Reality is a different country

1769

I was asked a cracking question last night: ‘Everyone knows Rangers went into administration on 14 February 2012, but do you know what date they came out of administration?’

Can anyone guess? This is the material Cognitive Dissonance is made of.

Duff and Phelps did an incredible job. Had they stuck to Whyte’s plan, put a fait accompli to the SPL, with a matter of days to decide, ‘Our Hero’ would still own the ground, the club and would still be exalted by those who initially crowned him ‘Our Hero’, before the term became a weapon of irony.

We got a further glimpse into the goings-on at Cardiff before popular and successful manager, Malky Mackay, was sacked.  Chief exec, Simon Lim, while commenting on the £30m loss the club made last season, as a Championship club, spoke of the signing of 20-year-old striker Andreas Cornelius for £7.5m, from Copenhagen, with a £45k per week, 5 year contract, somewhat more than the £6k he was previously coping with in Denmark.

Earlier this month Malky said, “What I said at the time still stands. £7.5m was our record transfer at the time but a hit-the-ground-running centre-forward in the Premier League costs two or three times that and every team in the Premier League are striving for someone like that.”

There you have it, £7.5m is not enough to buy a hit-the-ground-running centre-forward, you’ll need two or three times that! In England, reality really is a different country (this is not me getting involved in the referendum debate, before the nationalists start trolling me again).

English football is broken in ways it is increasingly difficult to fathom. Only the persistent annual losses and ballooning debt figures offer a glimpse into what the future may hold.

Our namesakes, Belfast Celtic, withdrew from league football shortly after their players were attacked by a mob following the final whistle at game against Linfield on Boxing Day 1948. Star man, Jimmy Jones, died yesterday. The then 20-year-old was thrown over a wall and out of the stadium, breaking his leg in the process.

That was the end for Belfast Celtic but Jimmy recovered and is the Irish League’s all-time top goalscorer.

What you say is undoubtedly true but perhaps you should ask yourself why the previous manager was unable to be succesful even although he had these players at his disposal?

Granted that KoK was injured !

  3. When I was headhunted to bring my unique blend of insight, charm and wit to this blog, I agreed on the condition that Paul, Phil, BRTH and colleagues delivered on their promise that Rangers would go burst every year.

They duly delivered the first time.

But what have they done since then?

It is now after close of business on the second anniversary of their original demise and where is administration 2?

    I want my money back.

Sorry. All credit to brth too.

The feedback I’ve read from canamalar and auldheid contrasts the view that the board are against res 12.

  12. Kitalba, sorry for not being able to answer earlier. Had to go to work. Anyway… As I recall, a Celtic spokesman gave some quotes about the treatment which Neil Lennon received at Hampden. However, I don’t think that the spokesman condemned Aberdeen supporters per se. Eddieincarmichael might be correct in saying that it was not an official statement. Perhaps I was hallucinating at the time and the quotes don’t actually exist! Anyway, apologies if I am mistaken in some regard but I do believe that somebody was quoted.

Somebody else mentioned this season’s disastrous Euro form. Such a ‘disaster’ would have been very much desired in the days when we were being knocked out of preliminary rounds of the UEFA cup.

Will making Celtic weaker financially stop the corruption in Scottish football? IMO, it will only embolden the SFA etc and make the corruption worse.

Right big decision to make guys, as I finished in 3rd in last weeks quiz, when I was a little tipsy, so do I buy a box of wine or stick to a single bottle?

  19. Just caught up with some back reading there……………

..perused the Pat Nevin story – a great yarn.

Well done to BRTH and Winning Captains in bringing that story in – that’s a real coup for this Dear Green Place.

As to the content of the story itself while our Bhoys do the business the boul’ Pat does himself few favours. In my opinion he fails to apologise for the upset caused to so many, fails to explain convincingly, in my opinion, how the travesty transpired and fails to grasp the glaringly obvious issue at hand.

Pat’s early posturing as a socially aware campaigner and the antithesis of the Football-Player-Type with his cap’n’trendy trench-coat are now confirmed as fatuous – he reveals himself to be neither as bright or as savvy as he would have had everyone believe.

However the furore caused by this grotesque ever-present BBC issue could have been Pat’s saviour, had he used the apparent gusto with which he had laudably addressed the issue of racism in Football……

Why did Pat-The-Campaigner not turn the spotlight on Auntie and make more / anything of this within the meeja – did he even try? Isn’t the issue of Anti-Irish racism worthy of Pat’s attention?

Pat had the golden opportunity to highlight the insidious nature of Scotland’s racist shame, he also could have made a huge issue of his being sidelined ” for whatever reason”……………but he didn’t.

I don’t know the man, have never met him, and only know him from what I see and hear. On the evidence of the featured story, I think the credibility and gravitas he craves will continue to allude Pat. He is not a hate figure – more to be pitied I fear.

I have no intention to look further into the story concerning his family – that’s his own business.

I cannot fathom his losing the Faith in Celtic and turning from the Light, again that’s one for his conscious alone………….

Again, congratulations to the CQN team for getting this story a further airing. That is as much as we can do, more power to ye guys!

Pat, as a Support, the Celtic could forgive you, but you’d need to apologise first. I hope you find salvation soon.

    Hi Paul,

I can’t answer the 8 million dollar question, or should that be the £140m question, but I did hear a sevcovian confirm on radio recently that they had definitely “bounced back from liquidation”!
