Rate card for Kent violence suggests 4 game ban

232

Alfredo Morelos apologised to Newco fans for his red card on Sunday.  The incident, which marked the troubled striker as the player sent off more times in a single season than anyone in the history of European football, may yet do him good.  The Mea Culpa moment and the weeks suspended from action will provide an opportunity to the player to get some help.

You and me have previously discussed how clever you need to be to be a footballer these days.  Now, it is not all about having brains in your feet, as it was in Charlie Nicholas’ days.  Footballers need to make hundreds of decisions in line with tactical plans each game.  They also need emotional intelligence to make the most of their talent.  Managers will only invest time in players who cannot learn for so long.  Gordon Strachan’s limit was telling a player something three times, after that, he moved on.

Of immediate concern is what the SFA Review Panel will do to Ryan Kent, Newco’s best player on Sunday, who delivered an upper cut to Scott Brown in the aftermath of James Forrest’s winning goal.  Punching off the ball is rare in the game.  Bilel Mohsni’s punch on Motherwell’s Lee Erwin in 2015 resulted in an additional three-match ban for “excessive misconduct” on top of a one game ban for the red card, and another three for totting up.  Kent is 22-years-old, a guiding ban at this stage of a fruitless season would not be the worst thing for the player.  The rate card indicates he should spend four games contemplating his violence.

    All roads point towards Lennon.

I’m not convinced. He has certainly been lucky as apposed to good. I feel he has been given full reign since the Aberdeen draw at home. And as much as we have recorded some victories, we haven’t put in a good 90mins performance across these games. In fact our overall level of play has deteriorated in all matches since the Aberdeen game. Individuals such as Edouard, Forrest, Ajer have managed to see us over the line.

But it shouldn’t hide the fact, we aren’t playing well. Far from it. Not one for If’s, buts, and maybe’s… but a pragmatic / realistic judgement on things. Sevco could and nearly did get something from the 2nd half. With 10 men, and at our home ground. Not confidence inspiring really is it ?

The appointment of Lennon, suits the club. And will be typical of us. A period of further cost-cutting, money making, with little priority on the first team.

The ethos should be the opposite. Increased investment, and full throttle towards 10 i.a.r

Shouldn’t they drug test the players.. cocaine is meant to cause the fans’ aggression after all ..so why have there been no drug tests in Scottish football for approx. 5 years?

    ——————————————————————————————————

Agreed. I’m no expert but some players now regularly display levels of aggression seldom seen since poor Gascoigne.

but I was actually thinking of SLO …. Halliday appeared to be listening to their supporters, and seemed to care what they thought …. it would be a nice change to have someone like that at Celtic.

Mike, if those are the benchmarks, I could do it. I’d listen and I’d care and I’d be a lot cheaper than Brendan or Neil.

  14. Sevco manager has “nuttin” to say about Kent, as he was magnificent , the best player on the pitch, another Morelos in the making made in Liverpool.

  15. Ryan Kent would never have scored on Sunday if Boyata wasnt already feeling a strain on his hamstring

It’s obvious watching watching back he wasnt moving freely at that point and couldnt get across to make the challenge

Criticism of him is unfair as he played on and ended up making it worse

It’s a little sad that it might be the last time we see him in a Celtic jersey imo

Ac cording to the bbc – the kent was a ‘shove’ and a ‘hitting out’!

  18. Some years ago Police arrested Duncan Ferguson for a common assault on John McStay during a football match. He appeared in court, was found guilty and served time in the Bar-L.

On Sunday Ryan Kent performed a common assault on Scott Brown in front of match officials, police officers and 60,000 witneses.

The match officials, all four on the field and the supervisor in the stand, either did not see anything or took no action, Why did the Police not arrest Kent? If he did that in the street he would have been huckled and in court on Monday. Maybe they were too busy photographing the Green Brigade.?

Looks like Kent will get 2-4 match ban. Precedent dictates he should get the cell

big Duncan occupied in the Bar-L. Why no such action was taken on Sunday is a puzzle.

That two nil game ( auld and Murdoch ) at Celtic Park a guy from Belfast now deceased raised a tricolour, got caught and fined.Remember another game at home, again auld and Murdoch scoring, but the holy goalie making a couple mistakes.Remember the song by Des ? Careless Hands and the huns getting some mileage from that particular chart hit, teasing John Fallon.

  21. I firmly believe that with the same backing Roland was promised… Neil Lennon will be a better ‘football’ manager than the one who ran away after conning us all that he was a Celtic mhan.

Too many are sucked in by the snarling, angry image portrayed in the media and some seem to have short memories of what Neil had to put up with in his first spell with us. Not to mention his attitude in coming in and steadying the ship when all seemed pear-shaped after Roland’s departure.

Neil Lennon is a football man and a born winner. He’s passionate and he knows the game, having played it at the highest level. He’s also a very intelligent, articulate man. Much more than he is given credit for. He will also have learned from his mentor, Martin O’Neil, who in turn learned from one of the best in Cloughie – on a par with Ferguson and 2nd only to Jock Stein in my eyes.

Looking back to the players Lenny signed in his first spell… I give you… Forster, izzy, van dijk, mulgrew, lustig, wanyama, ledley, kayal, commons, hooper, stokes…

That’s almost a full team and I don’t think any of those players ever let us down. On the contrary many of them were top performers and one of them went on to, currently, be the touted as the best defender in the world.

He also signed – Wilson, ambrose, Matthews, Bitton, Rogic and Griffiths!! Not a bad bench.

He also inherited Broony \o/, gave Forrest his first game and got the best from Sammy. Once again… I don’t think any of those players ever let us down. My mind boggles that almost everyone thought Mulgrew was finished… Much like Broony \o/ 2 seasons ago… He was unfairly treated once the claws were in. He is still playing regularly at a higher level than the spl, scoring goals from defence/midfield and creating assists. One of the finest dead ball players I’ve seen. I’m only using him as an example, to explain that sometimes as fans I think we are far too quick to judge and want rid of players. Many would have had Broony \o/ (I can’t type his name without doing that ??) wee Jamsie Oor Cal, Oor Ryan all shifted on by now!!

I remember being at a game not long after Virgil van Dijk signed… An old boy sitting a few seats along said… “look at that big prima dona, he thinks he’s better than he is!!”

He was no prima dona, he was just head and shoulders above everyone on the park.

Signed when Neil Lennon was the manager…. Just think about that.

The point of this post is I am fed up reading the negative posts on here. We get enough of that from the msm, in fact, there are a few posters on here I’m convinced do have agendas and they often set the tone. One good thing is I’m learning who to scroll by.

It’s Neil LENNON for manager for me, ably assisted by JFK who seems to be being schooled to be a natural successor when Neil moves on. John Kennedy, like Neil when I first started to listen to him talking, is another who goes up in my estimation every time I hear him speak.

I’ve never known a better time to be a Celtic fan. If you can’t be happy with what we are doing, achieving and planning in this moment in time – you will probably never be a happy Celtic supporter.

  25. I must have missed the best player on the pitch that was kent, from what I say he did nothing first half, had a decent second half after celtic switched off and scored an all to simple goal. best player on the pitch was clearly eduard, ajer then brown. Eddie was very good before getting tired after first half.

They had a good 15 minutes we controlled the majority of the game, just like aberdeen and a host of other spl clubs have had a good 15 minute spells against us too.

3 points was won on sunday and 3 points are up for grabs tomorrow night, lets get the job done bhoys. 3 more wins then get the fringe players into the team.

Would love oxo-flex, dembele, achison and a few more given a run out before end of season.
