Wisely put, I think that’s what Brendan was alluding to before the game ” the variables”

    ————————————————–

I think so mate. There are comments on here for Brendan to speak up about the MIBs and I totally understand that – it gets frustrating. However, I’m sure he’s made a calculation – hence his circumspect approach in that regard. He’s not daft.

Anyway – it’s nearly time for my 10am single malt. This will be a 15 year old rather than 12 year old going forward…. :-)))

Well done to Brendan and the Bhoys for yesterdays hard fought victory. I thought our three frenchmen were great but apart from poor Boyata there were no failures in the hoops. It was the type of match that kept you on the edge of your seat we have the makings of a very good Celtic side that not only will compete in Scotland but also in Europe if we can keep Brendan and them together. I thought the huns tried hard but they had to after all it was there midden but over all Celtic were a class or two above them so now its on to the semi final. H.H.

I think Brendan is a clever guy, he says the things in an understated way but it’s clear what he’s talking about.

The jackets approach why effective in certain situations is not his style and he has a style that’s for sure, he exudes professionalism and chooses his words very carefully.

When he was talking about the red yesterday he said ” I can see why Willie has given it” which is not the same as saying aye it’s a red.

    That’s clever, I like that:))

Going forward BR will be enjoying his cheeky wee Beaujolais over lunch capped with a Single Malt at the end of the day!

Brendan has to be cute all right to operate in these circumstances and deal with the associated ‘variables’.

Seems to be working – first time since the start of the 20th Century we’ve had 4 straight wins at AyeBrokes someone mentioned?

  8. Brogan Rogan Trevino and Hogan on

    Good Morning again all.

Yesterday showed that even when not playing at our best as a team there is great reolve within that squad and that there are indiviuals who can change a game in a few moments.

Rogic’s strike, Moussa’s goal and pass to Odson, and the big man’s winner were all small tiny moments in the game but huge great game changing moments.

Bain’s saves and surety were inspiring, though I am always wary of a keeper having one great game. When a goalkeeper is consistent and top quality he becomes something that gets into the heads of forwards a La Buffon, Schmeichel or even the Holy Goalie.

Was Morales’ miss partly down to Bain’s earlier safe hands? Who knows?

However, what I really want to highlight was the performances of Scott Brown and Olivier Ntcham.

In the second half in particular Brown appeared to be just everywhere. Tough, fit (fitter than I have seen him in years), strong, decisive, intimidating, skillful, dominant and with great vision both defensively and going forward.

Olivier is a cut above all other midfielders in Scotland bar Brown and yesterday it showed. His range of passing, off the ball movement, strength, self belief, tackling, vision and ability to link the play was way better than anything shown by the opposition where Docherty & Co played as well as they could for 65 minutes and as well as they ever will against Celtic.

However, as time went on, the pressure of playing against the class and strength of Brown & Nthcam began to tell with passes going astray, decision making being poorer, energy failing and effectiveness dropping.

When we lost to Hearts it was because the midfield was not strong enough. Yesterday our midfield with these two, McGregor and Big Tom further forward were very good.

I also like Kouassi who didn’t feature but the point is wee have a far better mid than any of our domestic challengers.

Had we not given them two goals then we had the ability to turn them over by a convincing score.

Now, they will have to regroup and re-emerge after a demoralising defeat. I don’t expect the internal mood at Ibrox to improve as we near the end of the season, and the semi final will be a big BIG game for them in every way as it may well be a do or die moment for many in the blue corner.

There will be plenty of pressure too as both Hibs and Aberdeen have a game in hand, and any slip could see both of those teams rise above them in the table leaving Hampden as a Hail Mary.

I didn’t notice the size of the pitch yesterday in terms of whether it had been narrowed as I expected, but Hampden is a big wide pitch which I think suits us more than them.

A lot can happen in the intervening four weeks both on and off the field of play but I don’t see this Rangers team being given anything like that opportunity again.

Last thing, there are only around 80 seats left for the 25th May Party – a potential treble winning party – so if you are interested in coming then get in touch ASAP.

Bog standard 15 Glenfiddich Solera. But I’ve not tried it before, and Neil and I do enjoy a pleasant rounding off of an evening.

  10. Carraggher , should be sacked from Sevsky, Spitting at a child,or any other person is despicable, just shows how some are brought up,just like them two chancers, who verbally abused Scott Sinclair, yesterday, seems these characters that have cash , think they can get away with anything, does anyone know the names of them two,as to let there company know about them .

Don’t know how anyone can question the sending off. That linesman is as honest as a Tory MP.

Now we know why the Scotland squad was delayed from last week. That’s why the Strong Rangers Association were so keen to get an RRM in. I reckon it might have been delayed until tomorrow if yesterday’s result had gone the other way!

Saw it mentioned that the SAF had to intervene on Saturday night. No idea if true. Be surprising, that would make them about two weeks late.

  14. I hope Brendan will recognise that Tierney and Forrest are tired. Pull them out the Scotland squad and give them 2 weeks holiday. Paddy Roberts is back and young Millar needs a few games. With the injuries getting cleared up we will have enough players

We could even play 3 at the back and ask Sinclair to play left wing back. it might just be the change he needs.

I would consider allowing a rest to our key players in rotation to ensure that we are not penalised by the short close season break. With the lead in the League we can afford to rest some players. 9 league games left we only need 6 wins(5 maybe due to goal difference).

We need our top team out against Sevco twice and hopefully the cup final. That leaves 8 league games where we can get Ralston, Armstrong, Boyata, Commper, Kouassi Roberts and Griffiths back to match fitness.

Are you sure clubs are permitted to vary the dimensions of their pitch mid-season?

I have it in mind that such has bee forbidden for a number of seasons (or is it only in Europe), whereby teams have to register their pitches dimensions prior to the start of each season …

I think it was Souness tweaking the pitch in a Euro tie which brought that ruling into place. Not sure it applies in Scottish games, and certainly not to the huns.

  18. BMCW

Yeah, I think I remember the game Souness pulled that stunt: I think it was against Dynamo Kiev in the late 80s, when Kiev had a marvellous attacking side, including a certain Andrei Kanchelskis …

  19. GlassTwoThirdsFull on

Not sure if you can change the size of the pitch in Scottish football, but you can definitely move the goalposts…..

  20. Who is under most pressure in the semi final?

The team looking to take the penultimate step to a double triple, as well as make it 10 games undefeated against newco?

    Or

The team trying to prevent above double triple and put their horrendous record v the 10 in a row, double treble elects?

It’s not only the actual football side of the game they’re struggling with. Every passing game they fail to win v us is adding to the psychological torment.

    Long may it continue.

  21. twists n turns

Absolutely, the psychological weight of the looming Semi Final will be rather heavy for the Sevco players. Their fans are raging after yesterday and what they saw their players “bottling it”. They will demand better in the semi, thus they have made it a win or bust game. This will be their greatest inhibitor in a month’s time.

It’s a funny logic – you witness your team struggle to cope with pressure…so you apply more pressure…

  22. Big Eck’s obviously not intending hanging around as Scotland manager very long. First squad announced and it the return of the comedy duo of Grant Hanley and Russell Martin.

The “altercation” in the BA Lounge intrigues me.

When the Chelsea Neanderthals racially abused a black guy in the Paris metro a couple of years ago, much was done to bring the perpetrators to court and expose them publicly for what they were.

Will there be any similar efforts in Glasgow? – and if not, why not?
