favour but I’m trying to see some ground between keeping them in SPL and NewCo starting from the bottom. Gives the impression that justice has been done if nothing else.

Thanks for that mate, and you are correct, and I withdraw the remark.

I am angry though that some of our fans are willing it seems to accept that as if it’s a done deal. If the stitch-up has been done then what is left for us to do but decide our response?

I do not believe Celtic will simply fall in line with this decision. I absolutely believe our club will fight it tooth and nail, but to do it right they are going to need our support and they may even need us to lead the way and get our opinion out there ahead of them.

I am dismayed when I read people meekly accepting this. This is a do-or-die moment, not only for Celtic but for the game in Scotland.

We MUST be resolute and strong.

Britain’s first £1 million footballer had an awful haircut, and was called Trevor.

Possibly. However Brian Clough maintained that the fee was £999,999 because he didn’t want the pressure of being the first £1m player hanging over him!

  10. How does this 11/12 votes thing work if Rangers are liquidated? Would that would mean there is no 12th team as surely a non-operational no-existent club would not get a vote? Would that mean only one club would be needed to veto this nonsense and ensure the required 11 votes couldn’t be reached? If that was the case, I would expect that one club to be ours.

JF – decades of being browbeaten and cheated with little or no attempt to hide the cheating can do that to a person.

The timing of the appointment of Vincent Lunny is interesting.

  14. As a 50-something lifetime supporter, I have to say that if RFC get away with a simple points deduction and readmission to the SPL with Celtic’s connivance then like many that’s enough for me to throw the hat in. Both my own, and our corporate seats would be terminated immediately.

The people will have been defrauded of almost £50 million in tax revenues, and while many institutions and individuals are guilty of this, never will it have been perpetrated with such shameless affrontery.

Why anyone thinks we need RFC is a mystery to me; if we need RFC to get 60,000 through the gate then I’d rather be one of 15,000 and not have to endure another minute of their detestable existence. Other clubs would hopefully benefit by increased support from those RFC fans who are genuinely interested in football then Scottish football would be a much healthier place than at present.

  18. cody, the vote required is a 90% majority, the number of votes is not stipulated.

Whether 11 or 12 get to vote there would till need to be two objections to avoid the 90% holding the day.

However could there be a vote of 10 Clubs for the reinstatement of 2 Clubs at the one time if Hearts have still not paid the wages that were due on 16th October, as SSN were reporting earlier? Guess what, 9 from 10 is still 90%!

I stand by it in every way. Some of the stuff you’ve posted here over the years has been indefensible and I don’t consider you a “worthy adversary” in any way, shape or form. I don’t consider you at all. Your opinion matters to me not one bit.

I’m not going to discuss this matter again. As far as I’m concerned you’re not here. I suggest you assume a similar stance and ignore me.

  23. BOAST – for every five celtic spend, we will spend 10.

Rangers philosophy was based on pure greed and drove a model in Scottish football which has brought many clubs on the brink of administration/bankruptcy today.

Rangers have bought titles and glory with money they simply didnt have – THEY MUST BE PUNISHED PER THE RULES OF SFA and UEFA.

I recall the dark days when Celtic were struggling to find a buyer – NO ONE! NO ONE! was speaking of helping celtic let alone offer any sympathy – none whatsoever!!

IN FACT – When Fergus stepped in to save the club HE WAS RIDICULED in the media (remember the turnip).

IN FACT – When Rangers were spending taxpayers money Celtic were accused of biscuit tin mentality

IN FACT – Most of scottish football was jealous of our new stadium and financial security

Rangers have got themselves into this mess , the punishement must fit the crime.

All this nonsense about the death of Scottish football is smokescreen – Rangers will be back , just like Juve. In the menatime , clubs like hearts, hibs, aberdeen etc.. would get stronger with the extra euro money.

    BOAST THEN BEG!

St Louis Cardinals beat Texas Rangers in game 6 of the World Series to tie the series 3-3 and force game 7 tonight.

In a remarkable comeback the Cards were 2 down with 2 out in both the 9th and 10th innings.

Home town boy Freese hit the 11th innings winner for St Louis with a dead centre home run.

The drama resumes tonight on BQN at 8PM EST 1AM CP time.
