‘Really robust offer’ euphemism

416

“Really robust offer” is apparently a euphemism for “Can’t believe they would pay that much”, following the transfer of Jeremie Frimpong to Bayer Leverkusen.  The player is still only 20, with several development years ahead, but I doubt any of us set his valuation in this bracket.

At times this season I referred to Jeremie as our MVP (after his demolition of Hibs in September) and lamented the lack of end product comparable to Kristofer Ajer, when the adaptable central defender plays right back.

The failure to get crosses into the box by full backs on both wings, at the level Kris can apparently achieve, has been one of Celtic’s critical failures this season.  Come what may in the summer, we would have attempted to recruit an improvement, with or without Jeremie, who remains more potential than actual.

There is a major rebuilding job ahead, but with only the Scottish Cup a practical target this season, Neil Lennon is unlikely to see much of the reported £11.5m (before Man City’s cut) this week.

Good luck to you, Jeremie.

Loved the way we whipped the ball around last night.

  1. Immediate thoughts are mixed.

Peter Lawwell did so much good work and put on us an excellent financial footing a few years back.

The last 18 months have seen a huge regression in footballing terms.

I wonder if he regrets popping into the Hampden showers that day?

  2. ‘Retired’ the new term for ‘Mutually consented.’

Thank you Peter for the good years but not so much for the bad years. I’m glad to see you go but please take Bankier and the rest of the parasites with you.

Does this mean CQN articles will have more meaningful content in the future?

  3. As long as Celtic as an organisation are not frozen in the headlights until June. I have no confidence that the present Board can even spell succession planning.

  4. Our new CEO said this about the 2 Rugby Teams the SRU are in charge of:

Looking ahead, he says: “The big challenge for us is making sure we can keep winning, and to keep winning we need to make sure we fund our teams as effectively as we possibly can. Whilst we are growing our revenue, we believe we need to grow it even further to make sure Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh Rugby can be funded effectively.” The more things change the more they stay the same! por cierto.

OK great news.Do we crowdfund a bumper pay off or do we all sing that song from WIZARD OF OZ about the witch.

PS. huns going skint was nothing to do with PL……………………………..NOTHING.

  7. lets all do the huddle on

lawells biggest failure was not speaking up against the clear hun agenda within the powers of the game over the years and the pro hun refereeing which is very clearly on display on the pitch

    i say failure

but can you fail at something you dont attempt?

  8. Going for 10 in a row was always going to be a make or break for Peter. Appointing Neil and the subsequent failure rendered his position untenable.

Thanks for the good times over your tenure.

  9. FAVOURITE UNCLE on

He is responsible for all Group Commercial, Sponsorship, Media, Marketing & Brand, Events, Ticketing, Retail, Business Services, Corporate Affairs and the management of BT Murrayfield Stadium activity for Scottish Rugby.

So will he be picking colour of paint for the dressing rooms.

More importantly does he have a pair.

  10. lets all do the huddle on

will his pay off be linked to upcoming season ticket sales?

i suggest we all hold off renewing until 1st July

  11. Some of responses so far about a fellow Celtic supporter are disgraceful. If you’re pleased, then fine, but it does come across as jealousy, lets face it- you’re never going to get the job.

I give it 5 mins for the abuse on the next guy to start.

  12. Paul 67/ Smithers

Please accept my condolences at the news that your beloved will soon be gone from the club.

My thoughts are with you in the. tragic news that has broken today.

  13. The Leeds Tim 👌

Peter Lawwell could have left behind a great legacy at Celtic but his involvement in the 5WA and wilful misleading of the res12 guys will always be mentioned in the history books.

    See Blair, Tony – Iraq.

  14. I’m glad Lawell is leaving, not so sure this was planned I think the disastrous attempt on ten has expedited things. However the personal abuse is out of order in my opinion, no need for it and it doesn’t help us move forward. Let’s be happy that changes are coming but celebrating it like the death of thatcher is out of order.

  15. Peter Lawwell over the piece was a successful CEO of Celtic Football Club.

Whether keeping a failing manager in position this season was his decision or that of our major shareholder is a question that may never be answered.

I wish Peter a long and happy retirement.

Today’s announcement must not be the outcome of our January review.

The Club must communicate the outcome of the review into our manager’s job performance.

Lennon should be clearing his desk at Lennoxtown today. There’s simply no valid reason for keeping him.

  16. This site comes together when someone is in grief.

Can everyone please spare a thought and send your condolences to paul 67 at this tragic news for him.

  17. For all his faults and he had a few…. Lawwell was a celtic supporter…. His family are celtic supporters…… New man?… Not so sure… In fact very doubtful

  18. theBHOYfromU.N.C.L.E on

The new guy will have a huge smile on his face as he watches most of Ryan Christies efforts on goal.

  19. squire danaher on

All very well mutually consenting Lawwell but if new guy has same set of KPIs then it’s literally a case of Meet The New Boss, Same As The Old Boss.

Resolution 11-12, 5WA, Keep the Huns alive, ignore the cheating, OF-ism

    WontGetFooledAgain CSC

  20. Imo, nothing really changes unless our major shareholder indicates otherwise and that would be by having our manager leaving too. Peter Lawwell, at the end of the day, has had to put into practice what Dermot Desmond wanted. He call the shots.

im not jealous i dont have that job

it takes a particular type of person to be a CEO of a major PLC
