A little cooler this morning after a very pleasant verdant weekend in the Chilterns…
Great performance and result yesterday at Ibrox. Really pleased with the lhads. Physically matched them and always looked to have too much quality.
Compare and contrast Eduardo’s sublime goal and Morelosses devine miss.
Not sure what Rangers tactics were, what I’ve seen of them this season, they peppered the box with crosses. Whether a change of tactics or Travenier was subdued we seen little of that – through the middle legs gone Defoe and later Misser II, found our defence too strong.
Our forwards have been superb this season but it was a strong midfield and defensive display that got us the points at Ibrox.
It was a huge blow for them
It was a huge week for Lenny, and the AIK and Rangers games have set us up nicely for the Season both domestically and in Europe.

Had a big smile on my coupon all day. A few kiwis and expats congratulated me on our win but how could they know how I was ecstatic thinking about how dominant we were yesterday. All of the new bhoys were christened in the heat of the fire and performed magnificently. The old heads lead by example, Broonie, Calmac, Jamesie who put in a shift even if he didn’t score, Johnny Hayes took his moment well. Eddy was unplayable and Neil Francis Lennon made exactly the right moves this time to read the game perfectly. They didn’t lay a glove on us in their own midden. Now the hard work of grinding out the three points every game begins. In out niar year every game is a cup final. Keep this pace up and the buns will crumble just like their dome. Enjoy this time Tim’s, lets all do the huddle . Glasgow is green and white. Hail Hail

SFtB’s @ 31ST AUGUST 2019 3:12 PM,
“It certainly was great for business with our fans. Who knows how long theirs would put up with it? But it was always going to change to become more competitive and, outside of our most paranoid thoughts, it is not an indicator that we have “allowed” them to become better.
The new club spent 4 years getting 3 promotions to make it into the SPFL. Even though they were packed with internationalists and players stolen from other clubs (they could not have afforded them if they had not dumped their debts) they were still not SPFL standard when they first arrived in the top division. We got to play with them for a bit and enjoyed the humpings . They came up in 2016/17 and have now had 3 seasons to become battle hardened to SPFL standards. They still have a 50k home crowd to fund better buys than our previous rivals (Aberdeen and Hearts) could manage with their lower income so it was inevitable that they would become relevant again.
They actually beat us on pens in a semi whilst still a Championship club and they won two of the fixtures last year. A GoD does not guarantee that you will win every game, it does not guarantee that you get to hunskelp every time.
So what precisely was your point? I answered your conclusion because, as I explained in my post, I found Paul67’s two statements quite understandable and quite factual. It is the conclusion that there is collusion to get Sevco competitive that I find interesting and controversial, and, I think, I am still allowed to respond to the things I find interesting as you are quite capable of dealing with what you find “interesting”.
Did you believe that Sevco have been irrevocably confined to an irrelevant position in Scottish football? I certainly did not. And if you did not believe that, why do you need to invent collusion as the means to have made them relevant?
Those of us who saw what Larsson & Brattback did in 1997/98 know that a so-called “weaker” team, one that has become accustomed to losing, can make the breakthrough and overtake a seemingly invincible squad. The 97/98 process can happen to us and it could have happened already but it hasn’t. We can waste our lives in fear of them doing this to us, and sharpening our pitchforks and oiling our lamps for the subsequent witch-hunt, or we can enjoy what we have been given by this generation of players and what they have yet to give.
That’s a choice every one of us faces.”
I’m not at all sure my view was, they wouldn’t get better, pretty sure it was the opposite, that they would improve. The main reason for the arguement of building on success in June 2018 after that magnificient double treble was to improve in Europe and achieve UCL qualufication.
As I’ve stated many a time, that would ensure we were better than Rangers… they could improve all they wanted but they’d still have to mind the gap.
We went in a different direction in the summer of 2018 and have continued in the same vein in the proceeding transfer windows.
This scaling back has also happened in our managerial, coaching and recruitment staff and we have seen the consequences.
I stated some while back my expectations had been managed and it was what it was and I’d be backing the team and that’s what I do.
So what precisely was your point?
Well my point was this, the hubristic tone that Paul67 was espousing a couple of seasons ago has recently been replaced by an altogether more pragmatic tone. I invited CQNers to make up their own minds about this, not putting words in other peoples mouths as you have a tendency to do.
I said nothing of collusion in this regard, in fact the only time that I’ve noticed that charge against Celtic was in relation to the SFA, SPL and certain Clubs, colluding to ensure that the punihhment for industrial scale cheating was minimised and contained and that Rangers be facilitated in it’s resurrection.
That’s my problem with the GoD confusion, the original tongue in cheek gibe, re our “supremacy” over the original Rangers was, to my mind at least, funny and a craic. Not so funny regards Sevco Rangers, for many of us after the ice cream had melted and the jelly gone moldy there was a bitterness to our just desserts.
No collusion highlighted in terms of competition on the field. More cat & mouse.
CQN had a rare guest poster on for the lead article (January I think) where a financial whizz explained how we could keep ahead of Rangers by the fact we can always outgun them financially. It they are coming close, as they may do this season (it will depends on consistency as well as the results of the old firm derbies) we can re-assess and power away in January.
My “Point” is this, “old firm think” should be nowhere near our Club’s strategy, it’s risky and has already seen us getting ejected from the UCL.
We should be aiming to consolidate and build on a consistent squad to be the best we can be, a good third tier UCL side.
That wasn’t to be, so I can live with that, this unambitious, risk averse board are not going to put me off supporting the Club I’ve always loved.
Days like yesterday will always give us huge joy… that’s what being a Celt is really all about.
