Rangers, streetwalkers of football, face their deadline

778

There’s something undignified at the shenanigans at Ibrox right now.  Despite being under no pressure to pay the disputed tax demand, Rangers are tarting around their top player in a desperate attempt to raise money.

After the Plus Stock Exchange suspended dealing in their shares the club stated it would produce overdue accounts for season 2010-11 around the end of this month, which coincides with the end of the transfer window.  Any auditor needs to be in a position to state that the company has enough cash to be considered a going concern before he would be in a position to sign-off the accounts.  Rangers are now in a desperate bid for cash as their self-imposed (late) date to provide shareholders with statutory information has arrived.

Claims were made that a front-loaded war-chest was made available to Ex-Rangers manager, Ally McCoist (still too early?  Hmmmm) at the start of the season and it was subsequently suggested that a £9m bid was rejected for Nikica Jelavic, but now the same player is available for a fraction of that sum – available for cash, that is.

McCoist kept their season alive but as reality dawn and Neil Lennon’s Celtic turned up the heat, his challenge abated.

The trusty old media, for so long a crutch throughout Rangers rather unique history, are set to desert the White Star Line’s most famous vessel.  The day draws near.

  1. It must be a memorable day right enough as there’s something important I forgot to mention.

A beautiful warm and sunny start to the day in old EK.

Hi Ho **whistling down the road**

    Jobo

  2. Meanwhile, over at The Sun, Derek Mcgregor peddles the following made up gash:

RUSSIAN giants Zenit St Petersburg and CSKA Moscow are in a dramatic duel for Celtic striker Gary Hooper.

And a third Russian club, Lokomotiv Moscow, wants his strike buddy Anthony Stokes.

SunSport can reveal the Parkhead hitmen have shot to the top of the wanted list in cash-rich Russia.

Hooper has been closely monitored by Zenit and CSKA, who are both prepared to bid £7million for the on-fire hitman.

They don’t have to rush to complete the deal today because the Russian transfer window doesn’t close until February 24.

But a megabucks bid is sure to tempt Hoops chief Peter Lawwell, who shelled out just £2.5m for the 16-goal hitman 18 months ago.

Celtic rejected two recent bids — the higher believed to be £5m — from Championship side Southampton.

However, both Zenit and CSKA can table bids far in excess of Saints’ top offer, with wealthy Zenit owned by Russia’s biggest company Gazprom.

CSKA, who were also linked with Rangers ace Nikica Jelavic, could easily give Hooper a massive hike in wages at a time when the SPL leaders have been slow to respond to his stated willingness to sign an improved new long-term contract.

Hooper’s current deal is well below those of Celtic’s highest earners, including Scott Brown and Joe Ledley.

But his strike rate since joining from Scunthorpe is superb — bagging 32 goals from 48 league starts.

That alerted Zenit and CSKA, who have been impressed by the success of Aiden McGeady at Spartak Moscow since he left Celtic in August 2010, in a £10m move.

Stokes, meanwhile, has caught the eye of Lokomotiv after firing 17 goals this season.

They are ready to stump up £3m for the Irish ace. That would represent good business for Celtic, who bought Stokes for £1m from Hibs in August 2010.

But the Russians could face competition from MLS side Kansas City, who are also keen on the striker.

  3. good morning and a hoopy day to one and all of the Celtic family

As expected, no breaking news. Just a shifting of posiition by the DR so they can say they were the ones to tell the poor bears. They will claim exclusives all week now that have been on the web for months. I wonder if Phil will get any credit? RTC? No, it was all Jim Traynor and Hugh Keevins that uncovered the truth.

Totally agree DR new strategy in Tabloid sales war, it will be out turn next!! it is still and always will be a lying tabloid rag

    Rankers continue

I smell a very odious rat about all of this.

Why is there no fire sale at ipox?

They are going to liquidate all these debts then come back with a clean slate?

We know the huns are revolting but why are they not revolting?

This is far too premeditated and contrived.

  8. Ten Men – Absolutely and that’s the Scottish Sun’s lead sports story. Crisis? What crisis? It’s the poor Tims that are struggling, it’s the poor Tims who won’t pay their strikers a decent wage. They can’t turn down a mega bid of buttons. from the glorious oligarchs.

    100% made-up drivel.

  9. not sure if i am still dreaming!

all the rumours of the huns going into administration just to exist and on Irish tv sinn fein on talking about the very real possibility of a united Ireland through political means!!!!

If it is a dream don’t dare wake me up

  10. Traynor suggests the debt could be close to £100 million.

    We must fight fire,with fire.

  18. twists n turns on

Mick, we’ll start with a more restrained post:

“I have tried and tried to give Craig Whyte the benefit of the doubt, the fact he denied doing this and now looks like its true, why would the record take the risk it wasnt if not?, the whole BBC stuff, the numerous court cases, we coud go on and on

As a fan for almost 40 years, this morning i feel like we have been shafted by our own club and we are left with a chancer who now owns us

And lets not forget, the story is hding the fact that our top player is going to another club today and we are unlikely to see a replacement”

    What a mess

  19. I’m disappointed the DR haven’t put up the back page story on their web site………why would it be for Scottish consumption only?
