I was asked a cracking question last night: ‘Everyone knows Rangers went into administration on 14 February 2012, but do you know what date they came out of administration?’
Can anyone guess? This is the material Cognitive Dissonance is made of.
Duff and Phelps did an incredible job. Had they stuck to Whyte’s plan, put a fait accompli to the SPL, with a matter of days to decide, ‘Our Hero’ would still own the ground, the club and would still be exalted by those who initially crowned him ‘Our Hero’, before the term became a weapon of irony.
We got a further glimpse into the goings-on at Cardiff before popular and successful manager, Malky Mackay, was sacked. Chief exec, Simon Lim, while commenting on the £30m loss the club made last season, as a Championship club, spoke of the signing of 20-year-old striker Andreas Cornelius for £7.5m, from Copenhagen, with a £45k per week, 5 year contract, somewhat more than the £6k he was previously coping with in Denmark.
Earlier this month Malky said, “What I said at the time still stands. £7.5m was our record transfer at the time but a hit-the-ground-running centre-forward in the Premier League costs two or three times that and every team in the Premier League are striving for someone like that.”
There you have it, £7.5m is not enough to buy a hit-the-ground-running centre-forward, you’ll need two or three times that! In England, reality really is a different country (this is not me getting involved in the referendum debate, before the nationalists start trolling me again).
English football is broken in ways it is increasingly difficult to fathom. Only the persistent annual losses and ballooning debt figures offer a glimpse into what the future may hold.
Our namesakes, Belfast Celtic, withdrew from league football shortly after their players were attacked by a mob following the final whistle at game against Linfield on Boxing Day 1948. Star man, Jimmy Jones, died yesterday. The then 20-year-old was thrown over a wall and out of the stadium, breaking his leg in the process.
That was the end for Belfast Celtic but Jimmy recovered and is the Irish League’s all-time top goalscorer.

Ryecatcher I think you’re spot on there. Lenny has learned well on the job but the problem is PL and he has a shelf life like cassidy and brown before him. The absentee landlord has a few buffers before the buck stops with him. Answer this question if nl team has brought in 78m pounds due to cl qualification in oast two years as well as sales of our best players do you think the plc has backed him fully? PL will want a manager he can control and I dont blame lenny for not speaking out but hes getting all the flack and PL is getting the plaudits for the balance sheet. It will be interesting to see what the crowd is today, imo evey empty seat not paid for one opportunity lost for revenue . Lennys cl exploits have masked the underachievement of the board and if he hadnt punched above our weight this underachievement would ve laid bare and wouldn’t make comfortable reading for those on the board.

It certainly does and it did while i was googlin what the hell it meant!
Subs …..is OConnell a defender ?
PF AYR
Sounds as though Neil is learning from his mistakes.
Mulgrew can’t be fit – no sign of him on sub bench.
Griffiths easily the worst player on the park v Aberdeen. Let’s hope he shows us something different today.
Looks like 4-3-1-2, with a midfield of Brown, Biton and Johansen. Please, Neil, let Brown play on the right, not DM. Commons behind Stokes and Griffiths.
I’m not optimistic about that team – hope I’m wrong, and it is only St Johnstone.
If CQN had been around on 8th May 1998,I sense there would have been a different feel to the blog just prior to a league match v St. Johnstone.
Do we have a better team on the park now than we had that day?
Man for man, probably no……and our team that day wasn’t particularly brilliant.
Btw,just to set the record straight.

Exactly my thoughts
Pfayr….
O’Connell is a street…….defended heroically against the forces of the Crown.
Maybe it’s on the song sheet rather than the subs bench?

My condolences to Tom and his brother Gerry at having to part at this difficult time. I know you will both have cherished the time you had.

Griffiths …easily the worst player ….really
Some stiff competition for that mantle …..I gave pass marks to Izzy, VVD ( just) , FF, Johansen( 2nd half) …..beyond that dross …..
Griffiths wasn’t very good…easily the worst …not for me
Off to CP to enjoy more glorious exposure to the Glasgow Celtic.
I expect a tough game from St. Johnstone but 3 more points.
Good luck to us all.
Big Yin Milan,
I remember Miku had a great game against Barca. A settled Sammi far more effective and Lustig a much missed player was fit. Plan B Paddy was on the bench along with Mcgeough. Both gone. I don’t think Wilson is being missed much to be honest. The turnover of players is akin to a pound shop. Cashing in while the players are hot and the reputations are high. That’s why WGS left also. No chance of building a team just a bank balance.
HH
I’ll excuse Griffiths’ performance last week.
First day in the job,and a few men short.
Dermot Desmond= An Irish Mike Ashley
Small difference is he doesn’t attend AGM and invests less of his profits in his football team.
Peter Lawell= Uncle Tom
The difference is ermmmmmm…….none.
I really like that team selection.
No, I hate it.
Lenny’s got it right.
Lenny’s screwed up again.
Cue the expert hindsight managers this afternoon. Can’t wait to read.
COYBIG.

Safe journey, glad you got back in time, it’s hard saying goodbye to your brother.
